Even though the threats of the greater world existed, they weren't a concern to Rain Shine. Until once day those threats came to her small village seeking her. She had two choices, to take the easy and profitable path of capitulation, or the hard, and dangerous path of resistance. Either way, nothing will ever be the same for her.

Well that was an interesting origin story for the Kirin! Kind of makes me want to play with them more in writing myself.
Interesting concept, but iffy execution. While I love the idea of Rain Shine experiencing a sylvan analogue to alicorn ascension, the story as a whole lacks polish. It's very basic overall ,and there are a number of places where it needed another proofreading sweep. It's also not clear how the Mage Lords fit in with the established history of Equestria; they feel more like a generic fantasy concept awkwardly transplanted into this world.
Still, some very nice touches and a great dive into a little-considered character. Thank you for this, and best of luck in the judging.

*Snickers* What established history? It's a giant crap shoot.
A very interesting take on the origin of the Kirin. But I agree with FOME in that the Mage Lords feel like they're shoved in to push the story along in a generic way. My mind can kind of fit them onto a place in the Canon, but they should maybe perhaps have a different name for that: the E.U.P.
I'm only bringing it up because tying things like this a bit closer to Canon makes them easier to digest for most people. Especially if you're explaining something that exists in Canon.
But I love the story and it's a very believable origin story.

Hehe, I mainly meant we have like... 1100-1500 years of history for a very, very small part of Equestria. If you can't fit other history into that then... *Shrugs* :D
