This story is a sequel to Class Portrait

Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo need to do an interview for a school project. Fortunately, they have found the right pony to help with their homework assignment. One trip to Ponyville's Town Hall in after school hours should be all they need for their research.

Absolutely nothing whatsoever goes wrong.

This reminds me of We happy few.

I've never played that game. Sorry.

Genuinely curious how you get such good cover pics for each fic you make.

Well this is mildly terrifying. The first story had minorly unsettling implications, but they weren't as blatant as they were here. Good god, the government-sanctioned (at least on the local level) xenophobia and blatant racism with Zecora...

Side note, does your version of Sweet Stuff have Crystal Pony ancestry, or something? That'd be Gen 4's closest equivalent to a Twinkle-Eye Pony, at least the only one that's firmly canon.

I kind of want someone to be disillusioned in this whole thing. I want someone to be able to stand up to this nonsense, and succeed at it. I don't care if it's not "realistic" if the members of a faction that genuinely care about others and fight for the right reasons end up winning; it's that kind of mindset prevents people from speaking out when there's a problem in real life. Though, granted, I know that morality is a tricky subject, and can sometimes be considered to be subjective; we, as outsiders, can probably recognize the horrific indoctrination for what it is because we were not raised with it. But some of these ponies might truly believe that what they are doing is correct.

I just... feel kind of bad about the idea that Sweetie Belle immediately thinks of monsters when she hears the word "heresy", believes that people who criticize the Princess must automatically hate her. That she seems to lack an understanding of what heresy properly is, that she and everypony around her think of Celestia as a Goddess. The way that Sweetie and Scootaloo accepted everything at face value, because young children are wont to do that, especially when something is being explained in a way that makes the one giving exposition seem as though these are things that are obvious, right, and true. That any of this is okay.

I'm kind of curious to see where a story like this goes. It's an idea I've seen before, but that doesn't make it any less interesting, especially as everyone has their own takes on it.

I usually have a cover piece in mind when I write the story. Generally, if I have an idea I want to write, I make sure I have what's needed to post it and see the idea through instead of languishing in an incomplete state. Other times, pictures directly inspire my stories.

This Sweet Stuff wouldn't, no. She's described as an earth pony. I do believe a couple of my other stories mention twinkle-eyed ponies as an extinct race, with only four surviving (earth, unicorn, pegasus, and crystal). The same goes for flutter ponies.

I kind of want someone to be disillusioned in this whole thing. I want someone to be able to stand up to this nonsense, and succeed at it.

I'd point you to my longer stories, if you want that. Though, a word of caution: some of them are in rough shape because not all of them have been revised for print. I've been writing on here since 2015, and I'm always trying to grow and improve. Generally, with the exception of Enemy of Mine, anything written in 2017 or earlier shows its age the most. At least as of me typing this. That will obviously change in the future.

I just... feel kind of bad about the idea that Sweetie Belle immediately thinks of monsters when she hears the word "heresy", believes that people who criticize the Princess must automatically hate her. That she seems to lack an understanding of what heresy properly is, that she and everypony around her think of Celestia as a Goddess.

I've always written some characters as divine. Luna, Tia, and Discord are the biggest general examples. So, the choice for there being a crime called heresy was very deliberate. When your rulers are gods, all kinds of doors can be opened. Some are messy and troubling, while others could be supremely poggers. And then, of course, you would have to factor in the personality and morality of each god on whether you lead a blessed or cursed life.

But it is still very wrong for Celestia to give the impression that heretics include those with valid critiques.

The way that Sweetie and Scootaloo accepted everything at face value, because young children are wont to do that, especially when something is being explained in a way that makes the one giving exposition seem as though these are things that are obvious, right, and true. That any of this is okay.

It's fun getting to write more innocent children lately. Oh, and by fun I mean not fun for the reader. Whoopsie daisy.

I'm kind of curious to see where a story like this goes.

Here you go.

the scariest thing about this story is how easily impressionable the fillies are. hopefully rarity and rainbow dash could knock some sense into them before it's too late.

Psychological horror is easily one of my faves to write. Nothing worse than The Implications left at the end!
