Yeah, ngl, I love how Rainbow is the oblivious one at recognizing her impending motherhood, while Zephyr is the one who's implicitly been subtly trying to better himself because he picked up on the obvious signs. Getting her pregnant must've been a dream come true for him, ntm a MASSIVE boost to his ego. Could honestly be pretty wholesome to see how knowing he's gonna be a dad might motivate him into being a better person and someone who can support Dash and their child.
Hopefully, the sequel features Dash either stupidly knocked up and ready to pop, or has already squeezed out Zephyr's foal.
While this is a good story, it feels like it should have been in the later half of a longer story. Zephyr is in canon a really terrible pony with lots of major character flaws.
Yes, Rainbow references his canon personality, but in this story he doesn't demonstrate any flaws, he's too "perfect". So I would have wanted to see some progression, have him done something to have earned this "happy" ending.
Have a chapter or two of him being his obnoxious self, and being forced budy movie style into a "life and death" adventure with Rainbow where this is a key moment when he realizes he has to become more self aware to save the day. Then the first time rainbow came to him would be a tied to a natural reaction during the stress of the adventure.
That I think would make the lead into this chapter more natural and feel like zephyr earned his new physical situation, rather than in being "just because the author says so"
