I personally like stories with ambiguous characters with a gray morality and this story is similar to this.

The show works well within the limitations of being a kids cartoon. Fanfiction has no such limitations. I'm generally fine with how Chrysalis is portrayed in the show, I just found the possibility of a different story to be fascinating. If anything, all of my fics are made to honour the show and expand upon them, not to "correct" them.
