Princess Twilight has been ruling Equestria for ten years and going strong. During the tax season, she gets an unexpected, but very welcome visitor.

Everything was supposed to be fine. Princess Celestia had given Twilight Sparkle her final test, and anticipated that by its completion, Twilight would join the ranks of the illustrious Alicorns. She was going to be a princess, and would learn the ways of royalty.

And yet, even the best laid plans can be ruined by even the slightest change.

But what if instead of an adult, a mere infant ends up in Equestria? What kind of life might he lead? What will he make of himself? This story may answer that question, and many more.

For every light, there is always a shadow. Imagine if you will, all the monsters that you envision in your dreams and nightmares. Vampires, Lycans, Changelings, Ghosts, Robots. For eons, we have all but considered these beings to not exist. They have always been in the periphery of our minds, always in myth and legend.

But what if I told you that all these things were real?

In a secret world, hidden behind a careful masquerade, guarded faithfully within the tower of Tartarus, these creatures not only exist, but live together in strange harmony with one another.

Welcome to Penumbra, the Shadow of Equestria. Where the sun never shines and the moon glistens in imperishable night. My name is Adam, and I've just become its latest resident.

(This is a sequel to On Light Hooves I Tread 2: Homeward Bound. While reading it is not required, it may help to read that story and the previous one to get a grasp of what's going on. It is also a Crossover with Dungeons: The Dragoning, in a sort.)

It is near the end of the 21st century. For years now, the Human Liberation Front had been battling the alien forces of Equestria, striving to drive them back from whence they came, if not outright destroy them. Finally, in their last hour of greatness, they managed to break through the barrier of Equestria...only to find out that beyond it was a massive wave of alien magics. Humanity had bit the hand that could have fed them, and thus paid the price of near extinction. But, beneath the surface, protected from the thaumatic blast waves, there lived survivors, both Human and Equine, while the native Equestrians worked to make the Earth livable again.

200 years later, the survivors emerge from their tombs, only to find their world has taken rather significant change...

Thomas Curry is a young boy born in 2057. Since birth, the fickle game of birth struck him with the sad fate of paraplegia. For all of his childhood, he's spent his life bound to a wheelchair, his eyes locked to the sky, and his heart and mind going to places he only wish he could go. So, as Equestria continues to encroach upon the planet, and money begins to accumulate in his nuclear family's income, Tommy is faced with a choice: Will he risk life, limb, and legal tender to repair his cursed legs, or will he sacrifice it all and become a pony?

Sometimes, bonds between friends transcend time and space. Following my return home, I (The Author) enjoyed my life as a Human...But, I felt the need to go back and see the friends who I held dear, so I could see them again, and forge a new life for myself in Equestria.

But, though the world has not changed in the slightest, something feels amiss...

December 21, 2012. This date has for long been synonymous with an oncoming apocalypse to which Mankind itself and all of God's creatures will return to where they all came from to live in peace.

What actually happened was an event almost nobody saw coming. In this journal, I aim to tell the story on what happened that day, and what happened since that day.

Be forewarned, however, that not everything that is written in this log was peaceful.

They say that things like Friendship and Love know no boundries. For Pinkie Pie, this became literal, when, after noticing me through a rift in Equestria, she seizes the chance to pass through that fabled Fourth Wall to come see me. Now, I have to endure not only the rigors of returning to my normal Status Quo, but now also the stress that comes from attempting to hide the existence of one hyperactive, sugar-driven, magenta-colored mare!
