Twilight goes to Canterlot

View Online

Twilight walked towards Canterlot castle. She was wondering why Celestia had asked to see her on such short notice, especially when normally a half week was the very least warning. Just hours ago she had received an official summons.

"Spike where are you?" Called the lavender unicorn. "I need you to take the old carpet to the rubbish dump." Twilight would never had asked him to do that if she didn't already have her hoofs full having to prune the library's branches.
"Sure thing Twilight, leave it to Spi-BURP!" Spike looked around for the letter her had just received when he heard a hooting sound in front of him.
"Who," said Owlouicous dropping the scroll in to the baby dragons outstretched hand.
"What does it say Spike?" asked Twilight Sparkle.
"It looks to me like you need to go to Canterlot Twilight, although Celestia didn't say why you have to."
As always, Twilight was happy to see the Royal sisters and had started walking to the station already. She paused to call over her shoulder to Spike to let him know he could stay at Rarity's place until she came back.

Shaking her mane to look presentable Twilight trotted up the steps and as she neared the top the white guards pony let her walk through and used his magic to open the massive doors for her. To move something that heavy must have taken considerable training and study she thought with respect for him.

"Twilight, here you are at last!" The cheery voice of Celestia derailed Twilights train of thought and put and school-filly grin on her face.
"Princess Celestia!" cried Twilight as she ran up to her and bowed low. Celestia suppressed a chuckle as the smaller pony bowed.
"Get up you silly filly, you don't need to bow, my most faithful student."

Twilight did as she was told and let out a tiny gasp as she did so; Luna had walked to meet her and looked just stunning! Bowing low once more, this time to hide her blush, Twilight mumbled a barely audible "Hi Luna."
"Twilight Sparkle, I see that you have arrived promptly." Boomed Luna in the Royal Canterlot Voice.
"Luna, the voice" hissed Celestia before putting on a massive smile and nudging her sister.
It was Luna's turn to blush now "I do hope I didn't startle you Twilight, the voice was purely accidental."
"Nn-no there's no problem with your voice it's all fine princess." Twilight was still bowing and her face was as red as Big Mac after a long day of bucking apples.
"Twilight, is something the matter, you don't look well?" the ever caring Celestia asked a somewhat panicky Twilight. Twilight however didn't answer and started to sweat and blush even more. "Well if you feel that bad then you should go to bed, business can wait until morning."
"Thank you and goodnight princesses" Twilight blurted out before running to her old room in the west tower, locking the door behind her. Panting, the flustered pony threw herself on to the bed and laid thinking about what had just happened.

How had Luna, sorry PRINCESS Luna still managed to affect get like that. She had already told herself that it was never going to happen. She was just a unicorn and Luna wan an alicorn! Not to mention princess if the night and the most beautiful pony Twilight had even met. Stupid feelings, stupid Twilight, stupid Luna with her awe inspiring body. No Twilight calm down, your not thinking straight, Luna isn't stupid anyway she's incredible.

This debate in her own head carried on for well over an hour when eventually Twilight did managed to fall asleep but not until Luna had already raised the moon. It was going to be an interesting night.

Twilight's first night

AN. This whole chapter happens whilst twilight is asleep, hence the italics. Thanks for reading I hope you enjoy it everypony!

Twilight looked around and found that the window was open in her room. She pondered this for a moment as she always sleeps without any light at all. Rolling out of bed she trotted over to the balcony and was about to shut it when a figure across the courtyard caught her eye. It was princess Luna! She decided to watch her for just a little while before climbing back into bed. A tiny gasp escaped the lips of Twilight as she saw that Luna had undressed for bed! Her crush was standing in her nude glory and only twilight could see it. Every part of her was divine, even her shoeless hooves caused Twilights heart rate to go up. The unicorn was now panting heavily from shock and desire to make Luna hers, the feelings she felt after seeing Luna naked gave her more powerful feelings towards the princess of the night. Twilight almost passed out when Luna walked over on to her large balcony and spread her wings. She truly was a goddess!

Twilights heart skipped more than one beat when her crush turned towards her. She had been seen by Luna! Their gazes locked for a moment before Twilight looked away, unable to hold the gaze of one so powerful for any longer. Running back in to her room Twilight began to sob. Her bed was wet through in a matter of minutes but no relief came through the shedding of tears.

She heard a gentle voice behind her, laced with care, concern and the will to comfort, "Twilight, what is it that makes you so distressed."
Twilight shrieked in alarm and buried herself under her soggy pillow. "Luna," she sobbed "I didn't want to upset you or even look at you but I couldn't stop myself."
"What in Equestria are you talking about, I have only just entered your dream after I sensed your distress."
"So your not mad at me?" Twilight asked whilst emerging from her duvet.
"Of course not my little pony, now, tell me about this dream you had."
"OK but only if you promise not to tell anypony, please?"
In Twilights eyes Luna could see a desperate need for this security before she would talk. With a slight sigh Luna said to her "As Celestia is my witness I swear not to tell anypony about your dream!"

