Six months ago Aria Blaze took you away from your new girlfriend, Sonata Dusk when she killed you. You vowed that you would haunt her for the rest of her days whether she was punished or not. Aria however is tough and your attempts to make her life hell may not harm her, but the one you love.

The Verdict

View Online

The past six months had been tough on everyone. The trauma of seeing you killed in front of the whole student body by Aria had the school on edge, the city of Canterlot had been in a constant state of nervousness as Aria's murder trial progressed but the one most affected by your death was Sonata. The girl who was once one of the most cheerful and friendly girls at CHS had fallen into a deep depression and refused to interact with anyone except her sister, Adagio, fearing that her other overprotective sister would take someone she cared about as well.

Despite being dead, as a spirit you have been keeping an eye on things. During the day you watch over the court proceedings glaring at Aria and during the evenings you go home with Adagio and Sonata to keep an eye on the one you love. Despite her not knowing you are there and not being able to do anything when Adagio is unpleasant towards her, you remain there because you love Sonata.

Six months to the day after your death and after a rather speedy trial, the day had arrived where Aria would either be found guilty or innocent. You, along with many, many other people have gathered in the courtroom to see if the girl who killed you would be convicted. You look around and you see Sonata with a sad look on her face. You know she is full of despair because either way she will lose. If Aria is found guilty, she will lose her sister and if she is found not guilty, Aria will not be held accountable for your death.

You watch as the whole courtroom stands at attention as the judge enters the courtroom. Once he orders everyone to sit down he asks the jury if they have come to a decision and they say yes. You, along with everyone else watch in anticipation as the judge opens the envelope and begins to read it,

"In the case of Canterlot v. Aria Blaze, we the jury find the defendant guilty on the count of murder in the first degree."

Everyone in the courtroom is pleased with the results, with the exception of Aria, her lawyer and her sisters. You feel as though your death has been avenged but then you look at Sonata and see her begin to tear up and can't help but wonder what if? What if the jury had acquitted her? Would she be tearing up?

One thing you do not know though is that unlike it is in Whinnyapolis, the sentence is read along with the verdict to shorten trial times. You watch as the courtroom goes quiet as the judge continues,

"We the jury, have decided that since Aria is a minor AND psychiatrists have determined that she did this as an act of impulse, that her sentence will be five years of unsupervised probation."

After hearing this, the courtroom was almost completely quiet, save one individual. You look over to see Sonata in tears crying over how your death was not accounted for which only drew out a negative reaction from Adagio telling her to shut up. The next thing you notice is something you never saw before, a smile coming from Aria as she was uncuffed as the trial ended.

Sonata and her sisters left the courthouse and you followed them. You knew that things would likely get bad for who was your girlfriend and despite not being able to do anything, you wanted to be there for her.

As the three girls got into Adagio's car and pulled away from the courthouse, in the front seat Adagio and Aria were celebrating the sentence. One thing that really angered you was when they turned on some music and began to sing along with the song that was on the radio, "We are the Champions."

You were not the only one to be bothered by this though. Sonata was also bothered by this and very quickly began to cry in agony, "We are not the champions! My boyfriend's death was not accounted for." She took a deep breath before screaming, "And despite everyone watching you kill him and even being found guilty, you still don't have to go to......"

Adagio yelled, "Shut up Sonata."

Aria added, "Even in a victory like this, you are still the worst!"

You were appalled that they would talk to Sonata like that. The fact that they would be so mean to her angered you greatly and at that moment you decided that the time to make Aria's life a living hell had arrived.

As they pulled into their driveway Adagio and Aria got out of the car quickly and did a fist bump before Aria touched her fist, the same one she killed you with, to the side of Adagio's head. Adagio yelled, "Aria, what are trying to do?" Her yell turned into a laugh, "Are you going to kill me too?"

Aria laughed, "No Dagi," she then pointed at Sonata and continued, "But the worst one might be a different story."

The very fact that they would joke over your murder and refer to Sonata in a derogatory manner angered you further. While the two girls were celebrating and Sonata was slowly getting out of the car, you decided to go inside and set your plan in motion. Despite not knowing your way around their house, you found your way to Aria's room and began throwing everything off her shelves, including some collectibles that were breakable.

Once the three headed in Aria headed straight to her room only to discover that it was a complete mess and that some of her collectibles were broken. She screamed, "Dagi, Sonata, get your asses in here!"

Adagio showed up immediately while it took Sonata a bit longer, which immediately caused Aria to be suspicious. You watched in anger as Aria got up in Sonata's face and yelled, "Did you do this? Did you come in here and break my stuff?"

