A lovely look at both the young diarchs and Star Swirl's... unconventional teaching methods. Though Luna dropping the cutest "r = w" voice after one line bothers me. I just wish it was consistent one way or the other.
But that's a minor quibble. Overall, a good lesson for Celestia with a nice undercurrent of impending tragedy. Thank you for it, and best of luck in the judging.

augh, the folded-back ears are the perfect touch. and yes, the contrast between Celestia's aloofness and Luna's emotion stretching back to their fillyhoods is a great thing to explore like this
and this Starswirl is just so warm and wise! very fitting to be Celestia's mentor

and that is the world Celestia spent her long reign doing her best to build for her little ponies! argh.
this was a lovely mix of heartwarming adorableness and heartbreaking future tragedies foreshadowed, joined by the strife and terror of a world at war far in the background. what a contrast to the Equestria of the modern age that we see, underscoring the gulf of time that separates the Royal Sisters of the present that we know, and the vastly different world that they grew up in.
and augh, i am so impressed with just how much personality Celestia, Luna, and Starswirl have here, and how perfect they are as the younger versions of the much older characters we see in the canon. i can imagine perfectly how they grew up from this point to what we saw, and how time has changed them. amazing work!

Didn't expect for that bomb to be dropped so early. Suerly there was more to that than this one small exchange of sentences to give a spark. The rest of fic is pretty good for what it is. I like it!
