Kinda hope this does end with Dash managing to return.
Gilda, I don't mind staying on an island, but it'd be weird if Dash didn't return to the others even with her changes.
So it began. Make me wonder how much Gilda would have changed throughout the years after the journal.
A bit disappoint that you already stated this would be F/F fic. I kinda hope the Spirit would turn tomboyish Dash into a futa for Gilda.

The Pinkie Promise is a wise backup plan. Between that and Discord keeping an eye on Fluttershy, the spirit of the island has some stiff competition when it comes to ineffable power. But first the others need to catch up to Rainbow Dash, and that is very much easier said than done...

The spirit is cunning. It won't let in a mare who can easily escape. She'll need to gather supplies first, and that will take time. And time is all the island needs... though Gilda will also help matters.

Hmm... I personally think Rainbow found this island a bit too easy, without any lead no less. I mean, you set sail into the vast blue ocean without any target on direction to go and then you found your target just like that? It would be more believable if the Map showed the location to her beforehand.

In the very last chapter of the story before this the islands location only appeared for a few seconds but then disappeared once again. Plus, I also have a feeling that the Spirit of the Island allowed Rainbow Dash to find this place.
I'm sorry, but given that last line, I can only think one thing:

That was true, but nopony saw it when it appeared on the Map. Otherwise, it would make more fuss much earlier. However, I doubt the Spirit did guild Rainbow here since the beginning of the chapter stated that it only sense somepony coming but not sure who.
And so it begins. Rescue missions become a lot more complicated when each party thinks they're rescuing the other.

I'll try not to repeat myself too much, but like I said before, I do hope that Dash does manage to get back despite the changes. Especially with how much she'd be leaving behind

The purpose of Twilight's work isn't to get there, but to make sure they can get there and back. She already knows the location, but unlike Dash, she understood the risk that island presents and there's no sense running to their friend's rescue if they're gonna end up stuck like her.

Gonna let you in on a little spoiler: Twilight doesn't know exactly where the island is yet, but she knows it tends to "wander" within a specific part of the ocean. How they pinpoint its exact coordinates will be revealed in a future chapter.
Fascinating. A disembodied force like this will be tricky to work against. Still, there is a reason for Twilight's haste. The cavalry needs to be well-prepared, but there's still the matter of getting there while there's something left of Dash to rescue.

Well, that definitely isn't good. Though I can't imagine Dash will take bulking up well. Anything that worsens her aerodynamic profile is a hard no.
It'll take a lot to get through her defenses, if at all
Until it shot the Spirit with the Rainbow Canon.

Unless this Island Spirit could be reason with. If it would allow Gilda to go back to Equestria to show off her 'blessing' to the world, I am certain there would be a number of beings who would like to make a visit to the island. That's what we call marketing.
Definite cause for concern here. We'll see how the race against the clock pans out.