It was all you could do to not yell at Aria but knew you couldn't just make your presence known. Sonata cried, "No Aria. Why would I go into your room and do this?"

Sonata pointed her finger in her face and snapped, "To spite me. I know you're mad because I killed your little boyfriend." Sonata tried to reply but Aria continued her yell, "You should thank me Sonata. I did what any good sister would do." Her voice became more snide as she finished, "I killed a guy who would have taken advantage of you."

The fact that she would say this angered you beyond belief. You wanted so badly to make your presence known but you wanted to save your surprise appearance for Aria and Aria alone so you decided to wait. The atmosphere in the house that night was as you would expect, Adagio and Aria were in celebration mode while Sonata just sat quietly with her face buried in her hands. Once the time for bed arrived, you headed to Aria's room to unleash your wrath.

When Aria arrived to her room, she still had not cleaned up the mess you caused. You couldn't help but smile as she was grumbling angrily over what happened but it did bother you that despite her saying she didn't do it, Aria still believed Sonata did it and you were appalled as Aria began mumbling about how she would exact revenge by destroying some of Sonata's possessions.

Once she turned out the light and tried to get some rest, you walked over to the side of her bed and stood there with a frown on your face. You decided the time had come to make your presence known so you began to draw energy from the room to appear.

Aria woke up and began to shiver. She sat up and growled, "Damn it Dagi, you forget to turn the heat up or something?"

As she was getting ready to get up and turn the heat up, you appeared. You stood in front of her and growled, "So Aria, are you proud of yourself? Are you proud of crushing Sonata's heart?"

She looked up to see it was you. At first she believed she was just seeing things as she muttered, "Ugh, I think that trial really took a toll on me. I could have swore I just saw Sonata's dead boyfriend."

You grabbed a hold of her and snapped, "Aria, how the hell can you live with yourself. You killed a man AND you crushed your sister's heart."

You were shocked by what Aria would say next, "Oh, what'd you do loser, come back from the grave to scare me?" She gave you an evil smile and continued, "Well it won't work. I'm not scared of some ghost boy. Why don't you go bug Sonata instead?"

You grabbed a hold of her harder and gave her a warning things would get worse if she did not apologize to Sonata in front of the whole student body, which only caused her to laugh. After this you disappeared and watched in disgust as she grumbled about you being the worst before falling asleep.

When she woke up the following morning and joined her sisters for breakfast you were shocked. Your appearance before her, your grabbing of her and your warning didn't even have an effect on her. She was the same old Aria, she wasn't fazed even one bit. You realized that to frazzle her you would have to step things up.

Haunting Aria

Several days had passed and despite multiple night time appearances and not so pleasant warnings, Aria had yet to be affected by you. During her days she still behaved as she normally does, she never said a word about you and she still headed to bed every night with a level head on her shoulders without an ounce of fear as to whether you would show up and grab her or not. You realized that mere warnings at night would no longer suffice.

Another morning had arrived and just like clockwork, Aria was the first to arrive in the kitchen and pour herself a bowl of cereal. One thing you learned this day was that you didn't have to be visible to interact with people. You walked up behind Aria and whispered "murderer" into her ear. She turned around and asked, "Who's there?"

She turned back around and resumed fixing her breakfast. When she saw her sisters come in she realized that she simply could not tell them that she heard a voice whisper into her ear. You watched Aria eating her breakfast and other than that one initial reaction, she continued to behave as though nothing at all had happened. You realized that Aria is even tougher than she looks, you realized that simply whispering in her ear would not suffice. While you had no plans to truly harm her, you wanted to do something to actually scare her, something that would fracture that tough and fearless attitude of hers.

You walked around the house throughout the day just waiting for the right moment. You heard Aria talking about the three having pork chops for dinner and realized that you could use this to your advantage. Finally supper time had arrived and Aria was pulling the chops out of the oven. Since she cooked them, she got first choice and naturally took the biggest ones. When she went to reach for a knife to cut it with, you caused the container the knives were in to shake.

She had a stunned look on her face for a moment before her typical scowl returned. You thought for sure that would scare her but just like always, she was not even affected by it. You realized that different methods would have to be used, methods that may cause her sisters to know you are there and in the case of Sonata, know that you do still love her.

After supper that night the three sat down to watch TV and not much was on. While Sonata wanted to watch sappy teen romance shows, Adagio and Aria decided to turn it to VH1 Classic. Sonata seemed sad so you decided that not only would you try to spook Aria, but Adagio as well.

