The Bricklayer

Slow down, you're doing fine, you can't be everything you want to be, before your time... -Vienna, The Stranger: Billy Joel. (Any Pronouns)

T

New school? New friends? Wait a moment, what? Last Sunset checked she was perfectly happy with Canterlot High!

...And here Sunset thought waiting till the week was over and everything blew over would be the least of her troubles. Crack, and oh did I mention crack? The fact that there is no parody tag annoys me.

Warning: SNARK!

That was hilarious.

10114256
Sunset wasn't the only one so completely done with things.

10114263
So I could tell. This genre's been stale for a while.

10114272
It's -ahem- beating it with a dead horse really.

10114280
Especially given how beaten Sunny often gets.

10114294
badum tiss But seriously. Sunset being locked in a warehouse and beaten? Why does she never fight back? I mean, hello. She's a young woman, a pretty young woman at that. She'd be stupid not to learn self-defence. Or you know, not carry a taser and pepper spray.
That's one stupid Anon-A-Miss cliche that always bugged me.
Making Sunset completely defenseless.

10114322
In Solar Eclipse, Sunset is absolutely lethal.

10114331
Yes well, there's only a certain amount you can do before you completely break suspension of disbelief as well. Which was the other joke with the 'fight' scene.

10114358
Very true.

Though, in that author's defence (Hattafan2593), she was attempting to push the setting to extremes.

Huh, an interesting take on things. I rather like it actually, never been a big fan of Anon-a-Miss anyway, you did a nice job poking fun at it while actually telling a decent story, good work.

Also Rainbow still believes in Santa? Somehow that made me chuckle the most.

10114373
Yeah, not sure if it ended up as funny as I originally intended it to, but I think a good read should touch all the emotions. It should make you laugh, make you cry, touch the heart. And hey, if I someone improve the quality of these fics yay. But yeah, you're better off staying far away from that whole mess.

Also, yes she does. Yes she does.

I was reading this Ladybug fiction that basically ripped and tore PuToTyra style into saltfic cliches.

...PuToTyra? As in...OOO's?! What?

10114524
Don't suppose you know where one can find it, do ya?

And with perhaps some exceptions...yeah, Anon-A-Miss stories are a dime a dozen, aren't they; largely involving hitting the Rainbooms with an even larger stupid stick thereby pushing Sunset into the arms of their preferred girlfriend for her.

10114556
Well, when I said it was going full PuToTyra I was only being metaphorical with how savage it was but, yeah here you go. Shoulda linked it anyways now that I think of it.

But yeah, you are absolutely right. Everyone gets hit with either A, the stupid stick or B, the angry bitchy stick. Sometimes both. I really think can pretty much say "Read one Anon-a-Miss fic, read them all" pretty much over half the time. It's rare that I see something actually legit interesting.

So, I would say that Anon-a-Miss is done way more than Chameleon fics (partially due to AAM being out longer, and mlp has a whole site devoted to fanfics.) Mlb (because the only difference in initials just has to be the last letter flipped) still has a fair amount. But, they also focus on other Lila lying get Mari in trouble episodes, like Ladybug. But Lie-la and AAM are basically equivalents. (Note, I did just read the fic you talked about because you linked it in a comment, and it was great, but I think I found yours a bit better, having to have dealt with more AAM.) For both, I like reading one shot comedy fics about that matter. Both also have 2 routes. 1) move schools get new friends. 2) one of the current friends believe and stand up for the protaganist. I think the main difference between Lie-la and AAM is this: AAM is basically considered not canon, while Lie-la is a problem that has been affecting over 2/3 of the series, as season 3 is done, and it started end if S1. Now, if only mlp:eqg fans took after the mlb fans and started writing about other similar scenarios that happened (I'm saying give me more "Best Left Forgotten" [memory stone] content EQG fandom!!! Similar thing, can be taken so many different ways and is hardly written about.)
Yeah, but good fic, and thank for the lesson in moderation of salt (and the fact that pepper meeds to be a thing, too.)

That was demented and weird as frack. Have a thumbs up.

The worst part is that people write the story as if Sunset is a perfect girl that did no wrong— like guys, Sunset was a bully to the entire school before, she did plenty have nasty things as well. There has only been one story, one story, that featured Anon-Miss that not only treated all the characters with genuine respect but actually added it's own spin on it. I suggest you check it out if you haven't read it already, it's absolutely amazing.

