This story is set near the dawn of pony time when only Light, the mother alicorn of creation, and her five children Celestia, Discord, Luna, Dream and Cadence existed. They live within the Palace of Creation away from all other ponies and grow to discover their powers as well as fight the opposite personalities that dwell within them.
In Dream's Reality, Dream and her twin sister Luna find themselves accidentally sucked into the world of ancient Equestria, back when earth ponies, unicorns and pegasi lived separately and in constant distrust of one another.
Unbeknownst to either of them, Dark (otherwise known as Lord Eclipse) has set a dangerous plot in motion to assure Dream's evil alter ego will grow to dominate her body, ushering in an age of nightmare and terror upon the infant world of ponies.

Or does Luna die and Dream change her name in memory of her sister explaining why Luna can shift through dreams?
The events that cause Dream to no longer appear in the story haven't occured yet, so I'm not going to go into any major details regarding that. What I'm trying to say is that Bonaxor and I are still debating that particular point.
Just in curiosity, are the siblings teenagers in this story? And Solar Flare seems to be the only dark personality who is not inherently evil.
Also, a suggestion: Maybe Dream is still a guardian of dreams, but she is forced to take the form of her twin due to her appearance as Nightmare Moon.

Yes Celestia, Dream, Luna, Discord and Cadence are all teenagers in this story. Solar Flare is indeed not as bad as the other ones, but unlike Celestia she has a temper and isn't shy of using intimidation to accomplish what her 'good' counterpart can not. The idea is if a villian won't reason with Celestia then they'll have to deal with Solar Flare.
Also, keep in mind the bad sides might not be as bad as the siblings think they are. Compared to Eclipse and the apocalypse ponies, they are minor villians at worst and anti-heroes at best. It's what I have done to try and make the plot more interesting

Despite their privileged positions as princesses, I am trying to convey that Dream, Luna, Celestia and Cadence are all flawed characters too. Dream has a vicious temper especially, while Luna is more driven towards shyness but she will defend herself if she has to. Many readers think Dream in someway represents Nightmare Moon, but the reality is that her and Luna are two completely different characters and both are battling to defeat their own evils within.
I don't understand one thing. If princess Cadance has been in the world since the creation or whatever, why then in Twily's flashbacks in the show we see her age?
3739369 Are you referring to flashbacks from the comic series? I've discussed this with Bonaxor and the cannon in terms of this story is that Dark ends up locking her away in limbo when she discovers he is inhabiting Light's body later in the story arc (necessary spoiler). It takes slightly longer then a thousand years for the princesses to determine where he put her and let her out, at which point she is still as young as she is right now in this story. To explain her sister's sudden re-emergence into existence to her subjects, Celestia created a story about Cadence being her niece from a far away land. 'Mi Amore Cadenza' is a name Celestia made up to make her sound more foreign.
Celestia has used this technique before with her relatives, where Prince Blueblood traces his bloodline to Luna's children a thousand years ago prior to her becoming Nightmare Moon. Rather then refer to him as 'my great^27 grand nephew' she simply refers to all of those ponies related to her as nieces and nephews.

I'm not usually one to comment but this has always been one of my reread stories because as stated the concept is amazing and I'd love to finish reading but but also I've noticed it's been on hiatus since i was still in middle school and probably you won't see this but on the off chance you do i think it would mean alot to alot of fans if you push through and finish it
