The opening conversation, especially Wallflower talking/musing (through the prose) about how she views herself and her relationship with Sunset, was really strong. These lines from the narrative in particular struck me as insightful:
Not everyone has the strength or energy or ability to be present for that work, but some people do, and Sunset is one of those people, and acknowledging that and letting her be there for that work is part of respecting her. If I push back every time she tries to help me, it makes it harder for her.
Really shows how much Wallflower has grown throughout this series. Such a great contrast to Air. Very nice to see.
“Bet that makes her a lotta fun on cold nights, eh?”
Oh God, Rosary, no... This is such an alpha lesbian thing to say (*cough*) but noooooooooo...
... but I’d always had a feeling that I wasn’t exactly ideal in that sense, for her.
Ideal? Wally, I'm pretty sure Sunset's fantasies begin and end with you. I'm sure she would do just about anything in bed that you wanted, even something as degenerate as you thought I'd actually spell something out here? Haha gottem.
Okay, levity over. More seriously, I'm already liking this fic for how seriously it treats sex. Not just in and of itself, but what it means for Wallflower and her relationship with Sunset. Grouping it in with the other "things" (and certainly part of the "Big (Bad) Thing") that threaten to drag Wally down shows how much is tied into it. Fear, expectation, shame, anxiety... All very real parts of having sex with anyone, much less the first time ever being with anyone. It's kind of sad how few stories on this site acknowledge the emotional/relational significance of intimacy. I can tell this is going to be one of those stories that earn the Mature tag in terms of more than just physical action.
And the first thing’s first on this, if you’re not ready, then you’re not ready, okay? And if you’re never ready? That’s okay, too.”
Rosary is just the best.
“If I uhm, if I did want to… to make a move. How would I do it?”
10646342 First off: That's probably one of the most on-brand expressions for Starlight Glimmer that I've ever seen.
Secondly, yeah, there was no other way to approach sex vis a vis Wallflower Blush except with the utmost seriousness. A huge part of how I tend to approach sex in general is as a way of exploring personal intimacy. I don't think I'm capable of writing 'just porn' because everything has to develop the character or the story or the relationships between the characters in some manner. There can be no wasted words. I'm really glad that's how that came across.
Also yeah. Rosary has gotta be one of my favorite OC's I've ever written.
