Dwindle

T

Waking up underneath the sea in the body of a pony mixed with a world war 2 warship was defiantly not how the newly named Yamato thought her morning would go. But since it did, she was going to find just what had brought her to this foreign land and fused her with a ship. Now she and three thousand members of her crew prowl the Oceans of Equis, intent on finding the rainbow light that seemingly brought her here. But Yamato's return has stirred up the ocean floor, and creatures never before seen rise from the Abyss to claim the oceans as theirs.

Will Yamato wield her cannons in defense of the innocent life of Equis? Or will she turn her 18' turrets on those who would prevent her from returning to her previous life? One things for sure, those who underestimate the might of Yamato will know the fury of greatest battleship ever built. (Kancolle Kantai Collection/MLP crossover/SI, not anthro)

One things for sure, those who underestimate the might of Yamato will know the fury of greatest battleship ever built.

Kancolle notwithstanding, Yamato was NOT the greatest Battleship ever built.
It was INCREDIBLY vulnerable to aerial attack, and it's larger-than-standard gun batteries became its greatest weakness, blowing the ship into pieces.
Its sister ship suffered a similar fate as well.

Here before you blow up my friend

The greatest ship ever built must be a aircraft carrier, at least if naval warfare/upcoming space arms race continues to be dominated by naval aviation/snub fighters

A fair point. But to me the greatest battleship is more decided on what battleships were primarily designed for and compared to other battleships. Sure, Yamato had pretty awful AA compared to Iowa, but lets not forget that it was nearly 300 aircraft that were sent to kill her when the Yamato task group had less ten ships when the battle started. I doubt even the Iowa would have survived in similar circumstances.

And at the end of the day, its just me trying to make my MC sound more impressive. surely you cant fault me for that.

10642150
Oh undoubtedly an aircraft carrier would be considered the greatest ship ever built, especially since those are the ships we keep building. But that's why I had the qualifier greatest battleship ever built in there.

10642099
Great and effective are two different things - great implies grandiosity and such, and an almost monolithic surrounding mythology. The Tiger I had many problems, but its comparative heaviness and fearsome reputation made it one of the great tanks of the war - Allied servicemen didn't run and hide when they heard that a StuG was roaming about, even though they were much more cost-effective than Tigers.

10642202
Even so, you compare the intimidation factors for the Yamato and her sister ship, the Musashi (Shinano having never been officiallycompleted), to that of the Bismarck and Tirpitz, the German-built superships were still far more intimidating.

10642266
I've not read this story yet, but I wanna say that it's not really a fair comparison to say that the Bismark was more intimidating. That fear came from the fact that the British tried to engage the Bismark in the exact situation it was designed to fight in and paid the price with Hood's loss. The USA had the chance to learn from Britain's mistake and not give the Japanese fleet any such chance. If any US ship tried to fight the Yamato in a similar situation to the Bismark vs Hood scenario the only ones that could stand a chance were the Iowa class ships, and even then there are some serious advantages to the Yamatos design compared to Iowa.

The deciding factor of a Iowa vs Yamato engagement would be one simple thing.

Can the Yamato hit the Iowa before they outrun them?

Iowa is faster and has the longer (accurate) firing range. Yamato can take a hit and dish it out twice as hard. All it would take is damaging the propulsion of the Iowa to force them to slow down and they'd be screwed. All it would take is getting out of the Yamato's firing range and they would be screwed.

In the end we will never know how that engagement would have played out because the US played it smart and used the best tool for the job instead of beating their head against a steel wall.

10642331
Even if you put it into general purpose situations, Bismarck was able to battle both ship-to-ship and ship-to-air with excellent results.
The deck-guns on Yamato were poorly suited to anti-air, having been built with a more intended purpose as anti-personel weapons.

This was amusing
If next chapter is as amusing I'ma keep an eye on this

10642360
The Bismark was crippled by a frabic covered biplane...with ONE torp...

10642447
More accurately, it was hit by a plane dropping an air-to-sea torpedo (as in drops into the water where it then is supposed to blast below the waterline), in a miracle shot that hit the control mechanism.

The Bismarck was sunk by a mechanical malfunction from the plane dropping the torpedo too late. Some 'Hand of God' shit, right there!

10642154
Whats funny is that I actually have an Iowa class ship pony, complete with diagrams and stuff, as well as a friend's derpy-eyed Pensacola. (Blazing Barrage and Lucky Strike in that order.) Had help with the design thanks to Amary and NCmares.

