The ping of a heart monitor fills your ears as you slowly wake. The only thing you remember from the injury that got you here is that… well okay you can’t remember. That worries you.
Your eyes are still closed and the door to your room opens. A silent gasp graces your ears. The light clip- clop of hooves is headed your direction. Feeling something weigh down the side of the bed, you can only guess who it is.
“I’m here my love” a soft scratchy voice says.
“Dashie?” you groan out opening an eye.
Her cyan face is graced with tear stains. It saddens you to see that. Her beautiful rose eyes are puffy and red and her rainbow mane is unkempt and down. You give her a smile and she returns it, albeit rather sadly.
Quietly you whisper to her “Get up here,” before giving a hand gesture.
Rainbow Dash gladly accepts, immediately jumping onto the bed and laying down on your chest. She gently nuzzles your neck before resting her head right over your heart. The beat relaxes her and she lets out a loving sigh. You wrap an arm around her, holding her tightly against you. Your free hand goes to her mane. Gently you run your fingers through her mane. Dash shivers and wraps her fore-hooves tightly around your chest as you continue to lovingly caress her mane. You savor the moment having her so close to you.
Rainbow suddenly begins to gently sob against you. She nuzzles her head where she hears your heart beating and sobs again. She moves her head to the center of your chest. She gently begins to burrow her muzzle into your chest still sobbing.
You move your hand to her chin and slowly raise her head to meet yours. Tears stream down her face as you look into her eyes. Your heart sinks at the sight. You have never seen her cry before. You take your hand from her mane and gently rest it on her left cheek. Dash leans in to your loving touch fondly. You lean in and gently kiss her forehead.
“I was scared.” She admits to you.
Never would you have thought you would hear that from her. So you ask her what she is afraid of.
Her eyes hold a fear of loneliness in them. You suddenly regret asking her.
“Afraid of losing you,” Dash is on the verge of tears again but she continues “you mean so much to me. I don’t want to be alone. Not again, not ever again. I need you.” You notice the pleading in her voice. She is pouring her soul out to you, so you let her continue. “You have made me the happiest I have ever been. I don’t know what I would do if I lost you. Please don’t ever leave me.” She cries.
Her tears make your heart ache. Gently you pull her from your chest and lay her beside you. Pulling the hospital blanket over the both of you, you both get comfortable. You wrap your arms around Rainbow pulling her close to your chest. Happy to be in your embrace, she rubs her face into your chest.
Moments like these you cherish most. When it is just you and her holding each other close. As you lay there enjoying the intimacy of the moment, your mind begins to wander.
It’s no surprise Dash is this concerned about you, and it warms your heart that she is, but it makes you wonder what kind of injury you have. You hope it’s nothing too serious or life threatening. Images of Dash Alone and crying at your tombstone fill your head. Your chest tightens at the image and your heart aches. Cringing at the thought you shake the image away, as you tighten your embrace around Rainbow.
She responds with a content sigh, raising her head to kiss you gently before resting her head on your pillow. She looks deep into your eyes and leans her forehead against yours. You raise one hand off her, while the other stays around her, to gently cup her soft furry cheek in your hand. She opens one eye as your thumb gently caresses her cheek. Her eye, twinkling with the depths of her love for you, as she leans her head into your touch.
She is always so passionate, so caring, and so loving. And you absolutely love that about her. She can’t sleep unless you’re with her, to hold her, to keep her safe, to be near her. You know that she NEEDS you to be beside her. You know Rainbow will take time off work so she could be with you for your recovery. And you’ll be damned if Rainbow is not allowed to stay after visiting hours. Now that you are thinking about it, Dash does have a history here. Maybe you cou--
Your thoughts are cut off by Rainbow murmuring your name. looking down you notice both of your arms are around her once more, her breathing soft and steady, eyes closed, and smile on her lips. The door to your room is open, but slowly closing thanks to an open window. Looking left there is a bedside table with a note.
Reluctantly you take one arm off Rainbow and slowly, as not to disturb her, reach for the note. Bringing the note in for a close inspection, you see it is from the lavender unicorn, Twilight Sparkle. The note reads:
Dear Mr.Anon
I have talked to the hospital staff about Rainbow staying. And after a longer than it should have been debate, the hospital staff has agreed to let rainbow stay. Oh, and before I forget, you have a broken leg and a minor concussion. You will be in the hospital for about 3 weeks. But look at it this way, at least you will be able to spend plenty of time with Rainbow Dash.
Your’s truly, Twilight Sparkle.
You place the note back on the table and look at the mare in your arms. Placing a hand on her head you gently begin stroking her mane, enjoying the soft and silky feeling of it. She sighs lovingly before whispering your name and nuzzling her head into the crook of your neck. Your heart melts and a smile dons your lips. You lean your head down and gently kiss Dash on the forehead. She sighs once more and whispers your name again. You rest your chin on her head and close your eyes for some sleep.
Through the night you two stayed embraced. Your grip around Dash is tight and never loosening. Your dreams are filled with happiness along the road to recovery and when you wake up in the morning you know you will always have her beside you, every step of the way. That fact alone fills your dreams with comfort and happiness.
Rainbow is smiling in her sleep and so are you. As the moon lowers to bring forth the morning the two of you remained embraced. Even as the sun rises and bathes you two in its warmth you remain sleeping. Dash constantly nuzzles herself closer to you and you subconsciously allow her to do so.
As you wake up you feel your lover nuzzle her head into your neck, sighing contentedly. You smile and rest your chin on her head. You feel content knowing that she seeks your comfort even as she sleeps. You’re not exactly sure why though. Then again Dash did tell you that you could not even begin to understand the depths of her love for you.
It is funny really. Back home every woman you met took your golden heart for granted, but here is a mare who loves you with every fiber of her being. As she lays here by your side you can’t help but feel loved and cared for. Your thoughts are cut short when a nurse comes in to take your blood pressure and temperature.
With her business done she walks out. You are completely baffled as to why she did not ask why Rainbow was in your hospital bed. Though you only shove that to the back of your head and refocus on your mare.
She is still asleep, you are not surprised. Dash will probably be asleep for the next hour or so if nothing wakes her up. She gently wiggles in her sleep, trying to press more of her fuzzy body against you. Her left wing is draped across your body, holding you in a sense. You manage to roll onto your side though the Pegasus snuggling against you is making it hard to do so. Dash groans in displeasure at your movement, she is probably afraid of you getting up to leave her, but once you place your arms around her, she wiggles closer to you and buries her head in your chest. It is almost too much for your heart to take.
The warmth spreading through your heart hurts. Why does Dash have to be so adorable when she sleeps? It might have something to do with the loyalty thing, but you are sure it is her romantic side trying to escape from sleep. All she wants to do when she is alone with you at the house is cuddle and sleep. Dash may not be much of a romantic with you in public, but when you two are alone she is the most loving mare ever. She stays close to you and gives you loving smiles, nuzzles, and gazes. It’s almost as if--
“Hey” you look down and see Rainbows beautiful eyes looking at you.
“What were you thinking about?” she asks tiredly.
“Nothing much, my love” You respond, kissing her forehead.
She yawns and closes her eyes again nestling closer to you. “I love you” she says softly, her head lying next to yours.
You smile and pull her closer to you. Her head nestles under your neck. “I love you, Rainbow” you respond softly.
She giggles and squirms a little in your arms, trying her best to get as close to you as possible. Rainbow wraps her fore-hooves around your neck, giving you a soft squeeze before drifting back to sleep. You may have a long recovery and you may be in pain, but as long as you have Rainbow beside you… you really do not care what life throws at you, just as long as your arms are around her at the end of each day.
