While visiting Princess Celestia for the first time since they'd reconciled, Sunset Shimmer notices something amiss — the Crystal Mirror connecting the human world to Equestria has been quietly replaced by an entirely different mirror. Before she can question why, Sunset is sucked in and thrust into an entirely new world.

Now stranded in the world of Neopia, Sunset inadvertently frees a creature named Xandra from her stone prison, and forms an unlikely friendship — but the past, it seems, is not forgotten so easily.

A Neopets crossover.

And did you try to envelop a whole kingdom in permanent state of strife and chaos?

Well, not intentionally, anyway...

In any case, looks like Sunset's found a new reformation buddy. Let's just hope Xandra's as genuinely contrite as she seems... and that associating with her doesn't get Sunset in hot water with the local authorities. In any case, looking forward to seeing where this journey takes them. Let's just hope Sunset doesn't encounter any unusual paintbrushes along the way...

Not a crossover I expected to find in the featured, but I'm quite interested in reading this further when chapters come out. I wonder how Sunset would handle herself in a world that is both full of magic but also quite different in so many ways.

This peaked my interest with the description alone. I don’t know much about neo-pets and any lore associated with it if there even is any but both it and mlp just spark your imagination when you think about what fills their respective worlds.

Neopets... holy cow. If that ain't a nostalgia bomb. I haven't thought about it in years. I use to spend hours on that site every day.

More please🙏🤣

and the wait for this chapter was worth it, especially with the fact that obviously someone's gonna notice (as she expected) and then just how similar and different Uni's and the ponies we know of are yet so different. And then explaining magical books and I am certain that Twilight would go absolutely crazy over that fact of the book vanishing yet being able to remember every detail of it. Ahh, I can't wait to see the next chapter and to see where they go in the realm of Neopia.

Xandra could only shrug. “What were you expecting? I doubt your world is all sunshine and rainbows either.”
“Worlds. Plural,” Sunset corrected. “…It’s a long story.”
“I’m sorry, what?”

And this one isn't even a planeswalker!

And even if we grant that other ponies have some passive magic, it sounds like your kind have an inherent monopoly on the study of spellcraft.

Certainly on the spellcraft the earth ponies want them to know about. Though I may be drifting into another continuity there as well.
But yeah, don't go racing off on a crusade for a subspecies you've never even met, Xandra. There's another unicorn who could tell you a thing or two about fighting for equality when you don't even understand what values you're looking at.

Yeah, it was only a matter of time before that particular prison break got noticed. Sunset's made this a lot more complicated for herself. Hopefully this can all be explained without too much unnecessary shouting and brouhaha. We'll see soon enough.

Really enjoying this story so far--it's certainly neat to see two of my favorite fandoms in a crossover, and Sunset and Xandra certainly do have some narrative parallels going on.

I quite like the worldbuilding you're doing around some aspects of the Neopets site, such as the the explanation for why (some) books disappear after reading.

It makes sense that Xandra would see parallels between Equestrian unicorns/pegasi and Neopian faeries; this certainly seems like it could be a complication in Xandra and Sunset's developing friendship. (Can't wait until Xandra hears about alicorns.)

Poor Brynn. I get the feeling that this is the start of a not-especially-pleasant day for her.

To be fair to Xandra here, the inequalities between Earth Ponies/Pegasi/Unicorns are much closer to social class differences than the individual differences between cutie marks that Starlight Glimmer was trying to equalize. The vast majority of Aristocratic or otherwise Upper/Ruling-class ponies we see in equestria are Unicorns, and iirc it's canon that before the first hearth's warming, the unicorns and pegasi used their control over the weather/sun&moon to force the earth ponies to grow food for them. So she's not wrong in seeing a power imbalance that could be ripe for abuse there.

Now, identifying a problem and coming up with an appropriate solution to it are two different things. And that's where Xandra goes off the deep end.

Ugh… what I wouldn’t give to have human stamina right now.

Having the body of a long-distance pursuit predator has its perks.

Earth ponies have always been in a weird position in canon, haven't they? They may have some skill to do with plants, but that's never been shown explicitly. There's more evidence that they may have increased physical strength, but that doesn't come up often. They do honestly seem to get the short end of the stick. Then again, I think there's potential in exploring how a society can try to be balanced and fair when some of its members really do have more innate advantages than others. If some people plainly can do things that others can't, how do you ensure that things are still fair for everyone?

Interesting, all in all; I know precisely jack shit about Neopets beyond the comic you linked at the start, but I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes.

I dunno, one thing that bugs me about the usual interpretation of that dynamic is that it's very plainly shown in the episode that the earth ponies very clearly had their own government that could refuse the other two's demands, make demands of its own, and just pack up and leave when it didn't feel like dealing with them anymore. The entire bargaining table scene was about how each of the three groups wanted the other two to do things its way and was unable to make them do so. That's not really consistent with an oppressed underclass.

Oh this was really well written! Great chapter and character development

Yeah, Celestia's really more the far end of the pony bell curve than any kind of separate order of being -- and even then I'd hazard that Twilight, at least by the tail end of the series, probably has more raw magic power to throw around than Celestia does, or at least a lot more flexibility in what she does with it.

“Well, they do that because they kind of have to. Pegasi create the clouds, wind, and rain for basically all of Equestria,” Sunset explained. “Earth ponies and unicorns also have their own aspects of nature to take care of. Changing the seasons, looking after the wildlife, and so on. Other creatures do similar things in their own lands, too. The Everfree Forest’s what we call a ‘Wild Area,’ which is where things like weather just… happen.”

I am 99% sure that everything natural happens outside of the pony lands. Ponies are just control freaks

“Well, that depends on who you ask, and what you mean by element,” said Sunset. Presumably, Xandra wasn’t talking about the Elements of Harmony, which were something else entirely. “But the most broadly accepted theory was developed by the great Blue Mage Warlic in 323 B.E. There are eight elements in traditional spellcraft: fire, water, wind, ice, earth, energy, light, and darkness. There’s also void and harm, but those are sorta special cases.”

ADVENTUREQUEST JUMPSCARE!?

Hah! I was wondering if anyone would catch that.

I'm liking this so far. Honestly an MLP/Neopets crossover like this is working so nicely, I'm a little shocked I haven't seen it done before.

“Fire spells and emotion spells are shockingly similar to cast, actually,” said Sunset.

Also lightning, earth, certain ice spells...

“So the whole world can just… change? Without warning?”

"As though something new was laid over the fabric of reality. That's why we call them 'Patches.'"

“…So you’re saying she could be doing more to help people.”

:facehoof: I swear, there are a few topics where Xandra's brain just shuts off. Someone give her a Spider-Man comic (and I'm only now noticing the chapter title...)

When you’re powerful, and you know you’re powerful, and you start to feel like you can do anything… there’s really no limit to the sort of horrible things you can justify to yourself.

Or that.
It is amusing to see Xandra come to the same conclusions as the Tyrantlestia headcanon.

Lovely chapter. It is fascinating to see two characters so similar yet so different try to wrap their minds around one another. A shame their pursuers will likely have little patience for the nuance involved.

Very nice, let's see how it goes!
