    Story Promoting: Celestia Cannot Sleep

Hey, guys! Have I got a story for you!

Like a fic. Not like, a personal anecdote. That sort of story.

And it's not really my story, so obviously understanding "got" in its most colloquial sense. Well, the broad colloquial sense, not the common "Have I got a story for you" meaning that I'm about to tell you the story. What I'm actually going to do is link you to the story and--

    The Travels of A Hat

So I guess I am going to San Diego Comic Con in about 10 days? Just for Sunday (7/27), but still. Any thoughts/suggestions/must see events or people anyone would like to suggest? I've been too intimidated to even look at the programming because I've been told that the only way to get into any panel is to line up several hours in advance. I should really change that. Oh, and for that matter,

Summer and the Curse of Chapter 2

No, that's not the title of my new middle-grade novel (although maybe it should be, it's kind of a great title).

Self-Aggrandizing Blog Post #1 (of X) · 11:21pm Feb 7th, 2013

So, if you're reading this you're probably aware that a couple days ago I uploaded a story.

And, after that story has spent slightly over a day in the top slot of the featured box, I guess all that I can say is:

Although that's slightly less self-aware coming from a guy who never said "You like me" in a wry, witty way in a film.

It's been a really overwhelming couple of days. I've been kind of flabbergasted by the positive reaction, especially after I goofed and posted the story to the "Twilestia is Bestia" and "Twilight Sparkle" groups before it was actually live--which apparently meant that even though I got a lot of positive attention from those groups, fimfic's popularity algorithm didn't care. I went to bed pretty disappointed, thinking I'd goofed a perfectly good chance at INTERNET STARDOM, and then the following afternoon I went online and was top feature. It was all very O_O-inducing.

And now here I am with like, triple the number of followers I had two days ago, and a far higher percentage of them being people I did not already know.

I'm immensely grateful to everyone who liked/faved/commented on The Lessons of Eternity. It's a real honor to know that I wrote something that so many people enjoyed. As someone who has made "stuff" on the internet for... 8-ish years, this is the first thing I've made that's really taken off with a large group of people, and it's just an amazing feeling to have seen so many people say they liked the story, or that it touched them in some small way. There's a real advantage to being part of such a large community I guess.

The best part was the people who posted with their own analyses or interpretations of what went on in the story. I really liked to see the debate about the morality of Twilight and Celestia's actions--and especially to see points being made that I hadn't expressly meant to include in the story. Honestly, the first time I saw someone arguing their own ideas with my words I was like:

(Now, quick, how long do I have to wait before I can join Victims of Magnum Opus Dissonance?)

In all seriousness, if you liked Lessons of Eternity, I hope you'll consider checking out my other stuff, and sticking around for new projects and the occasional overly analytic blog post about ponies (and other things, sometimes). I don't write sad much by nature, but my long-running (slow-running?) fic In Search of Lost Friends (Who Aren't Actually Lost) is kind of a comedy about a sad idea: the fear of losing your friends to the flow of time. Of course, in actuality it's about how crazy that fear makes Twilight and the ensuing hijinks when she takes "make the most of the time you have" a little too literally. It's probably the most personal story I've written so far... which may explain why I'm having such a hard time getting myself to write the last two chapters.

Or, on the other hand, if you're interested in a over the top buddy-cop comedy with back-from-the-dead cops and robbers and which is heavily inspired by a short-lived 2010 love letter to old crime-fighting shows , then Good Cop, Ghost Cop is probably the only fic on the site that fits that criteria. Also it's reasonably likely to update in a reasonable length of time.

I'll be doing my best to follow up with exciting new stories, exciting new chapters of old stories, and exciting new... other... exciting... things!

And now that I have shilled on my own behalf I shall turn my newfound celebrity into a media empire activate the mind control chips take over the WORLD!

...Or maybe I'll just say "thank you."

(This has been a self-aggrandizing blog post. I'll try not to write too many of them.)

Must... suppress... urge to be hipster... I was following him before he was featured!

Seriously though, congrats on getting featured!

You mean the chips weren't already on? ... There goes THAT strategy for the courtroom.

Glad to hear you aren't a sad writer by nature... Because my feels are sensitive. I don't cry (much), but sad still makes me feel like shit. I empathize too well... I suppose I could take a look at your other stories.

You mean this wasn't meant to be taken that seriously? :twilightoops:
I AM DISAPPOINT!! :flutterrage:

806212 Which part? The part where I was grateful to people, or the part where I was talking about how cool I was?

Because, I mean, they were both completely serious... Especially the part about me being cool. <_< >_> Yes...

805984 By all means, hipster it up. I really appreciated your remarks on the series of analytic blog posts I wrote instead of my senior thesis.

806019 Please do. Take a look, I mean. If you want to, I mean. (why do we not have nervous/embarrassed/bashful Fluttershy as an emote?)

806301 Well if I were to tell you, it would ruin the surprise ... and suspense. :pinkiecrazy:

Oh, I forgot one thing--there was a idea for a line I cut from The Lessons of Eternity that I was sad about but just didn't fit in, regarding Shining and Cadence. It would have gone something like:

Twilight: Princess... do you ever wonder why we couldn't... make things work? Shining and Cadence did. They still seem happy together...

Celestia: Your brother and Princess Cadence have a significant advantage over us, Twilight. They're both slightly too stupid to fully appreciate each other's flaws. I'm sure Cadence's instant make-up button doesn't hurt either.

(I suppose that shows where my loyalties lie a bit but eh...)

Weeeeell... that Sally Fields's alright... buuuuut...