After ten minutes of them watching music videos, you set your plan in action. The TV started to get snowy which should not happen with the digital cable they had. Aria stormed up to the TV and smacked it, "Damn it, what the hell's going on?"

You caused the TV to fade to black before a very faint image of yourself appeared and you said, "Sonata, I love you. I'm here for you."

This caused Sonata's head to shoot up as she had not heard your voice since the day you were killed. She began to cry, "Is it you? Is it really you? I love you too!"

This not only affected Sonata but it caused Adagio to shriek in terror, "Aria, Sonata, do you see that? Did you hear that? Sonata's old boyfriend is in our TV!"

Aria looked at the TV and sure enough, there you were but she simply thought something was wrong with the TV and smacked it again. Finally you release your hold on it and much to your dismay, the video for "Another One Bites the Dust" was playing which only brought about a laugh from Aria, "Hey Sonata, it looks like your dead boyfriend is playing his swan song on TV!"

Much to your surprise it is not Sonata who yelled over her comment but Adagio, "Aria, you saw it and heard it just as much as we did!" She calmed down for a minute before nervously continuing, "Maybe he is here watching over Sonata since he still loves her."

You thought maybe this would make Aria stop and think but you were wrong. She yelled, "What? You're becoming as bad as Sonata." She glared at them both and sneered, "You know what, you're both the worst!"

Sonata broke down crying and Adagio got into a shouting match with her sister,

"Aria, you can't deny it now! I know it sounds crazy but he is here. He is watching over Sonata and is trying to freak us out because of how we treat her!"

"Whatever Adagio, if you want to believe her dead boyfriend is here then be my guest." She pointed her finger towards their bedrooms and continued, "Why don't you go up with Sonata and play with her ouija board or whatever dumb shit she does to screw things up."

"Look Aria, I'm just concerned that he may do something to you in your sleep."

"You watch too many of those fake ass ghost shows Dagi. Look, I'm going to bed, good night."

You stand there in shock over their short argument. While it is obvious that you have gotten through to Adagio without even trying to scare her, Aria is still completely unfazed by what you have been doing. You stand there and decide to take one more chance on trying to get her to break.

Once everyone went to bed you again went into Aria's room and waited for her to go to sleep. You look over on her dresser and see her stereo and get an idea. You think that perhaps if you can cause it to start blaring as loudly as possible, not only will you wake her up, but her sisters as well and with any luck, they will see her scared over it.

Once she had been asleep for a couple of hours you cause her stereo to start blaring as loud as possible. Out of the speakers is coming your voice, "Murderer, murderer, murderer."

She quickly gets up and screeches, "What the fuck?"

She turns on the light and you were hoping to see a look of fear in her eyes but that was not what you saw. You saw a look of anger as she ripped the cord out of the outlet and was yelling, "Shut up, shut up, shut up!"

Finally Adagio came rushing into your room and as she entered, you had the stereo go quiet to make Aria look like a fool. Adagio asked, "Aria, what the hell were you doing with your stereo so loud and why were you screaming obscenities?"

Aria replied, "Look, I don't know what's going on. My stereo came on and started blaring as loud as possible. Maybe it was a power surge or something."

It wasn't long until Sonata joined Aria and Adagio in your room. You thought that maybe this was your chance to finally get Aria to know you're there since her stereo was unplugged. You had the stereo power up again and out the speakers came, "I love you Sonata, I will always love you." You then decide to do something that may shock her into believing, "Aria, I want you to know I wish you no ill will, I just wish you would stop being so mean to Sonata."

As you looked at the three you saw a shocked look on the faces of both Sonata and Adagio, but the same scowl in Aria's face. Sonata yelled, "Do you believe now Aria! He is here looking after me and wants me to know he loves me."

Adagio added, "Look Aria, it was just earlier today I would have thought this was a bunch of BS but after the incident with the TV, I know it's real."

You looked on in disgust as Aria simply pointed out and said, "Look, we can talk about this tomorrow. I just want some sleep."

Aria's sisters headed back to bed and within five minutes, Aria had fallen back asleep. At this point you weren't sure if anything would break her. You had grabbed her, you shook the knife container, you whispered in her ear, you messed with the TV, you nearly choked her a couple of times and you caused her stereo to go haywire but still, outside of a couple angry outbursts, she remained unfazed. Finally you realize that you may have to scare her in a much worse way than you ever wanted.

Freaking Out Aria

The following morning arrived and like she always does, Aria got up completely unaffected by what you had done over the past several days. Sonata has known for a while that you are looking out for her while it was just the day before that Adagio finally noticed that you were indeed there. You decided that the time had finally come, the time to get Aria to see the light and realize that you are there.