The day here in Ponyville hospital has been rather… slow. Dash is beside you and the head aches from your head injury are gone. Granted Dash has been rather clingy since your injury. But that’s okay in your book. Rainbow Dash stretches and yawns immediately after.
“Hey as much as I want to be beside you right now, I really need to do something.”
You chuckle a bit in response.“What? Am I really that boring?” you ask her.
“N-No! I was just going to get a book from the library.” She states matter of factly.
You laugh and kiss her lips, feeling her soft fur tickle your lips. You place your hand in her colorful mane, gently stroking her mane as she deepens the kiss. Savoring the feeling of her body being pressed against yours, a few moments later you break the kiss and look deep into her eyes. A smile adorns her lips and her beautiful rose eyes shine with happiness.
“I will be right back okay?” she says softly as she hops off of the hospital bed.
“I know Dash,” you grasp one of her fore-hooves and look into her eyes, “I love you.”
She leans up and plants a soft kiss on your cheek, “I love you too.”
With that she turns around and walks out of the room. Alone once more you sigh dejectedly and look to your right… just wishing she was there. You know she won’t be gone long, but you can’t help but feel oh so lonely when she is gone. A couple of minutes pass and your heart begins to ache a bit. You clutch your chest and think about her smiling face. It helps.
“I’m back”
You look over and as you expected Rainbow is holding a Daring Do book in her hoof.
“Daring Do: And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Pony?” You ask.
“Yep” Dash replies.
You shiver.
“Oh come on! It’s not that bad.” She says.
You can’t help but shiver again.
Rainbow scoffs before placing the book on the bedside table before hopping back onto the bed with you. She lays her head on the pillow and gets comfortable. You wrap your arms around her once more.
“Would it sound sappy if I said I missed you even though you were only gone ten minutes?” You ask Rainbow.
“Yes. But that is what I love about you.” She says.
You smile and kiss her, soft fur tickling the sensitive nerves of your lips.
She smiles and nuzzles you, her soft cheek rubbing against yours.
Closing your eyes, you focus on the rising and falling of her torso and her breath washing across your face. It makes this moment so very peaceful and beautiful. You give her a gentle squeeze and she sighs.
“I love this.” She says
You chuckle and snuggle closer to her.
“I love it when you hold me”
“I love holding you Dash”
Dash chuckles “When did we get this sappy?”
“A little while after we said our first “I love you”” You respond.
You can’t hold back the smile forming on your face. Her cyan face displays the happiness she feels at the moment. You can’t help but kiss her forehead again. She smiles and kisses your forehead. You reach up and ruffle her mane a bit for that.
She giggles “Knock it off!”
You smile and giggle with her. As you fill the air with the happiness you both feel. You both share a couple of tender kisses adding to the joy of the moment. You can feel the warmth radiating in your heart as she fills the air with her beautiful voice. Rainbow leans her forehead against yours.
“I love you” She says softly.
You look into the eyes of your lover. Her eyes sparkling with the depths of her love for you. You lean in and kiss her lips for a few seconds and say “I love you Rainbow”.
Those three words always warm your heart. There is just something about saying “I love you” that makes your heart fly to new heights. Whether it is the look of joy on Rainbows face or the burst of happiness that fills her eyes as you say those words, but those three magic words mean the world to you and Rainbow Dash.
As Rainbow snuggles against you, you think about how magical the words “I love you” are. When you and Rainbow first shared your first “I love you”, you two were in the privacy of your home. She was trying her best to remain composed and confident and you tried to stop yourself from stuttering.
You managed to say “I love you” without stuttering and she immediately tackled you, nuzzling your neck as she hugged you while assaulting your face with a barrage of kisses. That night the two of you shared your bed the first time, you actually had her resting by your side. It was the first time you had somepony to hold in your arms as you slept. It was the first time you felt a warm body pressed against yours instead of the pillow you used to hold. The first night you felt happy.
You sigh at the fond memory and look at the pony in your arms. Like always she has a smile on her face, her eyes are closed and her breathing serves to relax you. Her beautiful form in your arms makes life worth living. You do not know what you would do without her here beside you. It is quiet moments like these that make you feel content and have purpose in life. You live just for her and that is all you will ever live for.
Rainbow’s breathing soft and steady now. Indicating she has fallen asleep in your arms once again. You lightly chuckle and snuggle closer to your mare. You softly kiss her and close your eyes hoping to dream beside her as you always do. Sleep comes easy to you as you focus on her breathing and nuzzles as she attempts to get closer to you. You drift off, knowing that when you wake up she will be beside you and be there to say how much she loves you.
Today is the best day ever! Today you get out of the hospital. Finally after two weeks of waiting in a bed with Rainbow Dash, not that you are complaining, you finally get to go home and rest in your own bed! Thanks to the healing magic your broken leg has recovered more quickly than the doctors have ever expected. Maybe as a human you are more susceptible to magic, you are not really sure.
Right now you are signing out. You can hardly wait to get out of here.
“Alright you are all set! Have a good day.” Nurse Redheart says.
“I will, you do the same.” You respond giving the good nurse a smile.
You turn and walk out the door and finally feel the summer wind in your hair. As you look around you see several humans and ponies chatting with each other. It is amazing to be outside after being inside for so long. You feel an impact on your back, stumbling forward a bit, as two cyan hooves wrap around your neck. It’s your mare once again. She gives your head a loving nuzzle. You reach your right hand back and ruffle her mane and she giggles before landing beside you.
“I thought you were going to need crutches or something.” She says with a hint of curiosity.
“Well apparently the magic they used wound up fusing the bone back together more quickly than they thought.” You say in response.
“So what are you going to do now?” Rainbow Dash asks.
“Well I was going to go home, sit back, relax, and maybe take a nap … Do you want to join me?”
Rainbow nods her head enthusiastically and grabs a hold of you and speeds towards your house. Geeze if you did not know any better you would say she is more eager than you to sleep in your bed more than you are.
As you approach your home you realize that your leg is running like it was never broken. Magic is as mysterious as it is wonderful. Finally you come to a stop on the front porch of your house. You give Dash a smile and unlock your door and walk in.
Entering your living room, you stop and take a look at the several pictures of you and Dash on the walls. Several are from your time as friends, like the picture in front of the crystal empire you are looking at. But next to that picture is when you first admitted your feelings as you two kiss on the sofa. You are not even sure how the picture happened. You think it has something to do with a certain pink pony though.
“HEY ARE YOU COMING TO NAP OR WHAT!?” Dash shouts from the bedroom.
You chuckle and shout back “HOLD ON MY LOVE, I WILL BE THERE IN A SECOND!” She groans and you can’t help but laugh. A few seconds later you enter your room and step out of your work pants and slip into some shorts before joining your mare.
“Could you hold me?” She asks.
You get a huge grin and wrap your arms around her. You lean in kiss her lips, the soft fur tickling your lips as she returns the kiss with a fiery passion. A few moments of bliss later you break the kiss and whisper to her “You don’t even have to ask.” She leans her head against yours and slides a hind leg between your legs trying to get as close as she possibly can to you. She drapes a wing over you and presses her chest to yours. You smile and tighten your grip around her, letting her feel even more secure in your arms.
She moans softly and gives you a kiss, her way of saying thank you.
“Better?” you ask her.
“Better.”
