Everypony has at least one event in their life which they would rather forget. It may be a cause of humiliation, shock or dismay for all those involved, but such times allow a formative experience which helps us grow into the ponies we've become today. That may be so because we discover something new within ourselves, or because we've had that one, or two, or three but probably one figure to guide us past our mistakes. If they raise the sun too, that's a bonus.
When the whimsicality of the situation is highlighted in verse reminiscent of one Dr Seuss, you too can understand the sheer gravitas of failure. And thus, a young Twilight Sparkle initiates her employment in the Canterlot Archives as an assistant. And Spike learns the true value of slumber.
EDIT: reworked some lines which didn't flow or rhyme well, and fixed tenses in a couple of places. Also, 100 views woohoo!
LOL loved it all you need is a cover art
2171317 Thanks, and thanks for the follow! I've been searching deviantART but I haven't had much success finding a drawing of Twilight in the style Dr Seuss. The closest I've found was one of Rainbow Dash, but that wouldn't exactly be relevant to this
Maybe a photo or painting of Dr Seuss would suffice.
Some of the rhymes didn't seem to work and it was occasionally a bit hard to follow, but Seussian works are like that sometimes. I will vote this story up, for uniqueness.
2171900 I know what you mean, I had no idea how to make some of the couplets rhyme so they ended up being a bit of a stretch :P
Thanks for the vote, anyway.
I figured this was a Dr Seuss reference the MOMENT I saw the title!
2188263 I was hoping someone would get it
What did you think, btw?
2188517 I attempted to read it in Zecora's voice, but I realized that it has a certain charm to it that only a Seussical tone can really pull off correctly.
Now I seriously want to see this drawn in Dr Suess style!
2188978 ikr, I was imagining what the reader would see if it had been illustrated, which with some select Dr Seuss books at hand, helped me to at least try to match them in silliness with verse alone
2189034 That sounds awesome! Dr. Seuss FTW!
this shant be read BUT SUNG
HAve you ever heard of all poetry? I wonder what mane Dr. Seuss would have...the cutie mark is obvious.
What 2171900 said. As a direct Seuss homage, there are a number of places where it misses the mark with weird rhymes or esoteric vocabulary, but one place where it never fell down was the sense of endearing whimsy throughout. There's also nothing in the meter which seriously tripped me up, which is a bigger deal than it sounds. All in all, this is a fun little piece worthy of an upvote.
All the made-up words! Classic Dr. Suess material!
The Dr Seuss influence was obvious, but it also brought to mind "Twas The Night Before Christmas"
Great story, you did very well capturing Dr. Seuss's style.