Satisfied with Luna's oath, Twilight recounted her dream to Luna. More than a little embarrassed about revealing why she had ran off to her room earlier in the day Twilight was loath to admit her strong feelings towards Luna. Being a good listener Luna did not once interrupt although raised an eyebrow at the juicier parts of her tale. By the end Twilight had convinced herself that princess Luna would never talk to her again and burst in to tears.

"Hush Twilight, these things happen but I am more than a little surprised that I was in this kind of dream of yours." The princess raised an eyebrow as she spoke softly to the panicking unicorn. "We can talk more about this in the morning if you desire but first..." Luna walked over to twilight and gave her a wink before kissing the unsuspecting pony. Taken aback and flustered Twilight struggled for words but none came, only a dry splutter.

Luna giggled and walked over to the balcony with her wings out, putting far more sway to her flank than needed. Once she was at the edge she glanced back at Twilight before flying out in to the night and laughing. Twilight ran to the balcony once more and leapt up on the rails that were there, trying to get one last look at the beautiful princess of the night. Sighing in longing as the pony she dreamed of flew away.

Returning to her bed she settled back down and tried to think of anypony but Luna but alas! She could not forget Luna even though she knew this was all a dream.

The morning after

Twilight awoke to the 'real' world, the world of living not dreaming and found herself surrounded by four ponies.
She forgot about the night before when she saw Cadance, her brothers wife and her favourite foal sitter from all those years ago. "Cadence!" she cried hugging her. "How are you."
"Twilight my dear how are you today, are you feeling better now?" Cadences voice was filled with worry and care.
"Yeah I think so, my umm... head feels funny though." Twilight replied happily at first until she realised that she was supposed to be ill after last nights hurried retreat. She did, however jump out of bed with vigour and get down low on to all fours.
Cadance giggled at the smaller pony's antics and joined her almost on the floor. They chanted their song at the same time.
"Sunshine sunshine ladybugs awake, clap your hoofs and do a little shake." Like they always do the two mares laughed like fillies and rolled around giggling for a moment.
"Doctor I believe that miss Sparkle will not be requiring medical attention, you may go." Whilst he was walking away Celestia turned to her protégé, "Well Twilight," said Celestia with a smile, "It appears that your little, dance has cleared up your illness rather well."
"Oh um yes, it seems to have done that doesn't it," replied Twilight sheepishly. Twilight then noticed that Luna and a doctor were also in the room too. "Oh, um good morning princess Luna, h-how was your watch of the night?"
Luna gave Twilight a none too discreet smirk and replied after a second or two. "It was an... eventful night." She saw some discomfort flicker on Twilights face and thought about giving the unicorn an easy reprieve but decided to tease Twilight just a little more. Leaning over the bed she whispered in Twilights ear, careful not to let anypony hear her words. "Last night caused me some considerable excitement," the words whispered lightly in her ear made all the more potent by feeling Luna's soft lips brushing her cheek with every letter.

Twilight dived under her duvet with her face burning red. This uncharacteristic behaviour if her student caused Celestia to magically pull the cover off the bed. With a slight squeal Twilight buried her head under her pillow, her tail firmly wrapped around her rump on to her side. Now quite concerned about Twilight she levitated her off of the bed and brought Twilights face up to her level.
"What in Equestria has gotten in to you Twilight Sparkle," she demanded in her mist stern voice, one capable of making prince Blueblood tremor and change his behaviour.
Twilight still decides to try and fool Celestia and blamed it on not being able to sleep, saying that she had a bad dream. This of course didn't work and earned her a glare for her poor attempt at trying to weasel out of it. Luna was being quietly questioned by the element of love and was looking very uncomfortable.
Celestia's tone softened to the caring voice Twilight knew well. "You don't have to tell me if you really don't want to, I'm just worried about you petal." Twilight was put down back on to the floor and rushed over to hug Celestia.
"Come on sister, that's quite enough questions for one day," Luna turned to Cadance and spoke once again. "You too Cadance, let's leave Twilight alone for a while until lunch."
"OK Luna, I'll catch you two up" princess Mi Amore Cadenza told the royal sisters before turning back to Twilight. "I need a private word with our 'patient'."