Once Aria sat down for breakfast, her sisters would soon follow. Soon the drawer with the knives in it began to shake again causing Aria to look up. She turned her head to the left and asked, "What the hell was that?"

You looked on with a smile on your face as the drawer continued to shake. While Aria's reaction went from one of being a bit unnerved to one of being quite unnerved, Sonata couldn't help but smile. You began to realize that perhaps you were finally getting through to her. You thought that maybe, just maybe, that she would realize that you are indeed there.

What would scare Aria the most though was when you opened the drawer and threw a butcher knife straight at her. She got out of the way and yelled, "What the fuck? What the fuck was that?"

Unlike how previous incidents had simply caused Sonata and eventually Adagio to try and convince her that you were there, this actually scared her. For the first time in her life, Aria Blaze was actually scared. She looked around and asked, "Who are you? Who are you and what the hell do you want from me?"

Finally, you make your presence known to all of them. The room began to get cold, very cold. As it got colder, you began to appear before the three girls. When she saw you, Sonata was ecstatic. She ran to you and gasped, "Is it really you?"

While she couldn't wrap her arms around you, you could wrap your arms around her. You replied, "Yes Sonata, it is me. I want to let you know that I love your more than anything, I love you more than life itself."

Again she squealed the thing that attracted you to her the most, "Eeee, for realzies?"

You do let her know that it is for real and then you see Adagio standing there with a look of shock on her face. At first it seemed like she didn't really believe it was you but eventually she did. She gasped, "How could it be you? You're supposed to be dead."

You let her know that while physically you are dead, that spiritually you are very much alive. You bring about a lot of shock from her but as you look over at Aria, you see the same thing you have always seen, a scowl on her face. She yelled, "What the hell were you thinking, you could have fucking killed me!"

This frustrated you greatly. It seemed like no matter what you tried, Aria and her bad attitude simply would never go away. Aria began to pace around the room and yelled, "Leave me alone, just fucking leave me alone!" She began to get angrier as she yelled, "Look, I'm fucking sorry ok? I'm sorry for killing you, alright?"

Finally you got an apology from her but it did not seem genuine. To you it was the same old Aria, continued bitching, screaming and yelling. One thing you did not notice was that Aria had grabbed a knife and was charging towards you. When she hit you she thought she would bring you down but that was not the case. She simply passed straight through you and this caused her to become angrier, "Sonata, would you get your fucking boyfriend to just leave us alone? I can't take this shit anymore, he's driving me bat shit crazy!"

At long last you have begun to chip away at what you thought was Aria's unbreakable attitude but still, it is not quite enough. For now though, you decide that you will leave Aria alone. You disappear and she can sense that your presence has faded for the most part but she can still sense that you are there, "Sonata, what the hell is he doing? Is he trying to kill me?"

You watch from the next room as Sonata burst into tears, "You know what Aria, all he wanted was an apology but even that seems to be too much for you to give! All you did was give him a fake apology and go back into bitch mode! Why can't you just give a genuine apology and maybe he'll stop doing this."

Aria rolled her eyes, "Whatever Sonata, I'm sick of this shit. I'm going out for a while."

Aria stormed out the door leaving an angry Sonata and a completely shocked Adagio behind. As Sonata began to cry realizing that her sister may never truly believe her, Adagio did something she had never done before. She walked over to Sonata and comforted her, shedding a few tears of her own. You looked on in shock as you watched one of the girls you thought was always so cruel to her show that she did have a soft side.

While you are happy to see Adagio finally showing a soft side, you would not be thrilled when Aria returned home, in just as bad of a mood as she was when she left and naturally the primary target of her wrath was Sonata. You feel like there is nothing you can do at this point, all she ever does is treat Sonata like dirt and what really bothers you is that it is not Aria who is breaking, it is Sonata.

Night time had finally arrived and you simply don't know what to do. You want to continue to haunt Aria but it just doesn't work anymore. You think to yourself that you could just sit in her room, fully materialized and keep it cold in there but all she would do is get a blanket and mutter how you are the worst so you decide to make different plans, much different plans.

A Bittersweet Ending

View Online

That night you were angry, very angry. You were sick and tired of seeing Aria continue to treat Sonata like dirt, you were getting frustrated that other than the one situation involving the knife, that Aria seemed unbreakable and you wished so badly that you could give Sonata the comfort she needed but there was one thing that couldn't happen. While you can put your arms around her, she can't put her arms around you and this hurts you so much.