You both lay there in silence. Focusing on the beating of her heart and breathing. Diving deeper into the serenity of the moment, Rainbow looks so peaceful… so beautiful… You sigh and wonder how such a wonderful mare came into your life. All you know is that she loves you, that you are the one she wanted to wake up and be the first thing to see beside her is your face. She is so very affectionate when she is with you. You and her are both romantics when in the privacy of your home. You both prefer to speak through actions than words. Words just do not have the same effect as actions or gestures.
You smile when she whispers your name and tries to nuzzle herself closer to you. Her head finds itself resting beneath your chin. A feeling of warmth flows through your heart and intensifies the more you focus on her breathing.
Rainbow rolls onto her other side, her back pressing against your chest. You smile and move in to kiss her behind her ear. As your lips come into contact with the soft fur of her ear, her hoof grabs a hold of your left hand and moves it up to her chest coming to rest over her heart. Feeling every loving beat under your palm.
You spend the rest of the time awake just focusing the beat of her heart. Letting it pull you into the land of dreams. The more you focus on it the more heavy your eye lids become, add in the fact you are at home and are resting in your comfortable bed, you drift on to a slumber resting beside the mare of your dreams. As you two continue to snooze you continue to hold her tight, never moving your left hand away from her beating heart. It keeps you from waking up and fills your dreams with Rainbows beautiful face. Her eyes shining and her gorgeous smile showing the happiness she feels, and honestly her happiness is all that matters to you. Rainbow Dash has certainly improved your life for the better. All you can feel is the beating of her loving heart as you sleep.
You awake from your peaceful slumber and give out a small yawn. Rubbing your eyes you take notice that your hand is still resting over Rainbows heart, its beating relaxing you. You look left at the clock on your bedside table, it’s 4:30 PM… 4:30!!! Goodness you slept for nearly three hours. You look to the Pegasus in your arms and get an idea.
Slowly you crawl out of your bed and stand, stretching slightly. You give a glance at the Pegasus and run a hand through her mane. A smile dawns her lips, a smile dawns your face as well. Turning around you walk into the hallway and turn to your left. Walking into the living room, you turn right and finally reach your destination, the kitchen.
You pull open the refrigerator and pull out some fish for you and a head of lettuce for your mare. Fish is the only meat readily available for humans in ponyville, you are thankful for that. Placing a pan on the stove you prepare to seer the fish by running the meat under running water to clean it. Turning on the stove you wait for the pan to heat up, as you begin to cut the head of lettuce in preparation for a salad for Rainbow.
With the pan heated you place the fish in the pan and season it with some black pepper. Turning your attention back to Rainbows food you pull out some tomatoes and cucumbers and begin to cut them. You may not be the best when it comes to a vegetarian dish, at best all you can do is a simple salad, but it makes her happy. Within moments the salad is finished and about 10 minutes later the fish is done as well.
Going into the living room, you sit down on the couch and wait. A few minutes later you hear the sound of hoofs coming down the hall, Dash is awake. “Hey there Dash. Did you sleep well?”
She walks over to the couch and lies down in your lap.
“Yeah, thanks to you.” She says with a small smile, rubbing her head against your chest.
“Come on, I got dinner ready.”
She nods and jumps off of you then makes her way to the table. You go to the kitchen and grab the salad and fish for yourself and place them on the dining room table. Dash sees the fish and does not even give a reaction. You remember when she told you she had a griffon friend and from what you read they had an appetite for meat.
You both just sit and look into the others eyes for a while before digging in. Dash bites into the salad and looks at you. “It’s good, but could use a little more fruit next time.” all you can do is smile and nod to her.
“I’ll try to make it to your standards next time.” You give her a chuckle.
She smiles and returns to her meal. Your eyes never leave her. Dash looks up at you noticing your stare.
“What?” She asks.
“You’re just so beautiful.” You say reaching out a hand to grasp her hoof. “I don’t know what I would do without you in my life.” Her eyes sparkle with love. “You have brought me so much joy that I can’t even remember the last time I was so happy.”
You know this came out of nowhere, but you felt it was something that needed to be said to your mare. She gets off her seat and trots over to embrace you wrapping her hooves around you. You wrap your arms around her in response. Enjoying the feeling of closeness and peace her embrace brings. Pulling back you both return to your meals. You both sit in silence for a while after that, until Dash breaks the silence.
“Thank you.” She says.
“For what?” You ask.
“For being so sweet and loving,” She says. “I have never felt so beautiful in my life, I was afraid I would never find sompony to love… until I found you.” She sniffles a bit and continues “There were nights I stayed awake just wishing I could be held by somepony who loves me.” You get up and walk to her and take Dash into your arms of love “And now that I have you… I no longer have to do that.”
“No, no you don’t”
She nuzzles you and softly whispers “You make me so happy.”
You kiss her forehead “Now how about we save these kinds of talks for when there is not any food.”
She giggles “You started it.” She says sticking out her tongue.
“I did.” You say with a smirk.
The two of you continue eat on in silence. Basking in each-others presence as you do.
“Hey Dash?”
“Yeah?”
“When did you get so sappy?”
She smiles and says “A couple days after moving in with you. I just wanted to act that way around you. You seem to enjoy it as much as I do.”
You chuckle and give her a nod. To be honest Dash may seem a bit out of her character when she is alone with you, but you would not have it any other way. You enjoy how protective, loving, and caring she is. Heck you thought Dash would have lectured you for getting hurt at work. Instead she got emotional… wow she must love you a lot to come in crying. Or it may have something to do with her limited knowledge on the human body.
Your fork hits the plate looking down you notice that your plate is empty. Dash is already in the kitchen putting her plate in the sink. Getting up from the table, you make your way to the kitchen and put your plate in the sink. Shortly thereafter you and Dash cuddle on the couch. She rests her head under your chin, her wings wrapping around both sides of your body, her right fore-hoof resting over your heart. Your arms wrapped tightly around her.
Closing your eyes you let the feeling of closeness pull you to sleep.
Today Is a very special day. Today is hearts and hooves day in ponyville. You have had a hard time hiding a special gift that you designed with Rarity. A ruby, sapphire, lemon quartz and diamond encrusted necklace pendant of Rainbows cutie mark. Rarity supplied the gemstones while a friend of hers supplied the pendant.
Rainbow has been rather curious as to why you have been spending so much time with Rarity. Though you have told her time and time again she has nothing to worry about, but she still remains suspicious.
Rarity is meeting you in the park today to deliver the finished necklace and you are being extra careful in case a certain blue pegasus is following you. Making your way to the park you keep your eyes in the sky constantly. Luckily there is no sign of Rainbow. You see Rarity Laying on a blanket under a shady tree. She sees you and waves as you start walking towards her.
“Did you get it?”
“Why of course my dear.” She says pulling out a small box.
Opening the small box you immediately gaze upon the brilliant pendant and smile.
“She is going to love this.” You say to Rarity.
“Well of course she is darling. The fact it’s coming from you will make it all the more special to her.”
“You really think so?”
Rarity nods in response.
“Thank you for your help Rarity.”
“Your welcome.” She gives you a friendly hug.
“Sorry to cut this short, but I have to fix a candle light dinner tonight.”
“Well you better hurry on home it is almost sundown.”
You nod and give her your thanks once more before turning and walking away. On your way home you could not help but think about tonight. Dash wanted a little more fruit in her salad the last time you made dinner, this time you will make Dash the perfect salad.Reaching your front door you push it open and notice Dash is not home yet. It saddens you a little but you have to make a nice dinner. You’re not in the mood for fish tonight so you will make a salad for yourself as well.