After the door had shut behind Celestia and Luna, Cadence rounded on Twilight. "I know what happened last night in your dreams."
Twilight let out a gasp of horror and shock before whispering to Cadance, "how did you-"
"Luna just told me about your dream." She said quickly to save Twilight the trouble of trying to work out what had happened. "Before you say anything you might regret I see nothing wrong with you thinking about her in this way."
"But, but, but you know she's a princess and I can't even look at her without feeling slightly unwell. I want to say things but they can't be said and even if I did say them she'd only laugh at me." Her rant had left Twilight in tears and now she was sobbing uncontrollably for the second time in two days.
"Twilight its okay," Cadance said as she sat down on the bed next to the distraught pony. "Come here," she softly whispered wrapping a hoof around Twilights shoulder. "I won't tell anyone about this, not even Shining."
"Pinkie promise?" Twilight sniffed hopefully.
Cadance gave a small smile and made the oath. "Cross my heart and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye!" she finished the rhyme with gusto. "Tell you what'" she said to the now smiling Twilight, "get yourself cleaned up and we'll all meet you for lunch in twenty minutes."
"OK I'll be there princess Cadance." Twilight was already much happier now that she didn't have to completely hide her feelings. Cadance was about to walk out of the room when Twilight called her back. "Oh and thank you so much, I'm really lucky to have a sister like you."
"Oh Twilight, I'll always be there for you if you need me." And with that Cadance walked out of the room and softly closed the door behind her tri colour tail.
Twilight didn't waste even a second, immediately hopping out if bed and going to the bathroom. She took only a second to glance at herself in the mirror and splash her face with water before coming out and once again sitting in her bed. This time however it was to brush her mane and now she was exited about seeing Luna. Inside her head was bursting with everything she wanted to do with the Alicorn to make Luna happy, like flying through the sky in Pinkie Pie's hot air balloon, or taking her on a walk through the Everfree forest in the moonlight. At that moment she decided that she couldn't wait another day and had to tell Luna how she felt right now. Steeling herself, Twilight forced a grimace on to her face and got up to walk to lunch with the Royal family.

Glancing up at the clock to check the time Twilight almost shrieked when she saw that lunch was due to start in 2 minutes. She dashed out the door to begin the rest of her life.

The lunch date

"Oh no oh no oh no" Twilight muttered under her breath as she galloped through the halls of Canterlot castle. "I can't be late, I need needed to look organised for princess Luna." Twilight felt herself forget her worries as her thoughts were filled by her crush. There it was! The venue for lunch was just ahead of her and she put on a burst of speed now it was in sight. Twilight skidded to a halt in font of the door and stopped for a moment to catch her breath.

A second later and a voice behind her caused Twilight to jump, "it's good to see that you are still punctual, for a second I began to think that you wouldn't come." When Twilight turned to face the pony behind her she was greeted by the smiling face of Princess Luna.
"Luna, there's something I need to tell you," Twilight said. Her face was already starting to go red at the cheeks and looked down at her hoof.
"Well do go on then Twilight, I'm starving and soup is on the menu."
"It can wait until after lunch..."
"Well OK then, if your sure," Luna said as she turned to the doorway.
"Wait!" Twilight shouted a little to loudly. "I have to tell you now that I..."
"That you what Twilight?" Luna was starting to get edgy with all the strange behaviour that Twilight had been displaying recently.
"I'm in lo..." Twilight stopped again, and with a swallow continued. "I'm in love with you Luna, I can't stop thinking about you even when I sleep. That dream you saw wasn't the first like that and I see the only cause of this is love." She blurted all this at once and left Luna's royal mouth slightly agape.

Luna stood rigid for a second before composing herself and with a shake of her starry mane addressed Twilight. "I see, this is a surprise but after last night I will admit to wondering what it would be like for you to be mine." Luna stared in to space for a moment before speaking once more, though this time without the dominance that she usually oozed naturally being the co-ruler of Equestria. "Would you care to meet me in my chambers after supper and discuss this matter further?"
Twilight looked up in to the eyes of Luna and for the first time saw something she had never expected, uncertainty. "Oh princess I would love to meet you later on I'll be there I promise!" She had started to jump on the spot and wore her customary smile.

"Very well, tonight it is, but now we must eat for I fear I might pass out from hunger," her point punctuated by a most unladylike rumble of the belly as she threw open the door with her magic. Barely a second after the door had opened, Twilight was in the room and at Luna's side.
Instantly they were greeted by the warm smile of Celestia and perhaps more importantly, the smell of daffodil and daisy soup.

"Ladies, how good of you it is to join us," the booming voice of Discord echoed around them.
"Discord," Luna scorned jokingly. "Inside castle voices please."
"Okay, if I must... Woona." Discord's characteristic grin grew even wider at the use of Luna's childhood nickname.
Luna gasped in shock that Discord would know about her name and use it. She rounded on her sister.
"How dare you tell anyone, least of all him, about my childhood name. You took an oath never to repeat that name to anyone. Now you shall feel my wrath... Celly!" She couldn't keep the grin from her face and fell about laughing whilst Discord promptly began painting 'long live princess Celly' on the walls.
"Luna, this has gone too far, you will be silent for the rest of the meal or go to your room!" Reluctantly Luna sat down and muttered an apology to her older sister. Twilight was stood in shock by the table and only sat down when she saw Celestia also had.

The rest of the meal was uneventful other than Discord making the salt and pepper dance to lighten the mood. Twilight brushed Luna's hoof with her own causing Luna to jump. Discord at last broke the tangible silence but was to earn a glare from the white Alicorn.
"Celly, be a dear and pass me over the lettuce bowl." When she gave him a look so painfully sharp he summoned a sword and deflected laser beams from her eyes that he had also conjured. "Alright then Molestia I'll get it myself" he muttered under his breath.

