Goldfur

I'm a science-fiction and fantasy buff, creator of the Chakat Universe, and now dabbling in the MLP:FiM universe. I love a good story!

Everyone knows the story of how the Mane Six came together to defeat Nightmare Moon, right? Nnnope! At least, not in this alternate universe where Harmony had other ideas.

Chapters (10)

This is interesting.

A promising start.

A new story, after all the stuff that happend in your stories in the main timeline and after, I really looking forward to it all ♡

Other elements of Harmony or more for different flavors of Friendship laser? Example:
Ponies can stone banish or banish to the moon.
But 1-6 Ponies plus a Griffon, Zebra and Minatour mixed into the Harmony laser has a different spell composition and we get Nightmare Moon reformatted.
Or maybe we get Luna & Nightmare Moon seperated?

I made Cadance a immortal Griffon, i get more creative ideas on command :yay:

So where did Twilight stay since no Golden Oaks?

Bigger range of harmonic generators, so will Spike be covering for the dragons this time, or will he be lucky to be a foot stool again? :twilightoops:

Its a good story but I noticed a tiny error in the first part when Big Mac goes inside to fetch his and his dads lunch you call Pear Butter Granny Smith

11553256
I think that was intentional based on the comma.

Big Mac stepped into the kitchen where he found his mother, Granny Smith, and several relatives

He was saying his mother (Pear) and Granny Smith and other relatives.

11553281
Really? I didnt think you needed a comma before and in that situation, but english also isnt my first language so maybe its a rule Im unaware off

Interesting start. I'm in. Oh, by the way the minotaur's parents. His dad wouldn't happen to be named Steve and his mother Jane by any chance would they? 😁

My grammar was correct, but it did not read clearly, so I amended the sentence for clarity.

Gilda sighed. “Yeah, that’s me. I have this weird compulsion to tell it as it is. It caused me trouble at school and it gives me grief in Griffonstone. Neither griffs nor ponies like to hear the truth all the time. They want it sugar-coated, but I just can’t do it.”

reminds me of a chapter of "MLP time loops", where Gilda became "element of BRUTAL honesty".

sets DVR to catch new episodes as they air

11553507 Evilly pre-empts your recordings with sports running over

11553510
Depends on the sport. Yankee games or NASCAR, I'll tolerate. A's games, I'll come after you with my Joe DiMaggio bat!

And is this the Dimension where Mark is the Element of Magic Goldfur?

11553159
I suspect that the Mane 6+Spike are getting swapped out for Irwin, Gilda, Trixie and/or Mark, Penumbra, Zecora, and possibly Big Mac, if I'm reading Goldfur's mindearly story draft correctly. :trollestia:
Seems that this version of Mark Wells possibly managed to not destroy the mirror he came through? Or did he forever trap Sunset Shimmer in an Alt-Canterlot High?

11553658

Can we have a Griffon Celestia like in that one chapter? :trollestia:👍

“Some rogue lightning clouds came out of the Everfree. Burned down a dozen stalls in the Marketplace and the Golden Oak.” Rainbow Dash accelerated upwards. “You’re holding the entire library in your claws!”

NOOOO!!! Not the Golden Oak!

I believe Steve Irwin and Jane Goodall might like a word.
To call them bull-headed takes quite the plucky nerd.
:trollestia::rainbowlaugh::yay:
(Also, good job with Zecora.)

I'm a little confused about how there are so many variations of Mark Wells popping up. How can so many variants from timelines in our universe fall into so many timelines in THEIR universe?

Oh - Kay, you have my Woot!!

Mythic Night
I'll let The Ancient One explain it.

Oh, but you left off the best part--how that scene got started:

I look forward to how this unfolds!

11553933
Yeah, I've gotta admit, that kind of took me out of the story for a moment, trying to figure out what was going on, when "Mark Wells" showed up -- in the company of Trixie, who has nicknamed him "Dowser", and the two of them having a daughter named "Allura"...

11554906
I had not thought it too strange to have that many parallels with the Prince Mark Wells that you know due to the large number of alternates that I've already written about previously. Trixie's nickname for Mark reflects the same thought process as her counterpart's in other universes, as does the naming of their foal.

This is an interesting start, Goldfur. You're juggling a lot of characters, but it's not like you haven't proven you're able to do so.

Of more interest to me is that it looks like you have almost enough Element candidates present to fill out three full teams of bearers.

What Discord was smoking here?

Hell of a setup you got here....I'm in

So do I have to read the other Mark wells stories to understand this one, or it works fine on its own?

11555711
This story will stand completely on its own. The presence of a Mark Wells in this alternate universe is only coincidental.

