Ok, this one is definitely an improvement from the previous story I commented, but two things stuck out for me to criticize.

the first is the mention of the macabre river at the start.

cries.

The Macabre River

I

This form of mentioning it could be ominous if done one time at first, but you do it three times, which made it kind of a joke (I couldn't help but imagine violins playing dramatically every time), and even as a joke, the repetition would kill it.

The second is at the end, when Braeburn discovers it, I just wondered why he didn't say anything until 2 years later? Wasn't his job to see what was happening in the river? Wasn't it the reason he went in the first place?

Outside of those two things the story has some errors in the writing that a second look could fix, but even so it's quite the good start to a creepy story, and I was really invested in seeing what he was going to find at the end.

This is definitely an improvement, so keep at it and you will end up with a masterpiece in no time.
