Lord Dunsany was an infectious writer; he made you want to follow him and try the fit of his clothes yourself. I still have the beginnings of a pastiche I attempted back in my early teens; it went nowhere without a plot to guide it.

This time, firmly harnessed to yet another four-legged memetic hazard, I was able to get more traction. I hope my readers will find that this little tale was worth the telling.

I have one story waiting on a bit of plot tweaking after I received comments from my pre-readers; it's close but not there yet. And Mismatching Wits is waiting for me to address a structural issue before I proceed.

But I've been sitting on this one for over two years. It's time to let it fly.

I have been encouraged to produce more chapters of Mismatching Wits and have been woefully delinquent in doing so. Much of this is due to Real Life stuff (and no, I will not even try to open a Patreon for a fanfic). Even so, there is a large amount of material already written for the story. The question is how to present it.

While I am encased like Laocoön in the coils of the next chapter of Mismatching Wits, I have taken the liberty of exploring another pony-shaped hole in memespace; one which makes much less demand on my writing skills, one that can be churned out much more quickly, one in which the jokes practically write themselves (and sound like it).

Thanks to a Linux tool called ddrescue, I succeeded in recovering all my important data from my failed hard drive, including all notes for Mismatching Wits. This is good news. (If anyone is interested in learning how I did it, I can post a blow-by-blow / tutorial in another entry.)

In other respects, life has been kicking me in the ankles and punching me in the heart lately, but it's not all one sided and things are looking up a bit. Thus, the creative process has time to reassert itself.

Actually, my system was just slow this morning, then Windows 7 restarted itself and wouldn't come back up, and by tonight the BIOS can only see the drive very sporadically. There is a chance that I may still recover some or all of my data, but I'm not betting on it at this point.