Luna excused herself not long after that and Twilight followed suit. The rest of lunch was simply a stare off between Discord and Celestia until with a click of his fingers Discord was gone.
For the rest of the day Twilight wondered the gardens and sat down by an old oak tree until she dozed off in to a pleasant sleep.

Twilight awoke many hours later and discovered that it was late evening. She looked around to see that one of the royal guard had spoken to her just a second before.
"Miss Twilight?" He asked her gently. "Her royal Highness Celestia has requested that you join her and princess Luna for dinner now."
"My goodness, is it that time already?" When the orange pegasus nodded she thanked him for waking her and began to walk towards the castle again.
"Miss Sparkle, if you don't mind me saying...?"
"Of course not Mr...?
"Sentry, Flash Sentry" he said in a deep voice. "Are you aware that you have a rather large twig in your mane?"
"Um, no I wasn't, thank you Mr Sentry." She shook her mane and dislodged the offending foliage. "Excuse me now but I must meet the Princesses for supper. Have a good night Mr Flash Sentry." He bowed and she waved a little goodbye before cantering back up to the castle.

A new arrival

View Online

Once again Twilight had only just arrived on time. Out of breath and red in the face she burst in to the same hall as she was in earlier.
"Sorry... Late...sleep...tree...garden...ran...sorry...just...give...second," she panted between laboured breaths before collapsing in the closest chair. Celestia was sitting down and halfway through an elegant sip of tea when Twilight had burst in so spectacularly and remained frozen for a full 20 seconds before setting down her cup and clearing her throat.
"Twilight, you're just in time for the first course," Celestia said as if nothing odd had happened. "Luna ordered snowdrop and crocus salad for you," the smile on Celestia's face warm and loving.
Luna spoke to Twilight now "I thought you'd like to try something new." Twilight thought she saw a little wink as Luna spoke.
"Come up this end of the table, won't you Twilight?"
When Luna mentioned her name, Twilight's ears pricked up and she snapped her neck round to face the younger princess. Now slightly flustered at the thought of Luna wanting her to be nearer to her, even if it was as menial as a seat at a table. A minute later and Twilight had re-seated herself by Luna but the calmness was disturbed by the entry of Cadance who was looking, as always, radiant.

Celestia was already on her hooves and was running towards the hall entrance and embraced Cadance in a protective embrace. "Cadance where have you been, I was worried sick." To an onlooker it would appear that Celestia was Cadance's mother, the way that she was protectively smoothing down her tri-coloured mane and checking her over thoroughly for injury.
"Aunty I'm fine, I'm not hurt in fact I feel wonderful!" Her eyes were wide and the happiness in her voice was clear to hear.
The power now coming through in Celestia as she scorned like a little filly.
"You might be the ruler of the crystal empire now but that doesn't mean you can run away like that." The worried parent streak still clear as Celestia finished her rant. "Where were you, and why didn't you tell anyone you were going anywhere you could have bee-."
"Aunty!" Cadance interrupted as she broke free of the hug. "I'm here now and I'm fine, I was meeting somepony at the station on short notice and I forgot to tell you about it. I'm sorry," she finished feeling thoroughly told off.

Shining Armor had been stood behind the two of them the whole time since he had come in seconds after Cadance but had gone unnoticed. He cleared his throat loudly to announce his presence.
"Shining!" The lavender unicorn was latched on to her BBBFF and hugging hard before anyone had a chance to move.
"Umm hi there Twiley, you seem..."
"Happy to see you," she finished. "Yes I am because its been months since I saw you last and now you here, with Cadance at the same time!"
"Yeah well here we are!" He smiled weekly, and was obviously tired from his long journey from the crystal empire. He kissed Twilight on the forehead, just underneath her horn and unwrapped her legs from around him. "Its great to see you too but right now I'm shattered. Can we hang out with each other in the morning."
"Sure," Twilight chirped, "we can hang out all day tomorrow!"

Shining Armour bade the rest of the dinner party goodnight and went to the door but was stopped by Cadance. She called him back before heading over to Luna and speaking in hushed tones with her.
"Could you send some food up later on, I think my Shining needs something to keep him going. I need some time to get... Reacquainted with him," the obvious meaning of her words not needing to be said.
"Don't worry about a thing Cadance" Luna said, a broad smile on her face. "Enjoy your fine stallion but remember, in an hour the guards will come in with a delectable spread so bear that in mind."
"Oh thank you Luna!" Cadance squealed excitedly, hugging Luna hard before bouncing out of the room to catch up with Shining.

Luna shook her head slightly and turned to Celestia with a confused look on her face.
"Tia, how long has it been since cadance came here with out Shining?"
"Three weeks and no more," the older Alicorn said. "The two must be madly in love if they can't even stand to be this far apart from each other for less than a month."

"So that it what it is" Luna thought. "It seems that I am in love with a mare! Oh my gosh, everypony is going to think I'm some disgusting made for living another one. And its Twilight! I can't stand to be apart from her and she's all I think about. Celestia will banish me again for loving her student when I'm over two thousand years older than her."