Opening the fridge you pull out a head of lettuce, a tomato, cucumber, and strawberries. You immediately begin cutting the lettuce and in a matter of seconds you have diced lettuce. Pulling the tomato over, you cut it thinly making sure you have equal portions. Once that's done you begin to chop the cucumber thin as well. You only use half of the cucumber so you put the other half back into the fridge. You Work on the strawberries next dicing them into cubes.
Dash suddenly walks through the front door.
“Hey there big guy.” Dash says.
Stopping your knife work you make your way to her and give her a big hug.
“How’s my mare doing?”
“I’m a little tired. How about you?”
You give Dash a smile and say “ I am making dinner.”
You make your way back to the kitchen and begin to bowl the salads. You crumble a bit of blue cheese on yours.
“Hey Dash want any blue cheese on your salad?”
“Yes please.”
You crumble some cheese onto her salad and bring your bowls to the table.
You both eat in silence as you just simply enjoy each others company.
“Hey Dash.”
“Yeah?”
“You know I love you.” You Say.
“And I Love You…”
“So what would you say to this?” You ask pulling out the small box and opening it.
Rainbows eyes widen when she sees the pendant. “T-thats my…”
“Happy Hearts and hooves day my love.” You say placing the necklace around her.
Her lips are pressed to yours affectionately. She prolongs the kiss by wrapping her hooves around you, you return her passion and wrap your arms around her. She is acting like this is the last kiss she will ever have with you… and you love it.
She breaks the kiss and says “This must have cost you a fortune… should I pay you back?”
You smile and kiss her forehead. “That kiss was more than enough payment.”
“How did you even afford a custom pendant like this?... Did Rarity have some part in this?”
You smile.
“Well she did supply the gems and paid for half the pendant, I said I would pay for it but she insisted she pay for half of it.”
Rainbow kisses you once more. “I only wish I had something to give you” Dashies ears fall.
Placing a hand on her cheek, you look directly into her eyes.
“Don’t worry about it. I am happy you like your present. That’s all that matters. Remember today is about you Rainbow.”
She nuzzles you. “You spoil me… what did I do to deserve you?”
You chuckle.
“You were Rainbow Dash, the mare of my dreams, the love of my life. The mare that makes everyday worth living… Dash without you I would probably still be depressed. You Gave me hope when I had none… and now you give the love I never thought I would get. I love you so much.”
Tears stream down your face and you clutch Dash tighter. Dash has her head in your chest silently weeping into it. She feels so protected… so loved. You both remained embraced for awhile, just enjoying the closeness and warmth in your hearts.
“I love you so much Dash.”
“Please… Don’t ever leave me.”
By this point your meals are forgotten. You two simply call it a night and go to bed.
You slide in and close the gap between you and your mare. Your arms are wrapped tightly around her, her hooves rest against her chest and her wings are draped around you. You give Rainbow another kiss before you each say your good nights. Through the night Rainbow had a grin on her face. Rainbow Dash feels more loved than any other mare tonight. Her dreams are filled with the two of you running and playing in a field of roses. You eventually tackle her and she giggles having the time of her life. Tonight was a very special night for the beautiful mare.
You have always thought that sleep ends too quickly. The dawn comes and whisks you awake, taking you away from sleeps peaceful embrace. You open your eyes and groan, hiding your face away from the suns rays in Rainbow’s mane. You hold her tighter, sighing as you start to fall back asleep. You remain asleep for the next thirty minutes before once again waking up. This time, you let out a yawn and stretch. You go to get out of bed, when you suddenly realize you can’t move.
Dash is holding you tight against her, who knew she could be this strong even while sleeping. Once again you try to move and you somewhat successfully get out before being pulled back to the bed by her strong fore-legs. Rainbow Dash sighs and nuzzles her face into your chest. This makes you realize that you are not going anywhere.
You sigh in defeat and snuggle closer to Dash, making her smile. You slowly fall back asleep. Another thirty minutes later and you awake to a smiling Rainbow Dash. Her hoof gently caressing your cheek. You raise your right hand up to her hoof and hold it, enjoying the feeling of her gentle caress.
“Good Morning” She says softly.
“Morning Love” You Respond.
She smiles at you and snuggles closer to you. Rainbow Dash sighs contently, pressing as much of her body as she can against you. Your arms hold her firmly against you.
“I want to stay like this forever” Rainbow whispers.
You smile and kiss her forehead.
“I do too, but as much as I would like t-” Dash presses her hoof to your mouth.
“Nope I am staying right here with you. We are spending the day in bed.” she smiles at you then looks at the clock on your wall. “Besides, Ponyville is supposed to get rain in an hour. And what better way is there, than to spend a rainy day with naps and pillow talk?”
… Can’t argue with the mares logic. You sit up and stretch before reaching over to your nightstand and pulling out the weather schedule. Today is Wednesday… looking over the schedule you notice that rain is scheduled all day. The rain starts at noon today and ends at seven in the morning tomorrow… crap. You sigh sadly. Rainbow notices this and slides closer to you.
“Hey, what’s wrong big guy?” She asks as she wraps you in a hug. Resting her chest on your back while her head finds its place on your left shoulder. You gently begin rubbing her neck and turn your head left to gently kiss her cheek.
“It’s Nothing. I’m just a bit bummed out about the weather.” It’s true, rainy days seem to make you sad. Dash can’t go out and fly because the water will wet the feathers of her wings. You look out your window and see the weather ponies moving the clouds to set up for the rain. You sigh sadly once again. Dash nuzzles you, trying her best to make you feel better.
“Why aren’t you sad Dash? Don’t you wanna fly today?” She smirks at this.
“I can’t, remember? Sure I do feel a little down about that, but I feel better because I get to spend my whole day as close to you as possible.” You smile, even when you are sad Dash has a way of warming your heart.
“Come on, I want to hold you.” Dash whispers before pulling you onto the bed. She wraps her fore-hooves around your neck and drapes a wing around you. Dash slides her hind-leg between yours and swishes her tail until all of the silky strands cover your legs.
Rainbow sighs and says “This is the life. Just me laying next to my special somepony.”
“Indeed.” Is all you can say as you take Rainbows warm and fuzzy body into your arms. The rain starts to fall. You frown and Dash kisses you, hoping that the kiss will take your mind off the rain. You return the kiss, pressing your lips to hers. You raise your right hand to her mane, gently running your fingers through it. Dash shudders and pulls you in deeper. You pull away from the kiss and smile at Rainbow.
“Did that help?” Dash asks with a cute smile.
“More than you know.” You say smiling back at her. You gently kiss her forehead and her smile widens.
“I love you.” Dash whispers as she looks affectionately into your eyes.
You pull her into hug and hold her tightly against you. Not wanting to let her go. Rainbow Dash nuzzles her head into your neck. You release the hug and slide closer to her. You look outside once more and sigh. Then your gaze falls upon Rainbows beautiful face. You smile.
“Have I ever told you how beautiful you are Dash?” You ask.
She smiles and nuzzles you, rubbing her soft cheek against yours.
“Everyday, but I never get tired of hearing it” She says.
Your heart warms at her words. You gaze into her eyes, and you never look away. Her eyes, so captivating, expressive, and beautiful. You two both lean in for a kiss, your lips meeting hers. “I love you.” she says, Dash instantly goes in for another kiss. Dash kisses you constantly, each kiss followed by an “I love you.”. Your heart is nothing but a puddle. Eventually she stops. Rainbow lets out an adorable yawn.
“So you get tired during rainy weather like me.” you say, gently scratching her behind an ear.
