I'm more concerned for Diamond Tiara's well being. Yes she's a jerk for spreading hostility towards Rainbow, Applejack, and eventually Scootaloo over some nasty rumors, but I honestly don't think that's enough to warrant death on her. And besides, what would Filthy Rich do once he found out all of Ponyville didn't give a flying feather about his own daughter?
Now that that's outta the way, Rainbow has one hell of a story to tell (not just to the CMC, but to Applejack as well).
Lastly, I love the 'ooh, piece of candy' idea. Poor Zecora.
Zecora dialogue is really flipping difficult to write. So I went ahead and made her a main character.

Diamond Tiara will be a major part of the story, but only when the context is present. Obviously, Rainbow Dash's love life doesn't have much to do with her (before Caught in the Act, anyway). Plus, I wanted to include Twist somewhere in here, even if her inclusion is really indirect.
