Project due to yesterday delayed me, but here I am at last. And what a chapter it was. I would complain about miss Butterwing leaving her ID, but that was me who didn't read the whole chapter. I bet nobody nopony expected the story to go this way. A lot of callbacks/references too. So this is where we get a little more of what is going on. I still have no idea how the factory curse and the reckoning are going to interact. It is the most interesting chapter so far. Looking forward to the next chapter.
She comes so close to seeing the truth, and then utterly fails.
Rewinding all the way to Chapter One:
“What I really want to know is how you got away. No, I know Hide let you out, that’s not what I mean. How did you escape the Factory’s curse?” She shouted at Cloud Cover. “How did you get out, in one piece, and one mind, and live a fulfilling life? What did you do?”
She succeeded.
Where Rainbow Dash and Contrail and Hide Atmosphere and Gentle Butterwing and so forth all failed, Cloud Cover succeeded. She faced the Rainbow Factory, and she didn't sell her soul. You'd think that a one question test, consisting wholly of, "Should we murder children?" would be easy to pass, but there's an entire city built on failing it.
Anyway, it's the Rainbow Factory, where the failures pay their toll. Gentle Butterwing is a failure, Cloud Cover isn't. Only one of them has to pay.
(Ten to one says that Corona being driven to suicide had nothing to do with the factory's curse and everything to do with Cloudsdale being populated primarily by evil hateful ponies.)
Gentle Butterwing is absolutely right that Cloud Cover isn't a part of her "we", but she's so very wrong about why. The "we" that Gentle Butterwing is a part of is those who utterly failed in every significant ethical manner. Given that they shoved those who didn't fail into a meat grinder, Cloud Cover is part of a very exclusive group. She's the only one left alive who faced the Rainbow Factory and didn't willingly become a part of it and its horrors.
Wow, I had no idea you were still writing stories? How many stories long will this series be?

This story has one more chapter left to come out. There may be a follow-up story to this, but at most its in 'fantasy brainstorming' phase.
And yeah! I've been back since October! It's been great. =D

Huh. The ghosts saved her. Not surprising.
Oh fuck. What the fuck? Anyway I get kinda why Gentle did that but also smh rookie mistake. Always make sure you've won
I literally had to stop reading and set my phone down to stop myself from screaming at work.

Corona has killed a pony in PD, so the whole cursing thing seems likely too