She looked around the room and saw Celestia's fork hovering delicately in the air with the tiniest morsel of food on it. At last she would take it no more, her fears of rejection making her feel unwell.

"What if she doesn't love me anymore," she murmured.
"Pardon dearest sister, what was that," Celestia asked quietly.
"Oh um it was nothing, I didn't say anything." Luna got up from the table. "I am going to retire to my room now, if you need me you know where I will be," she finished. No one said anything to object as she walked away. No sooner had she left the hall tears began to well up in her eyes. She ran all the way to her room, past Cadence's suite and to her tower. She layed on her bed and began to weep.

The honey moon suite

Cadance's point of view (still 3rd person, or 3rd pony?, but with Cadance as the focus and pony that is being 'followed')

"Come on honey, we only have an hour until Luna will send the guards," Cadance said dragging the captain of the royal guard with her.
"Please Cady just slow down a second," the exhausted stallion said. "I haven't slept since yesterday."
"Look, we're almost there, just keep going and I'll make it worth it for you." Cadance trailed off and finished with a seductive smile and leaning heavily on her husband
"But Cadance, I'm so tired I can hardly stand." He punctuated his point with a loud yawn. "You know I love you Cady, its just that I'm really tired."
"OK baby, just lay down and I'll do all the work," she said as her horn glowed a pale blue and opened their rooms door.
It was a vast room and it had been furnished exquisitely. The sofa had been stuffed with goose down as had the the pillows resting upon it. The walls were adorned with lavish tapestries and a large picture of Canterlot as seen from the castle's east tower. The floor had been carpeted in a thick creamy colour and the bed! It was a bed rivaled by very few. It was a grand four poster bed that was made in the finest dark walnut wood and had been polished to a shine. The mattress was as thick as two others and twice as soft.
"Oh my word Cadance, is this where you used to sleep whilst you lived here?"
"No silly!" She let out a giggle. "This is the honeymoon suite, I used to have a little fillies room that was half this size."
"Well this is truly extravagant, how on earth did you arrange for us to have it for the night?" He asked her in wonder.
"The night, oh no my dearest, we have this for a week. Being a princess does have its benefits." She finished with an impish grin and pulled her lover in to a passionate kiss which he returned hungrily.

Still kissing passionately, Shining Armor took off Cadance's front slippers and the two fell on to the bed. She kicked off her remaining shoes at last broke the kiss for air.
"Wow you really are in the mood for it tonight aren't you baby."
"Well of course I am, I've missed you and when your sister Twilight turned up here she reminded me of you."
"My sister... really Cady?" Shining looked to be both worried and amused at this news.
"God no, she's a mare and besides, I have you. She made me remember you even more that's all."
"Well then, what do you remember most about me?" He grinned and flipped her over on to her back so her was on top of her, eliciting a squeal of surprise and excitement.
"Oh baby, you know I like all of you." Her breaths were starting to come ragged and her pupils were dilated.
"Please Shining, I NEED you now!" Her cry of suspense filling the room and would have done the entire corridor if not for the soundproofing in the walls.
"Well then my lady, as part of the royal guard it is my duty to serve you however I can." He trailed off and a grin to put pinkie pie to shame adorned his face.

I love you Twilight

Luna will be the main character in this chapter set right after chapter 5

It had been a few minutes since dinner had ended so abruptly and she had left. Tears were still streaming down her face even after she had told herself to stop being so silly. Deep down she knew that Celestia would always support her, even if she was unsure as to what she believed Luna should do. This served little comfort to the princess of the night as she was above all else, being irrational.
A knock came at the door but Luna ignored it and instead buried herself underneath her silk duvet. Seconds later and the sound came once more. Knock knock knock.
"Luna its me Twilight, please let me in."
"No!" She almost shouted at the smaller pony. "I don't want to see anypony now."
"Luna." Twilight was trying another approach and being stern, trying to get Luna to react to her and let her in. "Let me in now princess, you invited me here and now you refuse to let me in?" Twilight was going to get a shock at what was to come next.

"WE WILL NOT LET YOU IN, NOW LEAVE AND STOP DISTURBING US. THOU SHOULD NOT HAVE COME HERE TWILIGHT SPARKLE, AND YOU HAVE ANGERED US." The distinctive sound of the royal Canterlot voice boomed through the entire spire that belonged to Luna. Not a single word was uttered whilst Luna recovered from her outburst and sat on her bed panting. Coming to her senses Luna at once ran to the door and not caring about her appearance pulled it open with her magic. The sight before her cut through the anger and sadness of the last half an hour since dinner and drop kicked Luna's heart, almost as far as the very moon.
Twilight was sitting on the floor with her tail wrapped around her flank. Her eyes were full of sadness and were starting to well up with tears. Her ears were pressed flat against her head and the final thing to push Luna over the edge was Twilights eyes. Eyes that's pupils were so large and deep that one could get lost in them.
Luna rushed over to Twilight and embraced her with a front leg and her neck.
"Please don't cry Twilight, I didn't mean it." Luna's voice was once again the calm and soothing tone that Twilight was used to.
The princess continued, "I want you to come in and talk, I truly do. Come now." As Luna said this she gently levitated Twilight like one would a baby and carried her to the bed.
Once that Twilight had been set down Luna shut the doors ever so softly and flew a few feet to her bed. The unicorn had already stopped tearing up and was at the sniffing stage as Luna shuffled over to Twilight.

