I normally wait until an episode airs to post one of these, but I'm pretty certain that this is going to be the only detail relevant to my interests. Even so, if you wish to avoid spoilers, scroll past this or hit the back button.

RAINBOW DASH HAS A FRUCKING DAD!! LOOK HERE!!
I was certain that the writers would never elaborate on any more parents other than Twi's and Rarity's and Pinkie's and applejack's but this was unexpected. There's a possibility he might be an uncle or older brother or something but the age difference is staggering here, so it's safe to assume.
Anyway, it's relevant to me because my headcanon was that Rainbow had a single parent; the mother walked out on them when she was younger. This proves that she has at least some kind of family. As to why they didn't attend her contests and such, err...I'll get back to you on that.

I find it amusing that people are flipping out on this. As in, whoa, she has a father.
Yes. Most people do.
What I find more interesting is that mane color is apparently hereditary. Before this, pony coloration looked halfway random.
Whelp. There goes my "Rainbow was adopted by a nice griffon couple" fanon. You shall be missed.
Although, it'll probably also kill the "all Pegasi are taken from their parents at birth and raised communally because spartans" fanon, which I can see as anything but a plus. The new episode gives, and the new episode takes away.
Oh, good. I got tired of the whole "Rainbow Dash is a orphan" thing a while ago.
i am going to say this again my canon is that rainbow colored manes are rare and that Dash got hers because her mom got in an accident at the factory while she was pregnant with Dash. at least its canon that she has a dad that part i got right.