Rainbow Dash only nods and lays her head on your chest. She almost falls asleep before she remembers something.
“What had you so sad today anyways?” You jump.
Dash giggles “Oh come on! How do you get scared by a question?” You roll your eyes, you thought she was asleep.
“I feel a little bummed because I wanted to go out and look at the stars with you tonight.”
Rainbow smiles at you.
“Don’t Worry, we’re together now right?”
You nod.
“So just enjoy what we’re doing now. Okay? No sad eyes.”
You Smile and close your eyes as you both let this rainy day pass in each-others loving embrace.
Lunch time, your favorite time of day. Rainbow is standing beside you, watching curiously as you pull out two cloves of garlic and shallots. walking over to a cabinet you pull out some olive oil. Rainbow taps you on the shoulder.
“What are you making?” She asks.
“Well I was planning on making us a fondue.”
“Sounds good, but what do you plan on doing with that?” She points to the olive oil.
“Well Dash, while I smash my garlic and dice the shallots, the olive oil is gonna let the sauce pan get hot.” Rainbow nods her head in understanding.
Reaching into another cabinet you pull out a sauce pan. Next you set the temperature to medium heat and put in your olive oil. While the pan gets hot you pull out your trusty chef’s knife and place the garlic on the cutting board. Rainbow watches you intently, noticing the smile on your face as you prep. Turning your knife on its side, smash the garlic with your knife. Doing the same thing to the other clove.
“Now I will just run my knife through the garlic for a quick mince.” you mutter to yourself. You do just that running your knife through the smashed garlic to mince it. You look up at Dash, noticing your mare watching you. Her ears are laid back and she has an anxious expression her face.
“Something wrong dear?” You ask as you put your minced garlic in a small bowl.
“How come you have so much fun doing something as mundane as cooking? I feel like I am missing out on some fun every time I watch you.”
You think about her question as you begin mincing your shallots.
“Well Dash, I have fun because it is something I love to do. Cooking does not have to be mundane. You can try new things, experiment, and feed the ones you love.” You say as you smile at her.
Looking over at the sauce pan, you see the oil is letting off some steam. You toss in your minced shallots and garlic and enjoy the sizzling sound. Next you reach into your cabinet and pull out some white wine vinegar. You pour in the vinegar until it just covers the shallots and garlic.
“Wanna help me out Dash?” She nods eagerly.
“ I want you to choose the cheese or cheeses we use in this fondue and grate it.” You smile at your mare.
“Okay.” She hovers over to your fridge and pulls out some Havarti and Mozzarella.
“… Interesting combination Dash.” She frowns and you realize it come out the wrong way.
“Dash I was not saying it’s a bad combination, I mean it is a combination I would not have thought of using.” She smiles and nuzzles you.
As Dash grates the cheese you add the heavy cream, measuring out about four cups of the creamy happiness. You walk over to Dash and smile at her.
“You know I never would have thought you would ever want to help cook.” You say to her.
“What can I say? You have fun cooking so I figured I could too.” You can’t help but smile at her answer.
You kiss her cheek and ruffle her mane then go back over and add a pinch of kosher salt to the heavy cream.
Five minutes later Dash is done grating the havarti and mozzarella cheese.
“Dash I want you to gradually add in the cheese as I whisk okay?” Rainbow nods in understanding. She adds the cheese slowly as you whisk the heavy cream. With the cheese added you continue to whisk letting the creamy mixture thicken.
“You wanna try?” You ask.
“Sure.” You smile and stand to the right to let Dash whisk.
As she whisks, you can’t help but smile. Dash is taking your passion and making it her own. You watch as she lifts the whisk out of the pan and smiles as the thick cheesy fondue cascades back down into the pan.
“Dash what I am going to do next is cube some bread and bake it in the oven at four-hundred-fifty degrees.”
“Why?” She asks.
“I don’t think you would want to eat fondue with a spoon.” You respond.
“Good Point.”
Five minutes later you are done with the bread and it is in the oven. The fondue is done and you and Dash are laying on the couch, her back pressed to your chest as you two rest.
“I am not gonna lie Dash you did a great job.”
“Oh come on, you did most of the work.”
You lean in and kiss her behind her ear.
“Did you have fun?” You ask her.
“A little, I still have no idea how you have so much fun cooking.” She says.
You chuckle and smile. Dash was never the type for cooking, but the fact she tried today warms your heart. It means a lot that she was willing to go at it because you make cooking look fun.
“Well at least you tried.” You say to her.
The timer on the oven goes off and you walk over and pull out the bread.
“Now that is toasted happiness.” You say making Dash giggle and shake her head.
You put the bread on a plate and place it on the table.
Rainbow dips some bread into the fondue and takes a bite. You smile when you see her eyes widen at the flavors. Dash swallows her mouth full and stares wide eyed.
“OH MY CELESTIA THAT’S GOOD!” You smile at her reaction. “Where did you learn to make this?”
“Lot’s of trial and error Rainbow.” you say as you dip a piece of bread into the fondue. As soon as the bread hits your mouth the sweetness of the white wine vinegar and the richness of the cheesy concoction sends your taste-buds into overdrive.
You two are so focused on the fondue that before you know it you’re down to the last piece of bread. You dip it into the fondue and look at Dash.
“Open.” Is all you say to her.
Rainbow opens her mouth and you feed her the last piece. She chews it and swallows.
“That was so good.” Is all she says before hugging you.
You break the hug and sigh.
“I hate this part.” Dash gives you a questioning look. “It’s time to do the dishes.”
Fall is in the air and you couldn’t be sadder. Though the running of the leaves was fun to watch you can’t help but note the weather is cold, wet, pretty much the same as on earth. After cleaning and putting away the dishes, you put some fresh wood in the fireplace. You notice your mare staring outside your window thinking. You walk up to her and place a hand on her head to get her attention. She looks up at you then returns her stare outside and sighs.
“What’s on your mind?” You ask.
“It’s Tank.” She says sadly.
“What about him?”
“Every winter he has to hibernate.”
“Dash it’s fall you do not have to worry about that yet.” You say.
“I know but… Why does he have to sleep? Why can’t he stay with me?” Dash asks you.
You think carefully before answering.
“Dash you got a tortoise for a pet. He can either sleep for the winter and be warm, or he can die while being with us for the winter.” She shoots you an angry glare. “Don’t give me that look Dash, you know I’m right.”
Her expression softens and she sighs sadly. “I know.” You rub her back trying to comfort your mare. “That doesn’t mean I can’t worry about him though.”
You kneel down to her level and look deep into her eyes. Cupping her cheek in your palm, you lean in and kiss her gently on the lips. “You can be worried all you want, but just remember that I will be with you all winter… Alright?”
She looks into your eyes and smiles at you, leaning in to gently kiss your cheek. You wrap your arms around her and hold her tightly against your chest.
“You said you would be with me all winter… Does that mean we can go sledding and have snow ball fights?” Rainbow asks with her muzzle buried in your chest.
You look down at her and kiss her forehead. “Of course it does Rainbow Dash.”
She smiles and releases the hug.
You give her mane a quick ruffle and she giggles.
“How about we go take a nap.” She says with a cute yawn.
You smile at her, pick her up, and carry her like the princess she is. Giggling wildly against you as she nuzzles her head into the crook of your neck and closes her eyes. taking delight of every moment she is in your arms. The world around you slows as you continue to carry the little pony to your bed. You delight in the feeling of having her warm body pressed against your chest and how soft her fur is against your palms.
