Vanity

oh god help they're keeping me in a cage and making me write fanfiction

So yeah, let's write another long-ass story. Also, I've decided I want to swear now.

Read the story first if you haven't before you read the rest of this comment.

If there's one plot hole that really irritated me throughout the show, it was the question of what the Sirens were doing in Humanverse in what appears to be their late teens at the same time as Sunset Shimmer, even though they were banished near enough a thousand years apart, all the more so given that the Sirens are easily my favourite villains in the franchise.

Before anyone else says it: There is a comic that extensively explains the siren's background and portrays them arriving in 21st century Humanverse, but this conflicts with their appearance in the show, and the comics aren't strictly considered canon, so the only thing I'll be taking from that is that the siren's magical singing power is contained within their amulets, since it fits with what we saw in the movie.

In this new task I've decided to give myself, I'll be writing the lives of the Dazzlings during the thousand years they spent in Humanverse, which, assuming the events of Rainbow Rocks take place during the early 21st century, should cover the turn of the second millennium to then. I won't painstakingly cover every single era, but I'll break their story up into chunks covering the eras I feel are most interesting to set a story in. I'll assume their world developed somewhat similarly to ours, but I'll tweak things if I feel it'll make a better story (as in, I'm just gonna wing it).

In addition, if you've never watched the TV show Blackadder, go watch it. It was my inspiration for this story format of the same characters existing through the ages, and although that's about all I intend to take from it, it's an amazing show and you're missing out.

The M rating is because I want to include themes in this story which definitely aren't for kids (or anyone under the age of 18), but I'm not writing erotica or anything.

I'll try to engage more with comments this time, since I kind of felt like a dick not responding much last time. Please feel free to criticise what I write - it's the only way I'll improve!

Gathering their strength, the three sisters prepare to face a strange new world, develop their powers, and one day, some day, return home.

Considering what happened to them at the end of Rainbow Rocks, then shouldn't there be a tragedy tag?

This story itself isn't going to cover RR, just the lead-up to it.

Is it going to cover the aftermath?

Maybe! A sequel to RR would be fun to write.

Right now, uni's kicking my ass with work - hopefully I'll be able to work on this story more from here on. Thanks for the watch!

I'll try and upload more regularly from now on

What about now? Will there be a squeal now?

To Rainbow Rocks? Maybe, but I'd have to finish this story first.

Like I said, it would be fun to write, but I'd have to figure out a good arc for it to go through. My headcanon would be that without their amulets, they'd start to age like regular humans, which (in addition to being pretty dark) could serve as the basis for some kind of tragedy story.

Honestly, given that all we know about them is that they took up careers as musicians after RR, you could do anything you liked with that. Maybe a story about struggling with mortality.

In retrospect, the corrupt kingdom burned and from its ashes the republic of Equestria grow from the oppressed survivors and peasants. The king is dead! Let this new age welcome these three immortals!

Now would you write the dazzlings getting children and thus they'll meet their own descendants down the line? lol

Immortal Siren offspring... not where this story's going, but an interesting idea :pinkiehappy:

11169722
no, the children aren't immortal. So they got to watch their sons, daughters and grandchildren grow and die. Not my idea, but its borrowed from Sam Rose/jakeheritagu where he drew a comic of Aria visiting her son in the nursing home while Adiago does the same by visiting her daughter who has alzheimers

11153235
If that does happen, could you please tell me?

Of course these three would be in the center of the plague. Which pandemic is this? first or second? First was roman greek, second was the black death of europe.

11185255
Sure!
11185278
It's loosely based around the black death of the 14th century, a fair time skip from Act 1 which was set around the 11th.

11185306
300 years? goddamn. You better get them involved in the Salem Witch trials though.. and oh another thing.. would they ever meet that one young kid again as an old man sort of situation? Or meet descendants of people they screwed over/interaced

11185312
Not a lot happening between 1000-1300 (with maybe the exception of the crusades, which didn't really fit the story) so I opted for a big time skip. The Salem Witch Trials might work better as a short story - I have a few ideas lying around like that which I'll probably stitch into a bonus chapter at the end.

As for having them meet the same person between different time zones... maybe, but probably only as a one-off scene, like in the end of the first act.

11185322
Is it possible for the sirens to have children? The whole 'meeting your own descendant lol. Anywho, as much its harsh to exile all the infected instead of quarantining them, I don't really blame the nephew for his decision it's pragmatic. I do agree with burning the infected's things though. That's hella smart

11185372
I assume they're physiologically the same as regular humans, just with magical trinkets that stop them from aging, so sure. It's not part of my plans for this story, though.

11185381
ah ok, yeah you do you. Still love how we see that Sonata is the only one that can be redeemed but her naivety is a very dangerous thing during the time period they're in right now. But i'm going on a limb and say neither uncle of nephew are in the right. Neither of em are 'virtuous' leaders in hindsight.

Cliffhanger, diiick! more reason why Sonata deserves to be part of the rainbooms after 2nd movie. She has a moral code, which though isn't fitting during that time.

Sonata always struck me as the least "evil" of the three.
And don't worry, I'll make sure the next chapter is out as soon as possible!
