Twilight Sparkle has grown distant from her friends. While they seek to settle down she still feels the pull of adventure and is unsatisfied with things. Summoned to Canterlot she is charged by Celestia to be Equestria's Ambassador to the ancient and proud Rhomane Empire whose Emperor unknown to Twilight is slowly drifting toward death. Thrust into a strange land she not only has to deal with the Empire's enemies from without, but those ponies within who seek power through evil means.

I think it should be about over a century of the time that the Romane Empire split into the east and west!

Eh, might be better to have Neighzantium, or the Basilea Ton Rhoneighon.
On an unrelated note, is Rhomane a straight up play on Roman, or is it a little more subtle than that? It sounds a little like one of the Byzantines' name for their state, Rhomania. (I kid you not. It's not modern OTL- original i.e. historical time line Romania, north of the Danuvius, but with an H.)