Walking Into your bedroom, you gently lay her down on the bed. Her hooves grab hold of your arm and instinctively pull you towards her. You both get under the covers and snuggle up to each other. Your arm pulls her close to your chest as her hooves wrap around your neck.
“How about we try something new Dash.”
“Like what?”
“Roll over and I’ll show you.”
She looks at you with a curious expression, but does as you ask. Rolling onto her other side so her back is pressed to your stomach. With your arm wrapped around her you move your hand from her chest to her stomach. You begin to gently caress her little tummy with loving motions. Hearing Rainbow sigh makes you smile.
“Oooh, that feels so good.” she says breathlessly.
You smile and gently kiss her behind her ear, making it twitch in a cute fashion.
You continue your caressing marveling how soft her fur is against your palms. Changing your caress from small strokes to rubbing in small circles makes Rainbow shiver. You love every sigh she releases. Eventually the sighs turn to quiet breaths as your loving motions lull her to sleep.
As you continue rubbing, you lean your head close to her ear and whisper. “Are you getting sleepy hon?”
Rainbow Dash gently nods.
“Well go on to sleep my love. I’ll be right beside you when you awake.”
Rainbow chuckles at how corny that line was, but feels the sincerity in your voice. She slowly falls into sleeps welcoming embrace as you continue to rub her tummy.
The warmth radiating from her body makes your eyes heavy, closing your eyes you gently fall asleep next to the love of your life.
A few hours later you wake up and feel a hoof against your hand gently moving it in circles. Your groggy mind is trying to put the pieces together. Rainbow has her hoof against your hand and is gently moving it in circles…
“Rainbow are you giving yourself a belly rub?”
Hearing your question she stops for just a split second before continuing.
“Yeah…” You can’t help it, a tired laugh leaves your mouth.
“What?” Rainbow asks you with a small pout. “It feels good.”
Your gently grasp her hoof and stop her. A small whimper leaves her throat, but once you go back to rubbing her belly she stiffens then relaxes.
“It feels so much better when you do it.” She says.
“I have no doubt.” you say, as your caressing continues. This time Rainbow is letting out gentle moans, her tail swishing from the loving attention you are giving her.
“Goodness Rainbow do you like belly rubs that much?”
She blushes. “Shut up and rub my tummy.”
You chuckle and stop.
“What are you doing?”
You smirk at her. “I think I should stop, you obviously don’t like me rubbing your belly.”
“WHAT!?” She shouts
“You see? You’re yelling because you’re upset that I rubbed your belly.”
“I’M YELLING BECAUSE YOU-” You cut her off with a kiss planted directly on her lips. You break the kiss and place your hand on her belly again and gently begin to rub up and down.
She gives a sigh of content.
“Sorry hon, I couldn’t resist messing with you.”
“Yeah well… Just don’t be so serious next time you do.”
You blink, surprised at the sadness in her voice. Then you catch the smirk on her face. You chuckle and pull her closer to you.
Today is another lazy day. You’ve got nothing to do and Dash is tired. The work-load today really got her sore. You feel bad for her, she should not be in this much pain. You get up off the couch and walk into your room where Dash is napping the pain away.
You climb in and snuggle up to her wrapping your arms around her like you usually do. Unfortunately Dash wakes up and yelps in pain.
“Oh gosh I am so sorry Dashie, I didn’t hurt you too bad did I?”
“No not too badly, but enough to wake me up.”
“I’m so sorry Dashie. Do you want me to let go of you?”
“You better not. Just don’t hold me too tight okay?”
“ Alright… You want me to rub your belly?”
She giggles. “Sure.”
You begin to caress your mare’s stomach. rubbing her soft, velvety fur. You chuckle and smile. Even when she is sore she can’t help but indulge in your touch. Her sighs are music to your ears.
“Is this helping any Dashie?”
“No. How about you rub my shoulders? They hurt the most.”
“Alright.” She rolls over so she is resting on her stomach.
Being mindful of her wings you straddle her back. Placing your hands on her shoulders you gently begin to rub in small circles, trying your best to get the tension out of her sore body. Dash sighs as your hands knead away the pain. You smile and continue to gently rub, feeling the tense muscles relax as your hands tenderly attend to her.
“So how was work?” You say as you continue to caress her shoulders.
“Well I was the only one who showed up today.”
You nod your head.
“So I had to get all the snow ready for hearths warming in Ponyville… It wasn’t easy. Everypony was with their families because I gave them the day off.” You stop rubbing. Dash looks back at you.
“Why did you stop?”
“I’m just trying to understand why you did that. You knew you would have to do all the work on your own.” You say.
“About a year ago I tried and failed to stop winter from coming.”
“Really? I haven’t heard about that.” A realization hits you. “You feel like you have a debt to pay.” Rainbow nods her head.
“I felt like if I could do the work on my own, I could put that behind me. Instead I feel tired and sore.”
“Dash, you didn’t have to do that. Though I am sure your employees are grateful for the day off, they wouldn’t want their boss to over exert herself like she did today.” You see her smirk.
“Can I ask you one thing?” She says.
“Anything.”
“Can I shower? I didn’t get a chance to after I got home.”
You chuckle.
“A nice warm shower may be just what you need.”
You carefully pick her up and gently rest her against your chest. Being careful not to jostle her around too much, you carry her to the bathroom and get the shower running. With the warm water running, you place Dash in the shower and prepare to leave before Dash latches onto your arm.
“Something wrong hon?”
“Would you mind washing my mane for me?” She asks as she hands you a bottle of shampoo.
You look into her shimmering eyes. You take the bottle and open it. Pouring a dollop in your hands, you place them in Dashies luxurious mane. She smiles and sigh contently as you softly massage her scalp. You smile and continue to caress her soft mane. Her smiling face makes your heart leap with joy. You continue to lather the suds into her mane, being sure you get behind her ears as well. She giggles and places her head under the running water.
“I’ll go get the fire started while you finish.”
“Alright, I’ll be right out!”
You smile and get up, walking into your living room and tossing some wood and tinder in the fireplace before lighting and watching the fire. Turning around you see her. Wet mane drooping over one eye. Your breath catches in your throat as you see her, She is giving you a half lidded gaze.
“Oh. My. God.”
Dash giggles at your remark and trots over to to you. Her wet cyan fur glowing in the gentle light of the fireplace. You shake your head, clearing your head.
“Dash, did I not leave you a towel?”
She giggles. “You did, I Just wanted to see your reaction to my wet mane.”
You chuckle, “It looks absolutely fantastic, but you left a huge trail of water.”
You get up and walk into the bathroom, grabbing the towel you begin to dry the floor. Making your way to the living room, you find Dash staring into the fire.
“Something wrong Dash?”
Rainbow shakes her head.
“Are you sure?”
Rainbow nods.
Walking back into the bathroom, you throw the towel into the hamper and get a fresh one out of the closet. You walk back into the living room and kneel down beside Dash. You place the towel around her and gently begin to rub, starting with her fore-legs and back, then to her chest and stomach. You pull the towel away and embrace her.
“What? Not gonna dry my mane?” she whispers into your ear.
You respond with a simple “Shh.”
“I guess that means you like-”
“Shh.”
Rainbow Dash giggles and nuzzles you.
You two remain embraced, only listening to the fire and the occasional crack of the burning wood. Rainbow breaks the hug and gives you a gentle kiss, the fur on her lips tickling your own. As the two of you remain lip locked, the fire seems to brighten. Seemingly responding to the fire in your hearts. You pull away and look deep into Rainbow’s eyes. You lean your forehead against hers.