But I was going to make comments regarding the (at the time) advanced targeting computer but let's be honest.

Shipmares are cool, and last I checked, if we had fk-off massive guns at our beck and call who wouldn't feel pride and feel like they can take on anything?

Ok you got me
Keeping an eye on this now

Oh boy

S E A S H A N T Y T I M E

10642466
My point was that both ships were susceptible to air attack, just like any other battleship, even the Iowa (though the risk to that ship would be drastically reduced).

Yes! I'm loving it

I have no clue how to improve this story so rather than offer advice to help you, I am just going to say that you are capturing both sources of material. I look forward to seeing more.

10642993
Requesting to be an editor or a proofreader maybe! I'd attempt to do it myself but I'm backlogged

Congratz, you got featured. 1/23/2021

All other details notwithstanding, being able to put one and a half tons of munition each at 42km in salvos of nine is rather impressive.

10642466
Could swear it was from the exchange with Hood that left one hobbled, the other dead.
Maybe relevant are the different operation theaters. Europe wasn't a majorly naval war as the Pacific, although the AA being poorly suited is also a new fact for me that sounds like an absurd waste.

Not saying they weren't too late for the era of battleships, for they definitively were, but that it was one hell of a bathtub is kinda indisputable.
Bismarck models look cooler though, Yamato had too much open space and was too center-heavy, looks weird.

So Yamato from Kantai Collection meet my little pony... 🤔

I know nothing of kancolle but this fic is making me interested the more I read
Thanks! I hope for some more chapters!

10642154
Pretty awful AA in general. Their main aa battery sucked.

10642331
Jap historians looked at potential face off and the edge is based off sea conditions. Clear day, yammy, storms, Iowa

I love it, just nothing else to say. Hope to see more of it. :twilightblush:

Personally, I'm an Azur Lane man, but I gotta give credit where it's due. Keep up the work.

*Cough cough* Who's your shipfu? *cough cough*

Hope she won't have to depend too much on those AA batteries, Japanese AA was top to bottom pretty worthless. While the long-range 5-inch guns were decent, the directors were out of date and couldn't cope with the increased aircraft performances of the 1940's. And the 25mm short range guns and their directors were an utter disaster. Somehow managing to combine excessive muzzle flash, smoke, and recoil, inadequate stopping power against robust American aircraft, and glacial mount speeds in training and elevation with if anything even more out-of-date gun directors than the 5-inch guns into one dizzyingly awful package.

this is.....unique....but I am so into this for some reason. you better not perma-hiatus it.

Story Page : "... hmm. Kancolle/Kantai Collection & MLP? Sounds up my alley of interest."
Chapter 1 : "My curiosity has been thoroughly piqued."
Chapter 2 : Pulls out a chair & something to drink. "Okay, now you've got my full attention."

This story, I like it! Another!

10643866
Oh I absolutely agree that Azure Lane is my preferred Shipfu simulator, but I just had to go with Kancolle because of the fact that Kancolle ships have their crew with them, and just how much better of an enemy the Abyssals are compared to the Sirens (although some of the operation siren bosses do look pretty cool). Amagi all the way as far as shipfu is concerned.

Can't wait for the next chapter. Question though, does anyone know of other stories like this? Kancolle/Azur Lane X MLP?

Is this Displaced? I haven't read the story.

10644018
Love the story, interesting take on things. Can't wait for the next chapter

10644580
Kinda. It doesn't start with the human having gone to a convention and buying a shipgirl rigging or anything like that, but it is a person from our world, given powers from another world, and sent to MLP. So I don't know if it would count as a traditional displaced story.

10644139
I don't know about any Azure Lane fics, but I do recall reading a discontinued story where Nightmare Moon is having a conversation with shimakaze from Kancolle, which was the only one I'm aware of.

Great story !!! I hope she will not be abandoned.

Love this story so far, please continue!

Well this certainly caught our interest fast. We eagerly look forward to another chapter.

I wrote one involving Yuudachi, a comedy. I'm glad to see someone else try their hand at this idea: it's such a unique take on the human-in-equestria idea and I've always wanted to see it explored by more people.

10645389
Looks like Kancolle to me

The first Kancolle SI outside of either Spacebattles and/or Sufficient Velocity that I've seen! Lets see how this goes

Another story with much potential. I am waiting with excitement to see what happens next.
