"Ladies and Gentlemen, take my advice. Pull down your pants and slide on the ice." ~ Dr. Sidney Freedman, M*A*S*H S3 Ep5

T
Source

Applejack wakes up in the forest, finds another creature called a human, and learns that the only way to escape this prison is to collect lumber.

Sounds easy, right?

Oh, how wrong they are. For out here, nothing is easy, everything takes longer than it should, most of the wildlife wants to kill and/or eat you, and there's no such thing as clean.

Mud, Misery, and Mayhem are the names of the game. Now, will they choose to play, or give up?

----------

NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE GAME IS REQUIRED!

So, if you're unaware, this is a spinnoff/crossover of a older game called Spintires, which some years ago got a remake called Mud Runner, which then got a sequel called Snow Runner. I've played and beat the first two, and I'm currently about 40 hours into the third. While this story is heavily focused on the dynamics of the first two games, I will also be borrowing some elements of the third (for our characters sake) and be implementing a few other things not in these games, such as more survival tactics of being in the woods.

Also, currently no pre-readers or editors, and while this story isn't meant to be something perfect, if this genera, story, or even the game are your thing and you'd like to help out, feel free to message me and you can be part of this!

And as it so happens, the reason this story is being published today is because I'm home sick from being stuffed inside of a Piper Meridian all day yesterday during a heat wave and high humidity. Also because I just rolled one of my trucks down a embankment so I had to step away because now I gotta re-do an hour of work because FUCK THIS GAME FUCK THIS GAME FUCK THIS GAME...

I'm now gonna go back to the game.

pretty cool story,

I wish you luck on the game though.

The crossover I never expected, but secretly always wanted.

The Crossover I never expected, but always think about when I play Snowrunner.

I've been thinking about my own version of this crossover, based mostly/entirely on Snowrunner. 'cept it'd start off with a displaced start, dude in a scout vehicle of some kind, trudging through the Everfree, finds a white hand sticking out of a deep bog. Pulls out Sweetie Belle. Sweetie joins up with MC on his jobs. Eventually falls in love, that kind of thing.

I know, for the longest time I thought about how to do it. Finally decided to just try something and see how it goes.

So I actually battled myself over where to set this, and how much to make it like the game VS more "real life". Equestria, Earth, alien world, etc. Finally decided to keep it simple, and force them in a small area, boxed in, much like the game does. Its like, I want to have it be obvious this is a game they're in, but also make it feel REAL, like no, they don't have extra lives, or they can cheat their way though. They have access to supplies and parts and such, but it doesn't just magically happen, they still have to go through the process. Harvest the food, hunt game, have a garden. They'll have an infinite warehouse to whatever would be needed to fix a truck, but they still have to actually do the work to fix it.

That sort of thing. Wish you luck on yours if you ever go through with it!

Yeah I would've done mine similar to how the game does, through regions. Start them off in Everfree/Ponyville after the Tirek disaster, weather went out of control and flooded everything, thousands dead because pegasi fell out of the clouds without warning, etc. Get a series of main contracts complete to help the town recover, jobs usually encompass building log bridges, moving families out, recovering new vehicles to keep or getting stuck carts/trailers to their owners, etc. After that, probably move to the Crystal Empire for the Snowrunning experience, be a lot of moving stuff around to create artificial walls to help keep predators out while the crystal heart recovers from the fiasco, etc. I think a third region might be a much more southern map, maybe somewhere around Dodge Junction and dealing with earthquakes and such. Small region, like Don. Go over to the coast, help them move stuff for setting up/ repairing a power plant or something.

Each new region, the garage needs to be unlocked and moved into and rebuilt, like Maine, which then unlocks the unlimited parts, food, and fuel, all which they pay for but don't run out of, etc. There'd be an internet connection which only connects to the parts catalogue, fuel, food, and a reduced version of Mod.io that only shows the non-op vehicles and such. Everything, like I said, costs money to buy from it, though it'd show up in the shop the next day.

It's beautiful. I can already hear the raging.

That sounds like an awesome idea.

Now this is an idea and a half, smells like Quantum Castaways, which is a very good thing indeed.

I'm glad you had the idea to write this, looking forward to wherever you take it.

Oh gosh, if I could ever get as close to perfection as QC with character interaction... gosh what an honor that would be.

Although, now that you say this, I didn't realize the similarities. I'll have to be mindful of not doing any common tropes.

Well now, let's see where this road takes us :ajsmug:

I'm looking forward to more of your story as I've played Mudrunner as well as Snowrunner.

Ayyyyy I love how this is starting out.

Good start dude, love how this is going. Also I absolutely love the headcanon with earth pony magic, unless it's Applejack specific, idk.

Good job dude, keep on trucking!

Also, I feel you on the game, it's so frustrating lmao

Towards pain and misery, probably.

11314981
Awesome, can't wait to see how I absolutely botch all of this.

11314998
That's the mystery, isn't it? To be seen I guess!

Been waiting to respond for when I'm not raging, but fuck that's all I've been doing all day.

FUCK.

Oh. My. F:yay:king god.

Someone could have told me the SPINTIRES SERIES was a tag! Never did I think I would want a story like this!

You sir have a tracker for allowing me to learn of the tag. I say before completely forgetting to put the story on the tracking list.

i did not expect a spin tires crossover but im interested on what happens next

Is it a ZiL-130 in the picture? Yes, it's a ZiL-130 on a mud track somewhere in Russian forests.

Quite unexpected. Nostalgic, too.