“So, how about we go take a nap?” Rainbow suggests.
“How about I make my mare a nice salad to eat?”
“Or you can do that. Food’s good too.”
You chuckle and get up, you make your way to the kitchen and get out your knife and a head of lettuce.
You are currently in the kitchen, making the last of the sandwiches for your moon light picnic out in ponyville park. You made simple sandwiches for Dash. Daffodil and Daisy sandwiches for her. You went a little overboard with yours, spinach, feta cheese, pickled red onions and a little mint. Your sandwiches are a little greek to say the least.
“I’m ready for our date night… Are you done now?” Rainbow asks impatiently.
You chuckle and shake your head.
“Rainbow, in order to achieve perfection with a sandwich you must take your time, treat it right.”
She gives you a blank stare.
“... You’re kidding right?”
All you can do is laugh and ruffle her mane. She pouts and snorts.
“I’m almost done Dash, just give me a few more seconds.”
You grab the bread and slice it in half. You lay a layer of spinach evenly on the bread. Next up your pickled red onions you lay them in an even layer as well. You grab the mint and lay them down on top of your red onions. The finishing touch, feta cheese. You top your sandwich off with the top of your bread and slice diagonally. You open up the sandwich and show Dash.
“This is what happens when you take your time.” you point to the layers.
She rolls her eyes but smiles.
You place the sandwiches in the basket and grab a blanket and a coat.
“You ready to go?” You ask.
“I’ve only been ready for the past ten minutes.”
You chuckle and open the door.
“Ladies first.”
Rainbow walks out and stretches a bit. You close the door and walk up beside her. She looks up at you and smiles. You begin to walk with her, she leans against you as you do. The two of you don’t talk, only listening to the sound of the wind as you walk. Eventually you make it to ponyville park, you go to the top of a hill and lay out the blanket. Rainbow grabs a few large stones to use as a weight for the blanket. You smile and open up the basket. Rainbow looks expectantly at you. You reach in and pull out her food.
“Your sandwich my dear.”
“Thanks!” she immediately unwraps it and takes a bite. She smiles and slightly moans.
“It’s perfect.”
You smile and give her a hug. Rainbow leans into you, Resting her head against your chest. You give her forehead a little kiss and break the hug. You reach into the basket and pull out your sandwich. You look at it and smile, admiring your work. The layers of the sandwich easily visible.
Rainbow looks at you and quirks an eyebrow.
“Aren’t you going to eat?”
“I… I don’t think I can…”
“Why?”
“Because it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen… It’s almost… hypnotizing.”
Rainbow’s right eye twitches and a scowl crosses her face.
“WHAT!?”
You Immediately burst out laughing. Rainbow looks at you with a frown.
“Oh jeeze, you should have seen the look on your face.”
She gives your left arm a sharp punch.
“OW! That actually hurt.”
“Hmph! That’s what you get. Saying a sandwich is more beautiful than me, come on. There is no way that is true.”
“Of course it’s not true.”
She giggles and smiles at you she puts down her sandwich and scoots closer to you. Rainbow wraps her hooves around your neck, pulling you into a tight embrace. She sighs happily, whispering into your ear, “I love you.”
“I love you too, Rainbow.” You whisper back.
She pulls back and kisses you, the soft fur on her lips tickles. You run you fingers through her mane, making rainbow shiver with delight. She presses her lips more firmly against yours deepening the kiss. She softly moans and her tail swishes. She breaks the kiss and blushes deeply.
“Rainb-” You are cut off by the mare, tackling you onto your back.
She looks down at you, giving you the most loving smile you have ever seen. You are completely entranced by this mare. As you look up at her the moon shines brightly behind her, making her glow and appear almost like a godess. Your mouth goes dry and you struggle to find the words to tell her how beautiful she is right now.
Rainbow giggles and lays down on top of you. She peppers your face with several kisses.
“So… How does that sandwich compare to me?”
“... It has nothing on you.”
She giggles and kisses you deeply, you press your lips back into hers. Her wings wrap around you. You are in heaven, the mare that you love, is simply showering you with her affections.
You break the kiss and smile.
“You are the most beautiful mare in Equestria.”
She blushes and smiles she leans her head down to yours once more and gives your lips a quick kiss.
“Hey Rainbow?”
“Yeah?”
“Can I please eat my sandwich now?”
She giggles and shakes her head.
“Just hold me for a little while. Then you can eat your sandwich.”
You chuckle and wrap your arms around her, you pull her close and turn on your side. You Kiss her forehead and let her snuggle right up to you. You look over at the basket and give a little chuckle. You weren’t even that hungry. You were just doing this for Dash. Rainbow sighs and looks up at you.
“You know, you make me feel even more beautiful than the princesses.” Rainbow says softly.
“I didn’t know that.”
She kisses your cheek, “Well now you do.”
You chuckle and pull her even closer.
“I honestly think you are more beautiful than the princesses. Celestia doesn’t even hold a candle to you.”
“How about Princess Luna?”
“Nope.”
Rainbow giggles and kisses your lips once more. You never get tired of that.
You break the kiss and get up and stretch, Rainbow does the same.
“Its getting late, Lets pack up and go home, Rainbow.”
She giggles and nods. You fold the blanket and put it in the basket along with your un-touched sandwich. On the bright side, you have lunch for tomorrow. The walk home was spent in silence once again, the two of you just enjoying the others presence, having the most important mare in the world at your side is what you live for. You only live for Rainbow Dash.
“Can I help you?” you shake your head and turn to the shops pony looking at her, Blushing deeply you try to hide how anxious you really are. You decided last week that you were going to pop the question.
Taking a deep breath, you run your hands through your hair and look her in the eyes. “I’m interested in purchasing and engagement ring.” You see her eyes light up.
“And who’s the lucky mare?” she asks almost teasing you. Noticing the blush she giggles. “Now is this going to be for a pegasi or a unicorn? I have to know so I can get you the proper one.”
You take a deep breath, trying to calm your nerves. I’m actually going through with this… why am I so nervous? I love Dash with all my heart… So why can't I help but feel scared? You shake that thought away as you look at the mare behind the counter. “It’s for a pegasus.”
The mare nods, “Follow me sir.” You nod and follow her to the other side of the small shop and look through the display case, several rings made of gold, silver, and even onyx shine bright in the lights. Noticing the prices you are sort of… shocked. These rings are actually affordable. The mare picks up on your perplexed expression. “What’s wrong, nothing here she would like?” you look up at her and shake your head, giving her a soft smile.
“It’s nothing like that,” you say “it has more to do with the affordability of these rings. I mean, back on earth, you would sink half of your savings on a diamond.” The mare nods.
“Well, Pegasi rings can’t really have any fancy gemstones on them.” you look up from the case, “since the ring goes on her right primary feather, we decided the best way to not have it agitate flight so much is to craft the ring from the stone itself.” you quirk an eyebrow.
“Is this normal around Equestria?” you ask.
“Yes it is, though styles vary from place to place.”
You nod and look back at the display case, “so… why are these so cheap then? I mean only four-hundred-fifty bits for a ruby ring? What’s the deal?”
The mare giggles and smiles, “Because the ring is only sign of your union, sure I put extra hours into crafting pegasi rings but nothing makes me happier than knowing that I have made somepony happy… Even though I’m not the one giving it to her.”
You chuckle and shake your head. “So you made these affordable because of happiness?”
The mare looks down in contemplation. “Well… I guess you could say that, but really? It’s because gemstones are so abundant here that there really isn’t a need for the price to be jacked up, you know?” You nod in agreement.