"Goddamnit Luna, pull yourself together." Luna thought to herself as she sat by Twilight. "Its just a hug. She's upset and your comforting her with a hug, no big deal. You'd do the same if it was Discord. She stopped herself there, shook her head and shuddered. She did no want to remember THAT particular part of her youthful years.

Still hesitant, Luna wrapped a leg around Twilight and immediately the two of them melted together filling up the little gaps between them and giving them both a warm feeling inside. Luna felt Twilight's breathing calm to an gentle rise and fall before lifting her head and looking at Twilight's face. Her heart warmed when she looked upon Twilights face and saw tears still flowing. They were tears not of sorrow, but relief happiness and a deep acting all at once. Twilight looked up at her once more and this time a smile played on her lips.

"Thank you Luna, for everything," she said and drooped her head in to the safety of Luna's chest once more. Luna's face lit up when she heard those words and moments later the sounds of a gently sleeping pony.
"I love you Twilight" Luna said quietly and stroked her mane softly.

How Celestia's night went...

How Celestia's night went...
Luna got up abruptly and levitated her seat back under the table. "I am going to retire for the night, if you need me you know where I will be." She left the dining hall in a dignified but rushed manner that Celestia had never seen in her sister and as Luna left the room she thought she had a tear in her eye.

Celestia sat in shock at the scene that had just played out before her. "What's wrong with Luna, I've never seen her like this. She's the most level headed pony I know, only one thing has ever caused her to behave out of character and that was a little over 1000 years ago with the rise of nightmare moon."

She was shaken out of her reverie when one her royal guard burst in unannounced.

"Your highness, somepony is here to see you, we told her that you were eating but has insisted that her being here is of great importance." He bowed low as he said this, hoping that this sudden intrusion would be forgiven.

"Do not worry soldier, but might I ask who it was who wished for an audience with me?"

"Of course princess, the mare was a blue unicorn who goes by the name of-"

"Trixie is here now to speak with you Princess Celestia." She took off her hat and held it to her chest as she bowed her head.

Celestia turned to the guard and addressed him, "Thank you Sargent, you may leave now, any thing that she brought with her should be taken to guest suite number 6."

He bowed low and exited the room backwards, closing the grand doors magically behind him.

"So Trixie, you have quite the nerve showing up here after what you did in Ponyville, you know."

"That was part of the reason for my visit, you see princess, the gracious and humble Trixie has come here in order to... Apologise." She'd lost much of her earlier charisma and was now sounding very much like a naughty little filly. Trixie the decided that once she was in the company of the Princess, she would have to drop the showmare attitude, even if it left her without the emotional protection it offered.

Celestia's eyes shot wide in shock; not once had Trixie apologized for anything the entire time that she had been at the same school for gifted unicorns as Twilight had been. Even then she had been almost as arrogant as normal, and for good reason! Twilight was the only pony in Canterlot who outperformed her at magic.
Whilst Celestia's mind reeled at this uncharacteristic behaviour of Trixie's, the unicorn in question had begun to feel very emotional at seeing her old teacher and dealt with these feelings the only was she knew, by suppressing them.

The uncomfortable silence had left Trixie feebly digging at the floor with her front hoof and silently wishing that she had perhaps written a letter for Celestia instead. At last the white coated mare spoke up and after a false start spoke to Trixie.
"Trixie, of course I forgive you." The motherly streak once again shining through in to Celestia's gentle tones. "The Alicorn amulet was never meant to be used by anypony, not even me. You couldn't control the power and it all but consumed you. I know that whilst you might have made a bad decision but you never wanted to hurt Ponyville." She finished and walked over to Trixie, sitting down next to her and wrapping a great wing around her weakened Trixie's resolve.

"Thank you Celestia I...I only wanted Twilight to know I was as good as her at magic. She was always your favourite and it hurt so much when she became your private student and I was forgotten." Sobs emanated from Trixie Lulamoon for the next few minutes whilst all of the sadness from the past; being second best to Twilight in school, being humiliated in Ponyville with the Ursa minor disaster and finally how she was consumed by the amulet.
After Trixie's sobs had died down Celestia spoke to the younger mare.
"Trixie I never forgot about you or stopped caring, just because I spent time with Twilight didn't mean I preferred her to you. I'm so proud of you Trixie, just in a different way to Twilight."

"Really?!?! But she's your prized student, the best you've ever had. I don't understand..." She hung her head in confusion and flattened her ears. Trixie quickly regained her posture and stood ready to challenge Celestia once more. "But why didn't you ever try to stop me from leaving the school? If you hadn't always been so busy with your precious Twilight Sparkle, then maybe Tri - I would have become better than Twilight, good enough to be your student." She hung her head in shame and embarrassment at allowing herself to reveal this part of her.

