In 2013, My Little Pony: Equestria Girls came out in theaters. We know the story, of Twilight Sparkle crossing a magical mirror to reclaim her crown, stolen by Sunset Shimmer, making new friends at Canterlot High along the way.

Seven years later, humanity would realize that this movie, and the animated series it was a spinoff of, were far more than a cartoon for children. The truth had been obscured by half-remembered dreams, the trappings of Flash animation, and the demands of a TV-Y rating.

That truth?

In 1993, a young woman stumbled out of a statue, looking for her stolen crown through the alien streets of Dubuque, Iowa...

Tri-State Area Girls is an exploration of the events of Equestrial Girls in a more realistic setting, with a few twists. What if Sunset Shimmer hadn't left Equestria for a school of colorful human versions of familiar ponies, but for our world? How long has she really been living there, if Twilight wasn't even aware of her existence? What would, one day, motivate her to go back to Equestria, and steal that crown? How would Twilight go about claiming it back, when she wouldn't deal with mirror images of her pony friends, but regular human teenagers? Does the magic of friendship truly never change, even when confronted to 90s America?

This story serves as a prequel to Five Score, Divided by Four by Twisted Spectrum, though knowledge of the original and its extended universe isn't required.

a new five score, ok i will be watching this as i am a huge fan of all five score story's.

This is going to be so awesome! :rainbowkiss:

I love all the meaningful changes already. It's so fun to see things are so different from the movies but still familiar - not unlike how Sunset is seeing this other world!

I'm dying to know what happens next!

huge fan of Five Score, this looks pretty intriguing

Ah, you're writing again. This should be quite something, I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes.

One should never eat an energy field bigger than one's head, especially if it may not necessarily like you.

Doing it alone, without anyone to get you emergency aid if you need it...

I absolutely love all of the work that you’ve done to weave the plot of this story into the established canon and bits from the movie that always felt like they were missing something.

It’s a delightful read so far, I can’t wait for more.

As a person who became a brony as a result of EqG, this looks great. Count me in for this ride.

I'm not a fan of Five Score, but this looks promising.

This fic really is diving into another saga of the world of Five Score. Love how you touched on Cadence continuing contact with Sunny, adding into the alternative history (but quite believable!) elements of this universe. Building on many of the missing plot points of the EgG movies. My absolute favorite element so far is how Sunny revolutionized computation as a result of her knowledge of magic as a whole, and her hunger/loss for her lack of magic in this world. It really sets up the crown theft to be so much more believable for her character. Improving on the canon and character of Sunset is quite an incredible feat on its own. Excited for what's to come!

Fantastic start! Consider me hooked and eagerly awaiting the next chapter! 😁

I noticed it now, but surprisingly this chapter exactly has 6.5k words. And previous one has 5k.

What a coincidence!

Absolutely captivating beginning to a story. I want to see more! Utterly fantastic!

Still looking forward to seeing more as well! The prequel we didn't realize we were all clamoring for.

Damm. Looked it up and found this place is real. Has a population of bout 57 k people and is on the Mississippi. It’s the meeting point of Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois. There is East Dubuque that is in Illinois. Hope that this is updated soon. Really enjoy it.

Hey, is this still being worked on?

really liked what there is so far, hope more chapters release! if not i understand, writting is hard, thank you either way

Well dear readers, initially I had prevented myself from answering any comment, telling myself "oh it'll be a good incentive to get the next chapter out quickly, then you'll respond to comments", and uh... Well we're all seeing how that went. So first off, I'm truly sorry for the wait, and my ill-conceived silence for (*checks calendar...*) far too darn long oh gosh how did this happen what is time even

So, short of being able to slap some sense into Past-Me and avoid this shameful mess altogether, let's try to rectify some things, and finally answer some of your comments.

Main point: the fic is still being actively worked on! I know appearances aren't exactly indicative in that regard, but I still have my plans for the whole story (with accompanying spreadsheets and pages of notes, of course), and have been writing more of it (even though at a glacial pace) for the past months. That third chapter has been the death of me, needing to be restarted a couple times already to get it just right and to the level of quality I want for Tri-State Area Girls. This is a story I really do care about, and it's been more than a little frustrating to not be able to make it flow as readily.

After some essential feedback from a fellow writer, I now feel I have the correct tools, at last, to tackle that chapter and make it into what it needs to be. After all this wait, you can be sure it's gonna be as good as I can make it! This rewrite has been a bit slow because I've had to work on other long-gestating projects, but rest assured: it will come.

I also want to thank you all for your positive feedback and encouragements, they've been so important to help me keep working on this story even when it felt like it was actively struggling against me. Makes me all the more frustrated that I couldn't deliver on my promises in a timely fashion, but if you're still willing to put your trust in my plans and questionable skills, I will make it worth the wait.

Once again, sorry for the ridiculous delays, and thank you for giving the story a chance.