10114646
AAM stories I've given a "pass" to and would be willing to read are those that allow Sunset's home to be involved...or in the case Seven Saviors and its sequel, having at least one Rainboom be on Sunset's side...helpful that it's Fluttershy. :twilightblush:

If I were to come up with a story that'd "fix" things, one thing I'd do would be to not have every Rainboom go against Sunset; Applejack and Rarity I could get since their secrets were the first, Rainbow would be a maybe but her "secret" of not having genius-level intellect? Yeah, I don't buy it. Pinkie and Fluttershy? I really don't get since we never learn about what secrets of theirs were posted...though as I'm typing this, I'm looking at the comic and seeing what happened to Flutters...as well as where Sunset was bludgeoned with the stupid stick.

How is it that as soon as she saw the profile did she not say something like, "Do you guys really think the old me would've gotten as far as I did if I was this sloppy?" Point out how the profile pic clearly points in her direction as the culprit. And while AJ gets onto Bloom for pointing the finger at Sunset, that should've nagged at the back of her mind for a spell.

It's drama for the sake of drama.

10114747
Yeah, Lila is more of a prevalent thing in the fandom, largely for two reasons. A, unlike Anon she doesn't show up once and is never mentioned again. B, she is meant to be despised. Astruc himself said it. So, yeah.

10114784
Weird and demented. :rainbowlaugh: I'm going to be remembering that one. You sir, have made my night.

10114808
Exactly! This, just this. Sunset is always treated as this perfect little angel, when we know from canon she hasn't always been that way. Hell, even in Friendship Games she has some anger issues. I blame the whole waifu thing for this perfect little angel garbage really. And for the record, I have read that fic. Never fails to make me smile for how real everyone feels. Not demons, not angels but just real people. Two thumbs up.

10114881
Everyone got with the stupid stick. It is basically that, drama for drama's sake.

10114896
Definitely after the second sleepover cause even with everyone in the school teasing her, Applejack remains - least on the outside - calm. Soon as the pics come out though, everyone's ready to lynch Sunny. And I've seen the conversation you had mentioning Sunset's past...which adds to the lack of logic in her not bringing up how sloppy it'd be for her to call herself "Anon-A-Miss"...and then using her own silhouette for the profile pic.

Offhand, Forgotten Friendship's not much better since it too is missing some logic in its drama.

10114322
More than making Sunset defenceless, what always bugged me about those stories is that there is a mob out to beat Sunset at all. The worst we saw Sunset get in the comic was a shove, and none of the secrets we actually learn about are bad enough to make the kids actually want to hospitalize, nevermind outright murder Sunset. This is still CHS for crying out loud! Peaceful countryside high school, not a high school in the middle of a crime ridden city.

I really like how meta this story was. It was like Sunset was transported into a typical Anon-a-Miss fanfic.

10115052
I will be sorta fair here. In my personal experience, teenagers are hormonal messes, sometimes ruled by their temper. So yeah, even as trivial as the secrets are, I can sorta see it.

10115114
It's drama for drama's sake, and really like a lot of modern Anon-A-Miss stories this frankly stupid cliche goes back to Dainn.

this was great good job loved it

As for the faceless thugs? They went down in a show of badassery that even the author can’t describe. No, it’s totally not just because he’s a hack, so shut up and stop looking at me like that okay?

No worries. They're faceless thugs. Any direct interaction with them will be glossed over in the narrative; that's just how they work.

In any case, delightful madness throughout. And I have to appreciate any story that not only mocks Anon-a-Miss and scorns "Dazzlings in Leather Pants," but also has Sunset wake up in an unfamiliar universe. Thank goodness for poorly written schlock science. The Sciset was icing on a wonderful cake. Thank you for this.

Exactly, nobody ever gives a thought to the poor faceless mooks! They should form a union! Honestly though, the whole everyone wants to beat up Sunset is so dumb. Keroko mentioned this and she's(?) absolutely right. This is a country town, not the Big Apple. Not to mention Sunset can totally identify them and get them arrested. #RealityEnsues

The schlock science I just went into giggle fits over, more so when I realized Sunset would have to play by the rules of the world. And yeah, unless you really make it work, -or just, y'know use the human counterparts- the Dazzlings in Leather Pants trope is beyond over with. They're honest to god sociopaths!