Celestia was taken aback by this, even if a small part of her expected that Trixie wouldn't fold and crumple at her carefully chosen words. the thousands of years that she had spent as a ruler had left her with a gift of knowing just how to placate most ponies. The great white Alicorn however did not let this surprise show and instead decided that a new angle of approach might be called for. "Trixie, on your travels I have no doubt that you have heard of the elements of harmony?" A nod. "And do you know that the bearers of these elements have been found?" a slow shake of the head confirmed Celestia's words. "Well a group of friends in a small town called Ponyville happen to have been chosen by the elements themselves to wield them, a feat that nopony but me and my dearest sister have managed throughout history. Do you see where this is going Trixie?" Celestia realised that she must spell it out for the magician. "Twilight is the element of magic and is made stronger by the friendship she has with those five mares."

With a wavering voice Trixie replied, "I - I think I understand, and sorry for doubting your reasons Princess." A bow followed and Trixie used it to hid the tears on her face.

Celestia's smile widened and she held up Trixie's head with her foreleg and began to speak once more. "Twilight might be the better magician an Element bearer after all, but you, Trixie Lulamoon, have something that Twilight has never learned: independence. You never have to rely on anyone else to do something for you, you've always been a solo act." She took Trixie's hooves in her own and as Trixie raised her head she planted a soft kiss on her head. Not a kiss of a lover but that of a mother caring for a child.

Trixie's eyes shot open, her pupils dilated to twice their normal size. A second later and Celestia pulled away to see the full reaction of her ex student.
Already Trixie was recovering and wasn't nearly as flustered as was to be expected and if you had looked deep in to her eyes you would have seen a spark. A spark of determination, courage and above all more mischief than even Discord. With out a word, or thought, Trixie's head leaned back and shot up to catch Celestia's lips with her own.

Now the ruler of Equestria was on the back foot for once, kissing a mare in this way was a new experience for her, naturally she had been with a few stallions in her time, after all she was thousands of years old. Not once in that time had she even thought of engaging in a little fillyfooling unlike her younger sister, as she knew all too well.

It took Celestia a few seconds but she pulled back after the realisation of what his mare had just done and her ever calm face had a look of absolute surprise on her face. Trixie's trademark smirk had returned by the time Celestia had stopped reeling.

She collected her hat with a small burst of telekinesis.
"Thank you for agreeing to talk with me, most benevolent Celestia. If you don't mind I would like to retire to my room for the evening, I fear that the journey here pulling my cart has left me most tired."

"Oh um yes Trixie please do," Celestia replied, her thoughts momentarily elsewhere. "And if you're still around tomorrow, would you care to join us at breakfast tomorrow?"

"Of course Princess, I shall be there. Goodnight." She left the room with far more sway in her hips than was truly necessary, and a fresh spring if her steps, trotting out of the room and all with such a wide smile on her lips that it could rival Pinkie's.
"Goodnight Miss Lulamoon," Celestia called after her quietly.

The ruler of Equestria stood for a moment before returning to her seat, sitting and failing to remember quite what it was she had been doing before that intrusion. At a loss Celestia shook her head and she too decided to go to her room, after all, the sun won't raise itself in the morning, she reasoned to herself. She slept the most comfortable for over a thousand years, her dreams filled by stars and moons on a sea of velvet.

Is that what I think it is?

Twilight awoke the next morning on the most comfortable bed she had ever been on. The duvet was so soft and the unimaginable luxury of the Princess's suite surprised Twilight even more than it had last night now that she could take it all in in the morning rays. She rolled over and yawned, pulling the covers back up to her neck with a short blast of purple magic. Not ten seconds after she had done that she was once again disturbed from her rest this this time however by a far less objectionable reason than waking up. Luna opened the doors and came in, quite obviously tired from a long night watching over the nightmares and guarding the dreams of innocent ponies.

"Morning sleepy head!" Luna's voice lighting up when she saw Twilight's body curled up on her bed and moving to get comfortable.
Twilight responded with a noise of her own. "Eurgh, is it already morning?"
"Tia raised the sun over an hour ago! Surely you can't still be tired." Being an Alicorn had clearly caused Luna to forget about the worries of mere mortals, sleep amongst them. You see, an alicorn does not need to sleep but it does help them to refresh themselves and is one of life's little comforts that the Princesses enjoy very rarely.

"Fine I'll get up then." Twilight wasn't very tired as she was usually awake far in to the night and at the crack of dawn also to read this "oh so important" book as Spike put it. In truth, this was the most she had slept in months because after all, running a library could be immensely taxing on the brain.
"Come on Twilight, you haven't even brushed your mane yet and we only have an hour until breakfast in the hall."
"Oh no, an hour!" The mock horror in Twilight's voice was clear for all to hear. "However shall I prepare my self for such an important event that is breakfast?" She lifted a hoof to cover her mouth, going for the Oscar.

