Hey FIMFiction, RBDash47 here with something a little different than my usual blogpost fare.
I was hoping I could impose upon your time to take a few moments and respond to a quick survey regarding your favorite episodes of the show about small candy-colored horses we all know and love.
EDIT (thanks Zontargs!): If you can't remember episodes by title, here's a list of them.

Dang, I had some trouble remembering some of those episodes just off of title. It's almost like there's too much pony (though such an assertion must be false).

You are correct; the poll isn't "what are you favorite episodes overall", it's "what are your favorite episodes of the following groups".
Also, you have good taste in episodes.

Why isn't there an M. A. Larson subcategory? He's the one who wrote my favorite episodes! (and my least favorites, but that's neither here nor there)

Have to say, though, some of those choices were hard! "Winter Wrap-up" vs. "Sisterhooves Social"? "Hearth's Warming Eve" vs. "Putting Your Hoof Down" vs. "Wonderbolts Academy"? Eek.

You can't put Party of One and Lesson Zero in the same category, it just isn't done! They both would have won their categories if they were separate. That, and where the heck is Luna Eclipsed?! It's the best episode and it is why Luna is best princess, the fantastic characters!
I'm curious about what you're trying to determine. The categories ended up giving a picture of episodes I liked that doesn't really match up with any of my actual preferences. . .

The reason behind the episode grouping is quite obvious, but for the love of Celestia I can't figure out the reason behind you posting such a survey.
Well, I hope you will share the results and explain the masterplan some day.
1. Horrible HORRIBLE voting system. First past the post is bad and you should feel bad.
2. Entries are not randomized. This will bias people in to picking the first.
3. No Sleepless in Ponyville. Best god damn episode.
4. Not divided for each season (edit: I may have misunderstood the reasoning for the grouping, please explain?).
5. Lacking links to rewatch the episodes, bias towards the most fresh episode in one's mind.
I could probably think of more...

1. I agree! I too have seen that vid. Luckily we're just doing a basic sampling of personal opinion, not electing leaders of the free world.
2. I can't find any way to randomize them in Google Forms.
3. "Sleepless in Ponyville" is obviously the best pone to pone pone, so there's no reason to include it in the poll; it would only confirm what everyone already knows. (But seriously, there's an actual reason it was omitted; it was't the only one omitted, either...)
4. There is an actual reason for the groupings, but I'm sitting on it for now. It does look like some people have figured it out, but if they do I hope they keep it to themselves. Mysteries are fun!
5. I really didn't expect people to want to rewatch 65 22-minute episodes before making a determination... it was just supposed to be, boom boom boom, answer answer answer, done.
I can kinda understand the episode groupings, and why some are missing. But you obviously struck a big one from the list, and I'm wondering if that's the point. Anyway, I left my vote. As a suggestion for future endeavors, a ranking (1-6) regarding how difficult it was to select an episode per grouping might be useful. I was surprised how fast and easy some selections were, while others I hemmed and hawed for a couple minutes.
Can't vote on such a crazy survey. If asking to list my top favs. sure. To list my favs. of those sets...I can't. Many of my favs. are on the same sets given. Good show bringing it to us though.

You aren't the only one to make a comment to me to that effect, about how some of them are nice and easy, some of them take a little deliberation. That would definitely be an interesting metadata point to collect.
Where are "Elements of Harmony" and "Mare in the Moon" AKA "Friendship is Magic" parts 1 and 2?
I couldn't find them on the poll in any of the sets.
Quick question: is it bad that I remembered all of them by episode title, which caused a flash of the episode in question to pass through my head in fast forward?

They, along with a few other episodes, are in a special category. The sets presented in the poll do not all add up to the full 65-episode run of the show.
That was a sick, twisted poll. The competition in some of those groups was ridiculous. Suited For Success, Winter Wrap-Up, and Party of One got my votes in their respective categories, but had to beat a bunch of my other favorites to do so. It hurt.
And I get why the groups were arranged the way they were, but I'm not sure what you're trying to figure out. If season bias exists, maybe? I'm interested in seeing the results, anyway. I'll try to spread the word and get some friends from other sites to vote.
That was missing a ton of episodes, including my favorite ones.

A few of them didn't appear, and a few of them were on the same lists, while some lists had no episodes that I would really consider "favorites." So I kind of looked at what was there at the end like, "Huh. That's not really what I like best at all."

Take a closer look at the writer of the episodes in each group. Of course I didn't check them all, but a selected few gave positive result.

About 1, It's all about setting an example, if we can't use proper voting systems, why would you expect anyone else to do so...
About 5, I don't even remember what exactly half those episodes were about. A quick peek would remind me.
But yes I'm taking my time to properly review the listed episodes
