The Doctor Lives

'I love you'

It was those three words that had sent the brown earth pony known as The Doctor running into the pouring rain of night in any direction to escape those words.

Those simple three words that had sent shivers down his spine and which created even more cracks in his two aged and scarred hearts. The same that had caused his relationships with his companions to be so short.

He had never been good with those three words. Even on his wedding day he had to stop and think before he recited those three painful words to his then wife.

But now there was no hesitation with these words as he had fallen for the mare that had stated them long before she had first stated them. He had fallen for her when she had reminded him what it meant to live his life to the fullest. She had taught him how to feel and how to show mercy once more when he had grown into a cold distant shadow of the pony he use to be.

But it was fear that had prevented him from repeating those three words for her. Fear that the Gods of the universe would take her from him, that he would never be able to give her what she desires. Or the discovery of what he truly is. A murder, a destroyer of worlds and races, or The Oncoming Storm, names and titles that had been all too painfully true.

Soon he reached his home in all it's blue glory and with a simple push, the doors swung open and he was allowed in to the sanctuary that had saved him from everything that he had been forced to run from.

He shook off the droplets of water that had dampened his normally spiky brown mane. He walked over to the Tardis console and sat down in the old beaten up chair that had been with him since the beginning of his travels.

The pain still resonated with every heart beat. Why did the universe have to be so cruel that he could not enjoy one moment of happiness without him ruining it!

He decided to do what he did best to escape the pain: run.

He got off his chair and began the flurry of motions required for lift off. Just as he was about to zig zag the zig zagedy lever he was interrupted by a single sound,

Knock, knock, knock, knock.

Suddenly the activation stopped and the controls seemed to no longer work. The Tardis had taken control of herself and had refused to relinquish control to her partner in crime. Just as began to question what was going on and as he was just about to yell out in frustration the same sound repeated itself throughout the Tardis control room.

Knock, knock, knock, knock.

Sighing in defeat, he slowly walked down the ramp led to the door and pulled the door open. And there she was, drenched in the pouring rain with her blood shot eyes staring at him and his broken soul.

Suddenly a hoof struck him across the face. He felt nothing as he fell to the floor of the Tardis. He felt nothing from the attack as the pain from before was so much more powerful that it overcame the physical pain he should have been feeling across his face. But even on the ground he had remained in painful eye contact with her.

She started to yell and shout but he did not hear a single word. He was to busy admiring the beauty that had drawn her in to his hearts. Her beautiful eyes that could melt the deepest pain away at any moment, even if it was only for a short amount of time.

Then she pulled him up from the cold floor and into a warm and tight embrace and began to beg for the forgiveness she did not need to ask for. She then repeated those words through her sobs that seemingly made time completely stop.

'I still love you'

Instead of feeling the familiar pain as before he felt...alive! His two hearts raced as they began to want more of this feeling. Suddenly he remembered what his Granddaughter had told him all those centuries ago before he had left her to live her life. 'Some chances are worth taking Grandfather, no matter what the cost my be.'

Those words ringed through his head and made him stop and think on the situation. He then saw the countless times he had used this very same philosophy in his travels. He remembered all the time that he had failed and the pain that soon came after it but then he began to remember the number times he or his companions had succeeded. 'She is worth it, no matter the pain that may occur.'

He pulled himself from her grip but still help her close. He took his hoof and raised her face so that he could look at her blood shot eyes and whispered words that was meant for only her ears, and for the first time in many years repeated those exact words with all the emotion that he had held when he had first stated those words to his first love on the red fields of Gallopfray 'I love you too.'

Her eyes soon lit up like Celestia's golden sun and the pain that had been there seemingly disappeared and was replaced with a happiness he himself had not seen or felt in a long time. Her lips then crashed down on his. Suddenly the universe didn't seem to matter and the pains he had collected over the Milena seemed to be washed away and was replaced with something more powerful: hope. Hope that he would finally be able to stop running. Hope to finally regain what he had lost in the Time War. And hope to finally be able to find someone who accepts him and does not fear him like whole planets and races have grown to.

As their activities continued to grow a single thought went through his head, 'I wonder if our children will be ginger'
