When you're a changeling, there's a lot of things you can do a more easily than everyone else. Fit into a tight space, sneak out of class, reach the top shelf. A little shape shifting is all it takes. When Ocellus feels the need to try something else for a little while, it's as easy as making herself a set of fingers to snap.
But maybe you don't need a whole transformation to try something different.
for Pride and positivity.
Poor, poor Sandbar... I like how well a male Ocellus and Gallus play off each other. If female Ocellus acts more like Thorax, then their male counterpart definitely feels like Pharynx .
That was pretty fun. Changeling weirdness makes for great stories when properly utilized.
Admittedly, this isn't normally my sort of story...but the idea of Ocellus joining Gallus and Sandbar for a boys night--and going out of her way to fit the part for it--is admittedly a pretty good hook, if just to see how it'd ultimately play out.
It probably helps that all three characters are portrayed largely how I myself would portray them were I to write them in such a situation, with Gallus being the mischievous "all paws in" sort, Sandbar being the nervous, prudish, "I think I need an adult" sort, and Ocellus being the middle-ground between the two. Makes for good banter altogether.
Odd but not bad.
FUCKING LOVE IT SO FAR CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE
The dialogue's definitely the strongest part for me. I love the way that you write the leads, Gallus especially. That femininity in him is awesome. Changeling genderfluidity is also just so nice to see.
This was...oddly amusing. The three of them have got a good friendly chemistry going on. The whole situation of them sneaking into an underground bar and casino in Manehattan is so far-fetched yet that somehow adds to the humor.
Ocellus is either non-binary or genderfluid, I believe? And Gallus is a gay "femboy", for lack of a better term?
It's always been my headcanon that since the physical form of a changeling is fairly arbitrary, the sex of a changeling isn't really related to physical form. Changelings, as we've seen them, have little to no visual sexual dimorphism. (Throax has antlers, but that's mainly cause of his status as king.) Perhaps changelings' sex is determined not by physical anatomy, but by an internal energy that is picked up by other changelings. Some changelings may hold an inner "masculine energy", while some hold "feminine energy". Or maybe they possess "dual energy" or "interchangeable energy", kind of like Ocellus in this fic.
I imagine boy-mode Ocellus to be much more outgoing and risk-taking, while girl-mode Ocellus is the studious and timid changeling that we all know.
Looking forward to the second half.
this is a wonderful story!!!!! i love genderfluid/non-binary changelings, especially ocellus :D
i hope its not out of line of me, but i did notice a few grammatical errors, here:
i dont want to be rude though aa!!!! your writing is wonderful as is and i can really feel the chemistry between these three :)
I'm loving this so far!
I'm absolutely here for genderfluid Ocellus. Gallus being into him is just sweet hilarity.
Several lovely moments, such as the opening scene with Ocellus' restlessness, culminating in offering to be a bouncy ball. I loved Ocellus's question, "Does Ocellus seem like a gendered name to you?" And that fist bump was everything.
I'm adoring this so far, definitely looking forward to seeing where you take this!
Fun real hope to see more of this Guys night out and see where this leads to.
Finally got around to reading this. Pretty fun story, and there was some really nice dialogue. It's interesting seeing the different ways characters approach gender. The conversations could have used more "(CHARACTER) said"s, though, during the conversations between three characters.
I'm really enjoying the banter in this story. Can't wait for part 3.

femboy Gallus...
I NEED IT
i think a more masc version of Ocellus would be Oculus
means about the same thing, but sounds more masculine because of the "k" sound
i sure hope this sticks to "femboy gallus" and doesn't try to make him trans
if that happens i'll be extremely pissed
because that'd be implying that i'm also just a confused trans person, and i assure you, such is far from the case

I sort of have to agree (which is sort of weird to admit, because as I had commented on the previous chapter, neither trans or femboy are usually my sort of thing, but there it is anyway). I think there's just more potential in the whole femboy Gallus angle than there is the trans, made all the more interesting by Ocellus's presence as the, frankly unexpected but intriguing, wild card.
11034290
i guess it's the right time of year for scary/supernatural things, what with you agreeing with me and all
11034306
I mean, statistically speaking, it was bound to happen sooner or later.
11034309
yeah, i'm just commenting on the perfect timing
Cute chapter, can't wait for the next one!

"because that'd be implying that i'm also just a confused trans person"
The story isn't about you. You can be disappointed if the story ends up being about something other than you originally thought it was going to be, but that doesn't make it personal. Even if Gallus does end up deciding he's trans later that wouldn't be a blanket statement on all fem boys, it would just be one individual exploring who they are and coming to a particular conclusion. That would not invalidate you or anyone else.
11035997
ya sure, hotshot?
cuz a lot of other people would think otherwise
11036024
Ok, let me try again. If a character who was presenting as a fem boy decides they're trans later, that does not invalidate fem boys. Fem boy Gallus is every bit as valid as trans Gallus. Based on what I've read here I don't even think trans Gallus is where the story is going, which is fine, I enjoy a good exploration of gender expression and I'm curious to see what he discovers about himself.
The story is not implying that you, or anyone else, is a "confused trans person." Even if Gallus does end up being trans, which it doesn't seem like it at this point, it still would not be implying that. It would just be one character discovering something about themself, not a blanket statement about all fem boys.
Please don't try to assert that a potential future development of the story would be an attack on you or people like you. It would not be, nothing about the story has implied anything negative about fem boys so far, and it's rather rude to assume that it will.
FUCKIN TIGHT—not often you see gender exploration without dysphoria so i'm very down for this
can't wait for the date, sounds like it'll be cute

so
i wonder if this'll continue at some point

Haven't been writing because of a change in living conditions. Moving soon. so I'll get to finishing it soon.

If you're still interested that is, I'd love to see a continuation of this story.
However, take of yourself first, of course.

When and if that happens, you can fill in this bit that you forgot to write:
Oh, and Gallus says he plays cards when he wants to win twice.
I sure hope you do come back to it, though.