This was not lost on Luna, who lifted an eyebrow and tried, unsuccessfully, to conceal her grin. She burst out laughing and fell to the floor, "Oh Twilight, stop it, your killing me!" Unbeknownst to the element holder, her mane had a large section sticking up.
"Luna what in Equestria is so funny," a smirk of bemusement sat upon her face.
In response Luna only used her magic to summon a mirror, her breathing ragged from giggling so much.

Twlight's face face fell, her shocked expression saying everything. Had it been Rarity looking at the mirror, the famous feinting couch would have been needed and Luna would have recoiled for on the ear piercing scream that would ensue. However this being Twilight, her reaction was very different.
"Ohmygoodnesswhatamigoingtodo!" The rant had started and there was no stopping it now. "Mymaneisruinedandnowimgoingtohavebreakfastwithroyaltyand...andilookaweful!" She began to suck in copious amounts of air, trying to recover from her panicky rant.
"Told you so" Luna managed to croak out through side splitting chuckles.

"Luna." A deadly serious voice came from Twilight's mouth. "There is simply one solution," she said whilst getting up from the bed and setting down Luna's mirror.
Luna's smile fell and the expression on her face matched that of Twilight's voice.
"Go on." She said to Twilight and motioned with a hoof.
"I need you to do some powerful magic, that only an Alicorn can do."

"What is it Twilight?"

She sighed. "I need you... to stop time." If those words had been any others then the situation might have turned out better for all parties involved.
For a number of long seconds, Luna in silence, her mouth slightly agape in a most unladylike manner. "Bwa ha ha!" Luna couldn't retain it this time and had hit the floor once more, clutching her belly. "Stop time, ha!" Still shaking on the floor, Luna pointed at Twilight accusingly. "Do you even know how hard that is? It would take both me and Tia to do one on such short notice."

"But Lunaaa," she whined. "I can't go down like this, my mane looks worse than no mane at all!" She crawled over to Luna and snuggled up to her. One last attempt she decided, "Please, I'd do anything for you?"
When she heard those words she knew that Twilight really was desperate to look good for her mentor and friend. Luna knew that whilst Celestia might giggle at the state Twilight was in she certainly wouldn't think anything less of her or mock her over something as menial as a bad hair day.
"Listen to me Twilight, we now have around twenty minutes to be at breakfast I will assist you with your hair until then and then I will depart for my meal, I will give you a further ten minutes to arrive or I will fetch you myself." Twilight bowed her head and dropped the notion of a time stop, resigning herself to be late for breakfast. When the princess of the night herself told you to get your flank in to gear, you did.

Luna levitated a brush and tossed it to Twilight who wrapped the handle in a tendril of her lavender magic. "OK Twilight, get brushing filly, you've got one bad hair day!"
"Thank you Luna," Twilight said.
"Not to worry Twilight, just remember this, you owe me one," a grin crossing her midnight blue face, just thinking of the things she could get Twilight to do.
"Ummmnm yeah, I owe you one princess!" The purple pony started to manipulate the hair brush through her tangled locks.
Luna got out a second brush and gave her own mane a short once over before going over to her mirror and a previously unnoticed box. A simple unlock spell opened the ornately carved miniature chest and revealed its well kept secrets; the make up of Canterlot's one and only Princess of the night.

"Luna, is that what I think it is?" Twilight was in disbelief at the vast array of beauty products and another less appropriate object of Luna's.
Luna slammed the lid of the box down and teleported it across the room to her bed.
"N-n-no, that was um, 'Tia's box so I, um, didn't know that... thing was there." She blushed and lied obviously at this discovery and blunder of her own.
"Why in Equestria did you have your sisters make up box AND know the enchantment," she pressed.
"Well you see, I lost mine and borrowed her make up and." She paused to buy herself a few seconds time but Twilight was having none of it.
"Well? Why was that... item," she let out a shudder of discus. "Still in your possession," she finished with such distain.

"Come on Luna, we must get a grip upon ourselves! Stop panicking and just tell her it is ours, it is even the same colour as our coat for Discord's sake! How couldn't it be ours? We could just erase her memory..." She mused over this point for a few seconds before remembering that was illegal and then that Twilight would hate her forever if she was to find out. "Just be calm, we are all adults and don't say that we haven't thought of her whilst using it. Luna! Focus now, just tell Twilight its ours and move on. Now!"

"Twilight you see really it is..." She trailed off once more before seeing the perfect escape. "Oh my goodness will you look at the time, I need to leave for the dining hall at once."
Dissatisfied with Luna, Twilight moved to block the Princess's path and force an answer out of her but forgot one thing, Luna could teleport and did so right out of the room. Only the sound of a galloping pony could be heard for a few seconds until silence fell once more.

"Did I really just find Luna's... no surely not it must have been something else entirely." The naïve side of her said but she knew that there was no fooling herself, Luna has a sex toy. She made a promise to find out once and for all why Luna had one, and in with her make up! A shake of the head dismissed the issue and set about brushing her mane once more.