11555117
I think a surprising number of people just don’t get the pun that a “dowser” seeking water is someone who marks where one should dig a well. :twilightsheepish:

At least, not until some nerd goes and explains it in comments for the umpteenth time. :scootangel:

11555117
I'm not sure it was ever actually explained what Trixie's thought process was in nicknaming him that... was it?

11555864
It's a bit of a stretch to call that a "pun", I think... and no, it certainly isn't one that would ever have occurred to me.

11557377
Yes, it’s a pun. An obvious one, if you know enough about historic superstitions to know what a dowser did.

Which makes it perfect for Equestria, where the existence of magic spells and cutie marks probably mean dowsing for water actually works. :rainbowlaugh:

11557381
Sorry, but no, it is absolutely not a pun. A pun, by definition, relies on homophones (words which sound alike but have different meanings; i.e. "atheism is a non-prophet institution") or homographs (words which are spelled alike but have different sounds and meanings, such as "you can tune a piano but you can't tuna fish -- unless you play bass", with "bass" being the homographic pun that can mean either the stringed musical instrument, or a type of fish). In both cases, the word substitution needs to plausibly mimic, either in pronunciation and/or spelling, the words for which they are being substituted.

"Dowser" as a nickname for "Mark Wells", via the notion that a dowser is one who marks where a well is to be drilled, does not even remotely qualify as relying on similar spelling or pronunciation between the two.

11557560
You’re comparing the wrong words in looking for the double meaning. Trixie is taking the name “Mark (several meanings: polite/shining, consecrated to Mars, sworn to war) Wells (locational surname, can either mean “dweller near a well/spring” or be a short form of Wellman/Welshman)” which etymologically has very little to do with marking wells as a profession, and she is substituting another word that shares the same alternate meaning as the phrase that sounds like but means a different thing from the name Mark Wells.

Ergo, pun. Yes, she’s going a step further. Doesn’t change that she’s nicknamed him based on a double meaning/homophone of his name.

Trixie is a clever mare and is always a step ahead of those who think they’ve figured her out. :rainbowlaugh:

A very interesting read! This is my first story I've read on FimFiction.net, and I think it's very good!

Perhaps next time in alternate FIM:

11557585
Again: A pun, by definition, involves a homonymic substitution of words which either sound similar to each other when spoken aloud (homophonic) but which have different meanings, or which appear visually similar to (or the same as) each other when written (homographic) but which have different meanings. Period. It is not sufficient that the dictionary definition of the substituted word(s) may in some way include or reference the word(s) they're substituting for; the homonymic aspect must also exist.

"Dowser" and "Mark Wells" do not sound similar when spoken aloud.

"Dowser" and "Mark Wells" do not look similar when written.

Therefore, they are not homonyms; therefore, using one in place of the other is not a homonymic substitution; therefore, it is not a pun. QED.

Okay, I realize that the point of Overshoot is to hate him, but I really want to see him get his comeuppance.

Just because Pinkie isnt an element this time, it dont mean there cant be cupcakes or cheese butties.:pinkiegasp:

Especially with things getting more brutal, the Everfree is going to take some hammering and any attempt at monolog waffle is going to be met with pancaking.:twilightoops:

Then again, Trixie is the mistress of illusion, delusion, and distraction.:trixieshiftright:

“Aren’t you a charming little racist?”

To reference Silver Quill, Irwin, I think you meant to say “species” here if you are referring to him calling you a cow.

11559373
Irwin was also referring to Overshoot's treatment of Penumbra. It's just the personal insult that set him off.

Thanks for the clarification! :raritywink:

11559322
He probably has one of a few things going through his head:
A) Why hasn't HE been promoted damnit/imagines all the adulation and praise of being the HERO

B) he's just shy of wetting his armor but because HE'S a Guard and a Stallion has to act all tough and macho

C) He doesn't like the fact that Penumbra is probably better than him in both training and possible chain of command so like every middle-manager of AITA/Reddit history treats her like scum.

D) Serve and protect probably only applies to certain members of society...cough Blueblood...cough Jet Set... cough...Big C herself, all these damn yokels and bumpkins don't deserve to be blessed with ponies of HIS caliber, much less NON-ponies, pah savages the lot of them.

Well I can say with certainly that Overshoot was over reaching and abusing his authority with his actions. So as they prepare to plan to save the world we are looking at a multiple species band of EOH members.

So Goldfur, will Twilight be reduced to the role of Stygian Pre Shadow of Ponies in this retelling of the story?

11559423

Overshoot was over reaching and abusing his authority with his actions.

Yep, his name certainly checks out.
