This is when, instead of the usual canon event occurring, something completely non-canon takes place, thus altering the flow of history that will follow the non-canon event's occurrence.
A good example of this would be "A minor variation", by notMurphy, where, in this fiction, Rainbow Dash fails to create her first Sonic Rainboom (Like that'll ever happen LOL
),in the 23rd episode of season 1, "Cutie Mark Chronicles", thus causing the Mane Six to achieve different Cutie Marks.
