Twilight's curiosity gets the better of her when she is doing some late night reading. She is looking for topics on ancient Equestrian history, the reason mainly being because the topic is not well known, and she is about to find out why.
Long ago, Equestria, before it was even called that, was a dark and twisted land, filled with much war and horrors, and Twilight wants to see exactly what it was like, even at the risk of her own innocence.
She comes to Princess Celestia with an inquiry on the subject, and she complies...

You have completely missed my point. As far as we know (well, I hope you know this, this is pretty basic stuff) there is no story without conflict, however conflict can manifest itself in a wide variety of forms (x vs. environment, x vs. itself, x vs y, you remember, right?) , and armed conflict is the most primitive of them all. So you see, humanity doesn't really have to kick pony ass in a literal sense, nor does it have to actually kick ass. There is so much to work with, and author shows us his lack of imagination by writing about conflict in its most primitive form. As for retarded OC's, they disgust me as well. You see what I'm trying to tell you?

1854793 So, what no good sides? I mean, really, humanity has quite a few dark sides, but there's a day for every night. A right for every wrong. Believe it or not, war actually isn't humans nature. Yes, I'm dead serious. Humans nature is being tempted to do things such as kill people, and chosing whether or not to do it. It's ultimately up to every individual to decide, and most people say no to that temptation. Plus, a lot of people fight to stop the evildoers. The Allies fought to bring down the Axis, who were trying to conquer the world. We Americans rebeled against the British because they were unfair to us and abused their power. Finally, right now, practically every UN military force is deploying their troops to bring down the Taliban, Hezbollah, Al-Qeada, and everyone else who want to bring about their twisted apocolypse.
And that, my friend, is was humanity really is. If one man points a gun to the head of another and says, 'I'm going to kill you' their will always be another man who will point his own gun to the threatener's head and say, 'no, you won't'. Humanity is in a civil war with itself because there are people who want to kill innocents, and people who want to stop the killers. It's like the Autobots and the Decepticons, the Decepticons want to bring death and destruction, and the Autobots want to stop them before they can bring harm to others. That is human nature. There's the good and the bad, but in the end, you can't judge our species as a whole.
So, yes, if this becomes one of those raving 'Oh, humanity is so evil because they fight each other all the time!' stories, I will downvote.

I agree with your point (though not so on your overtly pro-American/Western sentiment).
However, inferring from this story, I think the ratio of good ponies vs bad ponies is bigger than the ratio of good humans vs bad humans. Mathematically, you could say that the ponies are a better race than us.
But I have an idea on how the writer could go with this story if he acknowledges the good humans. Twilight and Luna can go talk to war victims and how their lives are ruined because of it. Because not every human chooses war, you see.
