Shining/Gleaming's mindset throughout the story is easy to comprehend, and the way it morphs into realization feels very natural. Seriously though, this was superbly well-done. I was VERY gender-confused (I think that's a term) in high school, and you hit the nail square on the head, as far as I'm concerned. The conflicting feelings of "wrong" and "right" in particular. Should Cynewulf or someone else commission you to make a longer "transition / coming out" continuation story, I may be forced to squee like a 13-year-old girl at a BTS concert and bake them cookies. This is THAT awesome!

On the one hand, I agree that the "Shining Gets cucked/emasculated/humiliated" sub-genre is disturbingly popular these days. Not sure why people want to do that. Maybe some kind of schadenfreude in seeing the happily married, devoted father and brother guy get deconstructed and reduced? Or maybe it's anger? Of course, it could simply be that there are a larger proportion of trans people, trans women in specific, in the fandom than elsewhere, so they like to see idealized version of their own stories. Or see characters suffer what they did.
On the other, get the hell outta here with that "Alpha male" bullshit. I knew plenty of gay dudes in the Army. Hell, I'm bi and I served with distinction! Being a good and successful soldier has nothing to do with stereotypical depictions of masculinity or heterosexuality. Nor does being a good parent. You are aware that gay people can have biological children, through donors for lesbians or surrogates for gay men?

I'm not saying it's badly written, I just can't get into the whole weird gender feelings and gender confused protagonist thing. I keep trying yet, it just isn't my thing. I, for one, wouldn't mind seeing more of them. Especially when there's actual analysis and deep examination applied, alongside with scenes of erotic appeal.
To each their own, of course. It's perfectly okay to not gel with the subject matter. I just wish fics like this got acknowledged and commented on more. It takes passion, confidence, and more than a smattering of courage to put them up. Yes, even when using commissions as proxy.
Personally, I think honest responses are better than silent downvotes. So, kudos all around.

Ones that have analysis and deep examination elements applied to them. One's that don't focus so much on smut and sex, and focus on the greater things in life than just exotic eroticness. And I know there are plenty of them out there and many more being made, but I just wish they saw the light of day more often. Of course they don't pertain to this subject matter of being trans, but the things that I like.

It's both. The story is about a character exploring their gender identity through crossdressing and sissyfication which mirrors my own early exploration into gender.

This story hit very close to home for me and bittersweetly reminds me of the best parts of a past relationship. I love how Shiny is exploring and questioning himself, or herself as it might be, and I love that they don't know yet.
I love how amazingly supportive Cadence is.
I like the descriptions, It is well written, I like the outfits, the reactions of Shiny to his makeup beibg smeared, I like how attentive Cadence is, and that she let him take his own time to bring it up. I generally don't like anthro stories, but I really like this one.
Most of all though I love that it is a story I can identify. Some people seem to know exactly what they are, and that's good for them. For some of us it's hard to tell, and it might sway back and forth. I love how this story captured that.