10115325
Oh, here's another one for the drama for drama's sake: Twilight being unreachable. Nevermind that in the actual comic people claim to fix, Twilight was a pillar of support for Sunset to lean on and the one whose advice led to Sunset reconciling with the other girls. Nope, drama demands Sunset is completely alone, so Twilight vanishes until Sunset has suffered and the time comes for her to read the other girls and/or the school the riot act.

10115402
It's not as if you can't redeem the Dazzlings (that's kind of a thing in MLP after all), but you do have to actually, y'know, redeem them. Not pretend they were good guys all along. Especially not by also pulling a Rainbow Dash the Death Eater to make them look better by comparison. Rainbow Dash sicking a lynch mob on Sunset has not, nor will it ever, make sense.

10115563
Ugh, so not the drama to borrow a phrase. Yeah, the all-powerful plot must demand Sunny must be alone to face the woes even if it flys in the face of all logic. Or worse, when someone from Equestria does show up, it's only to make Equestria look better, by comparison. Newsflash, ponies can be just as dumb as human beings at times. Yes, even Princess Celestia, aka the most forgiving pony on the planet. ...not that stops writers from making her all holier than thou.

Agreed, Friendship is Magic is the show's title for a reason. Mind you, you have to really make it believable. And Attack Dog Dash is soooooo dumb. Ahem, Element of Loyality here?

10115325
Eh, people, in general, can be ruled by their emotions; course, people also have personal checks and balances in logic...least after they cool off.

Sunset awoke with a groan, stuffing the pillow over her head. Let it be said she was never a morning person. “I dun wanna godo majik skool.. phive murr minudes, Prinzzess Celeshia...” she mumbled in her half awake, half-asleep state.

I love majik skool. It's my favorite place.

Reaching for her taser, Sunset sighed as Gilda went down in a heap. Rainbow was soon to follow with a combination of mace and a punch to the gut. As for the faceless thugs? They went down in a show of badassery that even the author can’t describe. No, it’s totally not just because he’s a hack, so shut up and stop looking at me like that okay?

:rainbowlaugh: my sides! Augh! I can't stop!
This was frickin hilarious.

I love salt fics myself and I think I saw the story you were talking about, the lila salt stories I think are more forgivable because she’s still a problem in the show and I think the chameleon episode helped open up fans to the problems fo the show that fans had even ignoring or not brought up for so long

I like normal fics and salt and I am actually happy it could lead more to anti Chloe fics as before that I actually struggled to find fics that have her faced deserved punishment before

But I am tired of pairing her with Damian, I support people’s right to ship what they want but in my head marinette would not even tolerate Damian Wayne left alone date him

But I am tired of pairing her with Damian, I support people’s right to ship what they want but in my head marinette would not even tolerate Damian Wayne left alone date him

Oh dear god don't even get me started on this whole nonsense. What I can figure out about Damien, he'd sooner call Marinette a nut and bite her head off then date her. He's a bit of a jackass. ...okay understatement of the century there. I don't get it, of all the romantic substitutes in the world, why the Batfamily? Yes, it keeps Marinette in the superhero community but... just, why?

I can't believe it took me this long to finally get down to reading this. DX God I'm kicking myself for that.

This was good reading. I already knew I was in for a treat when the very first paragraphs showed Sunset being a mature and rational person about the whole Anon-a-Miss debacle and understanding that it was anger in the heat of the moment, that her friends *did* have reason to suspect her due to her past actions... and the fact that there were already a few apology texts too. I mean, God, that was one big breath of fresh air and wonderful show of realism for this tired rotten zombie of a subgenre.

And then there were all the other pisstakes of the clichés as well. Sunset going to CPA, sociopathic Rainbow Dash, Sunset being treated as a porcelain doll, disproportionate "protection" against aforementioned Rainbow Dash... and honestly, the conversation with Sci-Twi was honestly really sweet. And so was the conclusion to this as well. (Great joke at the very end too about the Dazzlings. :rainbowlaugh:)

10146022
Oh yeah, I had a lot of fun with this one. Zombie genre indeed!

10146177
I could tell. That probably added a lot to the fun of reading. XD

I admit, once or twice I've kicked around a few Anon-a-Pisstakes of my own, but the sheer infamy of the subgenre also turns me away from it in some respects. Like, regardless of whether or not my ideas for a story tearing apart the premise would be GOOD, I just know that there'd be people who'd never ever want to even look at it by virtue of it being another Anon-a-Miss fic. :applejackunsure:

10146194
Well, this should give you hope right?