Funny enough, up to about a week ago the tag didn't exist. I just thankfully know some people, asked nicely, threatened when that didn't work, and bamo! Tag added!

11315072
Honestly this has been the general consensus on the story, to which I'm proud to say is what I was hoping/expecting for. Always gives a warm, fuzzy feeling when you write something that no one, safe for those three louts in red capes, would expect.

11315158
So you actually bring up a good point. In the game, all of the vehicles have slightly different designations, and while I'm gonna be using those to describe them, I wanna start looking up the actual vehicles they're based on to get more details. Things like what parts tend to fail the most, how some people have fixed them, that sort of stuff.

Now this, this I like as a fellow mudrunner and snowrunner player.

Can't wait for more.

I'm sure Applejack will fully understand those old rusky trucks

I sure hope that this will be the start of a great adventure where these two deliver wood and become the best of friends while doing so and not the start of a mess which snowballs to the point where they both get into screaming matches about who is at fault at even the slightest disagreement or problem.

Honestly, a little bit of A, and a little bit of B.

More so, it's gonna be them both mad at the world and agreeing to hate it together.

Friendship!

What a fic to catch in the feature box.

I absolutely love this game series - the intricacy of the control systems mixed with the weird emptiness of the world makes for a perfect backdrop to cursing, screaming, winching, and backtracking. I recognized the screenshot from the particular way the mud was clinging to the front tire, which was one of my more embarrassing moments tbh. On top of all of this, being a bit of a "car guy" I have an obsession with ponies driving human cars and trucks, particularly Applejack... and holy shit you rolled it all into a fic I don't even have to write!!

I'll be following this fic for sure. Awesome first chapter, it was a really fun introduction to the world. I can't wait to see how you impose the game mechanics on AJ and her new human friend. Hope you're feeling better soon!! And good luck beating Snowrunner!

"Furst things furst." Applejack gave the ungainly creature a long look, from muddy boots to muddy shirt. "Ah don't suppose you got a hat around that'll fits me, does ya?"

Glad you enjoyed it for a first chapter. In regards to Snow Runner, I'm almost done with the Michigan map. IT has been... a trial. Wow. PS4 is kinda lame cause it doesn't track your time in a game, but if I had to guess, I got between 40 and 50 hours already, and I'm told it can take upwards of 400 hours to beat. So it will be an interesting game for sure.

11315555
No worries, Georg, this will be solved before too long, and I think you'll love it.

Y'know, I would'a had a bit of a chuckle if the reason he was keeping clear of her in the beginning was an abundance of rodeo and/or country fair experience, and therefore a healthy respect for a horse with red mane and tail ribbons.

Never thought to see a Crossover like this, i imagine a mud/snowrunner Crossover would be next to impossible

With amusement, she realized her face only reached above his waste.

The word you want is Waist.

“Ee’ope,” she said through her occupied mouth.

Fun fact, the letters that people actually have trouble with when their mouth is full or closed are M, P, B, F, and V.

What is this? Slenderman?

Shhh! Don't spoil that joke already! It comes later, trust me.

11321118
I'm a lot of things, but I'm also drunk. Also also same, so I knew I had to do it. If not me, then who?

11321327
Thanks for that catch! Gdocs on my phone is weird, and there's parts of this story I wrote on it, so I know there's gonna be some mistakes that won't be caught until later.

Also, not gonna argue your fun fact, but I put an actual dust pan handle in my mouth and tried to say "Eenope", but I couldn't pull off the N. Maybe that's just me then?

11321604
Uh, no? It's Spintires.

11321631
Ahh, got'cha. I had thought of doing that myself, but decided I couldn't be bothered. I did, however, come up with the letters I gave you by using the ventriloquist's skill of not moving my mouth.

11321631
Of course. I thought about a snow runner Crossover but could not think of a plot, given the game has no true Story to speak of

Well shoot, we got somebody else out here with us.

Aye, should make things all the more interesting, no?

Man number three, sounds like a real old-school long haul driver. This is shaping up to be a grand auld adventure.

Thanks! Yeah, this should be a fun one.

This is pretty damn good so far, I like the old guy on the other end of the line so far

Rad story so far! Can't wait to see where it goes, especially with revealing who that second pony might be.

I'll be honest, I wasn't really sure what to make of this. I'm glad that I decided to give this a shot. Its an interesting concept and has a similar feel to the story "Quantum Castaways by DustTraveller". So if anyone is on the fence about giving this a shot, I would say go for it.

“Huh, that’s weird,” Bill removed his hand. “Said something briefly, about already registered?”

Hmmm. Maybe there have been other people/ponies stranded in this area and once they figure out or complete an objective they're free?

Hey, thanks! You're the third person to tell me that this reminds them of QC, so it's a high standard I must abide by.

I am well and truly loving the way you're writing Applejack, she takes no prisoners.

Hah, thanks. I've never written her quite this sassy before, so I wanted to try it out

Giving it a mighty tug, pulling with her neck muscles, she sent five years worth of dust and dander all over the room

She probably should have done that before she took her shower.

You can blame To for getting me to read this. His description of this being like Quantum Castaways is very apt. Followed.

The meta layer be kinda finicky, as why have shanghaied labor if something else has already done half the work? Unless it's a Bloodborne style thing where reality isn't quite what it first appears.

I hope it's a Bloodborne style thing.

Still. I've enjoyed what I read so far and am looking forward to the next update.

Ah yes, gun safety with Applejack. Glad to see she's found herself a replacement hat, not quite a Stetson, but very fetching all the same.

Neat way to fold in a game-style map by the way, I like it!
