Mockingbirb

A pony of mystery in the darkness. Or I forgot to take the lens cap off. (They/them is fine.)

"Good morning, Luna."

It was the best she could do, with Celestia gone from this world.

(A contest entry for Imposing Sovereigns III: Luna / either Kindness or Determination, really.)

Thanks to cultpony for feedback/preread.

wow just wow now let my brain think of all the ways celestia died or go missing im not sleeping tonight

Reaching the end I kinda... Wanted to read more of where this "elseworlds" story is going!

A very nice snapshot of one possible way the opposite route could go... but after a thousand years, I'd expect some kind of innovation to work around the whole "blinding mane" problem. Glasses that forego the rest of the welder's mask. Spells to filter light. Scheduling most of Luna's appointments at night, when the stellar cluster isn't present in all its blinding intensity. Something.

Again, these are some great scenes of Luna dutifully filling in for her sister. The conversation with Raven feels like it could have happened verbatim in more conventional timelines. But some of the tragedy still feels manufactured. In any case, thank you for it and best of luck in the contest.

Thank you for continuing your habit of providing thoughtful, nice* comments! It's no wonder that your comments are so widely regarded as day-brighteners!

*I think FoME-style constructive is nice even when it's sometimes maybe not 100% unalloyed "positive."

This is the first time I've seen the idea of Luna creating sunlight with stars. It's clever. It's also a shame it wouldn't work in our own universe (or is it)?