That night you decided that you would forget about staying in Aria's room, you would stay in Sonata's room instead. Given that you had been in their house for a while you knew what Sonata's routine was. You always knew that she would go to the bathroom, brush her teeth, take her ponytail out and use some mouthwash before heading to bed so you went to her room and waited for her.

That night Sonata was feeling mixed emotions. While she was happy that she was actually able to see you, she was happy that you were able to hold her and she was glad that Adagio believed her, she was still upset about Aria treating her like dirt but what bothered her the most was the fact that she couldn't hold you the way you are able to hold her.

She began to cry, "I wish he never would have stayed to check on me! It hurts so much that I can't hold him, that I can't interact with him the way I could if he were alive." Her cries only became more intense, "I don't know why I bother. I can't have my only love, Aria treats me like shit and I'm not even sure if Adagio will always be here for me." She slammed her foot into the floor, "I wish I could just escape. I just wish I could return to him, the only guy that ever mattered to me!"

After what seemed to be forever to you, Sonata returned to her room and you stood there watching over her with a smile. You realized that all this time hanging out in Aria's room in anger was ridiculous when you could have been watching over your dream girl. Soon she fell asleep and you just stood there, wishing so badly that you and her could have one day been together in a loving relationship, turning in for the night together.

Ultimately this bothered you too much, knowing that you were never able to fulfill your dreams of being in a committed relationship with your dream girl and watching her sleep became too much for you so you headed downstairs and decided to sit on the couch and wait for daylight.

That morning however you would be stunned when you heard a loud shriek coming from upstairs, the yells of Aria, "Sonata, wake up, it is time for breakfast."

You heard that same snarl in Aria's voice you always heard but as you headed upstairs, you also heard the yells from Adagio but a different kind of yell, a yell of desperation, "Sonata, wake up, wake up!"

When you got up there you saw them shaking her, trying to wake her up. One thing you couldn't help but notice though was that as they were shaking her, her face was buried in her pillows. Finally Adagio pulled her to where her face was out of her pillows but it looked pale and lifeless. Adagio felt for a pulse but none was to be found. She began to cry in agony, "No, please no! Please don't be dead Sonata, please don't be dead."

With her sudden change towards Sonata's beliefs that you were there, that didn't surprise you but what would happen next would shock you. Aria broke down and began to cry in agony, yep, Aria. From the moment you first met her, you never saw her show this kind of emotion and honestly wondered if she even had a heart, had broken down in agony.

Once the two realized that their sister was indeed gone they called 911 but they knew it was all for naught, they knew that all they were doing was having their sister transported to the morgue. When the ambulance arrived you watched with a great amount of sadness as the body of your dream girl was carted away and her sisters headed out the house to begin preparing for Sonata's funeral.

Being killed was bad enough but seeing Sonata carted away like that was too much for you to bear. You had avoided going towards the light for months solely so that you could haunt Aria and keep an eye on Sonata. Now you felt like there was nothing left for you, you felt like you no longer had purpose in this world but still, you had no desire to head towards the light.

There you were in Sonata's room, leaning at the foot of her bed, crying, "Why, why, why? Why did she have to die? Why her when she was far more deserving of life than anyone else?"

As you leaned over her bed you felt arms wrap around you and heard a sweet voice whisper into your ear, "Come with me and everything will be ok."

The voice you heard, it was so familiar. That sweet voice you had heard just yesterday, it was the voice of your dream girl, Sonata Dusk. You got up and turned around and before you stood the first girl you had ever fallen for. She pulled you close and began to cry, "I missed you, I missed you so much!"

You too began to cry, "I missed you too Sonata, I missed you more than anything."

Before you knew it Sonata began to pull you close to her, just like she did on that fateful day in the cafeteria, she was pulling you in for a kiss. At this moment you were in a state of pure bliss, your girlfriend was pulling you in for a kiss and finally it happened. The moment that should have happened in the cafeteria finally happened as your lips met hers. For you it was like fireworks were going off as everything finally was perfect for you.

Soon she would break the kiss and grab you by the hand. She led you out the door and said, "Follow me sweetie, follow me to a land where we can share eternity together."

She led you out the door and off to your right you saw what you had been avoiding for months, the light. You looked at Sonata and she gave you that same adorable smile she always had and you knew the time had come. Your purpose in this world had been fulfilled so you walked with your dream girl, arm in arm, hand in hand, into the light knowing that never again would you have to see all the hate and sorrow this world was filled with. Instead, you would live in eternal peace with the one person who ever really mattered to you, your dream girl and beloved girlfriend, Sonata Dusk.

The End