“May I take a look at the Ruby ring?” the pony nods and opens the case pulling out the ring and letting you inspect it. It’s smooth and shines brilliantly in the light, you look over at the sales pony and say “Excellent job on the polish.” She giggles and says thank you. You continue to admire the ring and smile “I’ll take it.” The mare smiles and grabs a small box and places the ring in the center.
She walks over to the register and ring up your purchase. “That will be four-hundred-fifty bits sir.” You open your pouch and hand her the bits and thank her. “You should know that comes with a lifetime warranty, I heat treated that thing and everything. Made sure it wasn’t going to break easily, if it does just bring it back and I will make her a new one free of charge.” You thank her and walk out.
It’s cold, winter in Ponyville tends to be a bit colder than you would like, how these fillys and colts can play out in this freeze you have no idea. You’d rather be at home by the fire reading a good book. “HEY!” you look behind you to see Twilight running up to you. You smile “TWILIGHT!” you shout back and wave. She trots over to you and gives you a hug.
“So what have you been up to?” she asks with a small smile.
“Oh you know, this and that.” you say with a chuckle, “How about you?”
She giggles “Oh you know the usual.”
"Paperwork.” you say bluntly.
“Yep, lots of paperwork.” she says in a agitated monotone voice.
You chuckle, “You see? Being a princess isn’t all fun and games.” she giggles and gives you a playful shove as you two begin walking.
“I saw you come out of the jewelry store,what did you get?” you immediately flush and Twilight gasps stopping dead in her tracks, her hooves go to her muzzle and her eyes shrink to pinpricks. “You didn’t.” excitement clearly in her voice.
“I, uhh… I might have.” You say.
“YES!” Twilight shouts out in glee, bouncing around you in a circle like a school filly "YES,YES,YES,YES,YES,YES!!!” she tackles you and hugs you. She eventually gets ahold of herself and blushes, “Sorry you had to see that.”
You shrug and wave it off, “It’s alright, no harm done.”
“So… how are you going to ask her?” she asks with a curious glance and smile.
You slouch your shoulders and sigh. "That’s just it Twilight… I have no idea how I should. I want to do something special, but I don’t think she wants anything fancy from me.” Twilight nods.
“You’re probably right,” she says with a smile, “ in fact I wouldn’t be surprised if all she really wants is for you to just be with her at that time.”
You look over at Twilight, “What makes you so sure?” she smirks.
“From what you’ve told me, Rainbow acts very differently around you. She lets herself be vulnerable around you because she trusts you. She doesn’t even act that way with me, Applejack or anypony else.” you nod “Listen, she loves you… there is no other way I could describe why she acts the way she does with you. So whatever way you purpose to her, will be fine.” She’s right. I really shouldn’t get worked up over this.
“Hey Twilight.”
She looks up at you “Yes?”
You take a deep breath pushing your anxiety to the back of your mind. “I’m scared… I’m scared that I am rushing things. I’m scared of what she will say, what she will do, I’m just… Scared. I want to make this commitment to her… but… I just don’t know if she feels the same.” you look over to Twilight who looks like she is about to burst out laughing. Small giggles escape her only moments later the dam breaks and she flops to the snow covered ground below laughing wholeheartedly at your fears. You on the other hand are quite offended and can’t help but watch.
She calms down and looks up at you, a soft smile on her face. “You honestly think she wouldn’t want to make a lifelong commitment with you? The one person who she trust more than me? Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds?” You blush. “And rushing things? You two have been dating for over a year now and you two share your house, so if you think you are rushing things… I’d think that over twice before making that judgement.” You look up at the cloudy sky, snow pelting your face.
You chuckle, “You’re right. I shouldn’t be this anxious, but I still am.” You take your eyes off the sky and realize you are almost home. “Hey Twilight… Thanks.”
The mare smiles, “Don’t mention it.” You stop and crouch to her level giving her a hug she returns it. You break the hug after a few moments and stand back up.
"Look, I’m almost home, so…”
Twilight nods and smiles “Go and get her.” You chuckle and wave goodbye.
You turn the corner and walk up to your house. It’s nearly evening, you have no doubt Dash is going to have questions as to where you have been. You walk up the steps to your house and open the door to which you are greeted with a swift tackle to the floor. “Good to see you too Dash.” you say with a soft chuckle.
"WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL DAY!?” … She looks mad.
“ I was out… shopping.” her scowl becomes one of curiosity.
“Oh really?” she sounds like she doesn’t believe you.
“Yes really, I didn’t find anything particularly interesting.” Gosh you are bad at lying. Dash lets you up and sees something on the floor.
"Hey, what’s this little black box?” You feel all the anxiety rush in.
“NOTHING!” you say quickly swiping off the floor. She looks suspiciously at you.
You are in the kitchen, chopping up some romaine for Dash, the box has been with you and out of sight since Dash saw it. Crap how am I going to do this! I’m just so nervous, WHY AM I SO NERVOUS!? you let out a quiet sigh and stop working. “What am I going to do?” unbeknownst to you, your little pegasus has snuck in looking for some snacks.
"About what?” you jump at her voice. Once again the suspicious glare returns, “What’s wrong? You’ve been really jumpy since you got home.” you sigh and pinch the bridge of your nose.
“Dash, it’s nothing.” she immediately retorts.
“It’s not nothing, you're not ever this anxious dude,” she puts on those puppy dog eyes. “Tell me what’s bothering you.” she looks to your left and sees the small box that conceals her ring. You being too anxious to even notice she swipes it and backs off. You look at the box only noticing after she has moved almost to the other room.
“DASH, GIVE ME THAT BOX!!!” you run after her.
“NO!” she shouts back flying into the bedroom and locking the door.
Your body goes cold. “Don’t open the box… please…”
“Why not?” you hear her say.
“Because I… Because… Because I’m not sure what to do.” you hear her sigh from the room and she unlocks the door and lets you in.
“I want to ask you face to face… what is in this box that has you so bent out of shape?” you take the box from her and get down on one knee and open it showing her the ring within. Her wings flare up and she goes wide eyed.
“Is this… what I think it is?” you swallow the lump in your throat.
“Rainbow… Wi-”
"YES!” You are cut off with a very strong and yearning kiss. Rainbow shivers with joy and pushes you back onto the floor, pushing almost of of her weight onto you. She’s forceful, like she hasn’t felt your touch in years. All that’s in this moment is you and her. She breaks the prolonged kiss and smiles, tears in her eyes. She begins to laugh, as the tears break she buries her head into your chest and just continues to laugh as hard as she can. Eventually that laughter turns to gentle sobs. She looks up at you with a huge smile.
She sniffles and says, “I honestly was not expecting this… I… I have dreamed about this... with you… for so long… and I can’t help but feel like I’m dreaming…” You pinch her cheek and she lets outs out a barely audible “Ow.”
You chuckle “See, you aren’t dreaming you goof.” she smiles She gets up and extends her left wing to you , sitting up you take the ring out of the box and you can’t help but take notice of the sparkle in Rainbow’s eyes. She’s happy… beyond happy. You smile and gently place the ring on her primary feather. She sniffles and looks at her wing.
"It’s perfect…” She looks up at you with tears in her eyes she says, “I’m… I’m a wife now.” she says breathlessly, like she can hardly believe her silent wishes are coming true. You pull her close and let her lean into you.
"Yes… And you are my wife. My one and only.” she lightly jabs your shoulder.
“You sap.” she says. “I love you… With all of my heart.”
You smile from her words. “I love you too… My loving wife.”
