The Bricklayer

Slow down, you're doing fine, you can't be everything you want to be, before your time... -Vienna, The Stranger: Billy Joel. (Any Pronouns)

T

Gallus, Jedi Knight. Who would have thought it? And with a Padawan to boot!

Problem, his Padawan Luster Dawn really spends way too much time in the archives. Trip 'round to Maz's just may do the trick, show her how to live a little.

Second problem: Gallus is in no way prepared for the memories this stirs up.

(Star Wars crossover, obviously)

This seems intriguing.

Several questions for sure. Why Luster with Gallus for one. Birdbrain works as a Jedi. Luster I'd think would be more with Twilight.

And seeing as Equestria does exist, and the Republic knows about it, I'm surprised we don't see more from Equus. Only these two... Not cool.

Why Luster with Gallus?

I mean, why not? They both represent the new generation, the next generation of Friendship, and let's be honest Luster's such an open book to be explored. Who says she has to be taught by Twilight in every universe?

10052326
Or to use regular words. Because it sounded cool.

Hey, what is this a crossover with?

Is this the same Gallus from the Spyro crossover?

This seems to be an interesting universe as Asoka is stated as a padwan but we have the Death Watch and the code from the new show. I do wonder what Max would have thought of the Legends universe instead of the Disney universe?

10052447
Uh........ No. What gave you that impression?

10052436
Star Wars, largely the Clone Wars era or possibly an AU as such.

10052459
Yeah, I, on purpose I might add, left a lot of things open to interpretation. As I said, is there a war going on or isn't there? However, I am curious about what you mean by the Code from 'the new show' as really the Legends version of the code had more little facets to it. Such as respecting your Padawan and conquering Materialism. The 'canon' code only reads now:

There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
There is no death, there is the Force.

I was referring to the Mandolin Code that was introduced during The Mandolin. One of its parts was no removing of the helmet in front of anyone.

10053113
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Yeah, that. Well, to be fair they may not have been there to eat or drink. They could have been there for the latest in bounties.

“No, I don’t want to buy some deathsticks. I want you to go home and rethink your life,”

“No, I don’t want you to buy some deathsticks. I want to go home and rethink my life.”

I got no joke. That's still funny.

But all in all, not bad. Very nice Star Wars fluff, solid job with characterization of Gallus, And of course, plenty of nice little nods here and there. Admittedly I don't think I caught all of them, but I did recognize most of them, so that's cool. Very nice little fluff piece.

good fun little one shot and i found gallu sverry interesting in it and his views of his padawan kudos

No, I'm really not sorry for that reference. I just had to. Like, I had to, as soon as I remembered that exchange I just had to do it here.

Yeah, I tried to pay homage to as many parts of the Star Wars mythos as I could, pay each and every bit the respect it was due. Sequels, Clone Wars Era, the lot. There's a reason I chose Maz's castle actually, it always felt so warm and inviting when we saw it on Awakens. I even had a selection of the various cantina music playing in the background while I wrote the scenes, such as Jedi Rocks and Jabba Flow. Just to get the right atmosphere.

If you need, I can send you a list of every reference I did, just for the record.

10053376
Yeah, if only more Jedi could be as open-minded as him eh? My only regret is Luster didn't get as much focus as I'd have liked, really given she basically played second fiddle to Gallus here, really in some respects. Still, I enjoyed writing this. Poor Gallus though, as if this takes place in the Clone Wars he is going to be in for a nasty surprise in a few years with Barriss/his girlfriend. Oh, come on, you know they were flirting. I wrote it that way intentionally.

THIS IS THE WAY.

Cute story. Hope they don't get killed by Order 66.

10054680
This is the Way. But really, Gallus is in for a shock/heartbreak if this is the prime timeline. I mean, I intentionally wrote his and Barriss' interactions as if they were flirting, as mentioned in a prior comment.

I enjoyed reading this. I especially found "the Kenobi maneuver" part funny, because of course people would name a mind trick after Obi-Wan. I also enjoyed seeing a lot of the different elements of Star Wars here - Maz's castle, the Jedi, Mandalorians, weird aliens, it was just really nice.

One little thing I'd suggest though? In this passage here--

“Not sure how Master Kenobi will think of us naming little maneuvers after him,” Gallus replied. “Sure, might flatter Anakin Spinning is a Good Trick Skywalker but Master Kenobi? Not sure about that.”

I'd suggest putting quotes or at least an apostrophe around "Spinning is a Good Trick" because the first time I read it I completely misunderstood what it was and it took a few repeat looks to figure out that we were talking about a nickname for Skywalker! Just a nitpick, other than that, you're pretty good on the grammar/spelling for this. XD

Fixed that little issue you pointed out. And thanks for the feedback. My main worry was that I went a little too far with the nerdiness. Like, Grummgar alone, I'm not even sure if he was actually alive in that time period. Probably wasn't.

But yeah, Maz's castle. Always seemed so warm and inviting, especially compared to hives of scum and villainy like Mos Eisley and Nevarro. Like, yeah sure it's still a tavern filled with space scum but it's a castle that's been turned into a tavern. Plus, Maz seems like the type who would want people to take their 'union disputes' outside, so to speak.

And you totally know Anakin was probably the one to get everyone calling that little trick the Kenobi Maneuver. Probably spurred on by Snips.

10073599
No problem. And while I can get your worries, I think you didn't go too far at all. There's "nerdy" and then there's nerdy, you know?

And I totally agree about Maz's castle. It's a place with a lot of history, clearly, but it manages to look genuinely kinda fun and not like the place where you'd need to keep a blaster or weapon within easy reach at all times - Mos Eisley anyone?

Oh yeah, it'd totally be Anakin to coin a nickname after his master. No arguments. :rainbowlaugh:

Probably spurred on by Snips.

Oh God, my very first thought when I read that was "Snips and Snails, what do they have to - ohhh." Dang it! XD

Yeah, I did have at least one complaint that I may have gone too far into Star Wars nerdom in my quest to capture that sense of a wider galaxy. Like, it's hard to get so many alien species on page, compared to say film or animation when you can just drop in as many as you can.

And I totally agree about Maz's castle. It's a place with a lot of history, clearly, but it manages to look genuinely kinda fun and not like the place where you'd need to keep a blaster or weapon within easy reach at all times - Mos Eisley anyone?

"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy." Yep. With this piece, I had some of the more chill Star Wars pieces playing in the background, like Lapti Nek and most of the cantina songs. Needed to get that right mood, the proper atmosphere conductive to writing this place. And yeah, a lot of history. Those underground catacombs Rey found herself in? Clearly, they're strong in the Force. There's a reason I have a sneaking suspicion this was once a Jedi Temple.

Oh God, my very first thought when I read that was "Snips and Snails, what do they have to - ohhh." Dang it! XD

:rainbowlaugh:

I think someone might have already said it, but Luster being in the story as she is doesn't really work. She barely adds anything that I could see.

Her being Gallus' Padawan is weird. But not the craziest idea ever. I think a better use for her, would have been for Gallus to meet her at the end for the first time, and there he learn she's his new Padawan.

Either on returning to Coruscant, or Luster ends up meeting him out in the galaxy. Maybe even at Maz's.

And let's be honest. Gallus and Anakin would get along great, I feel. One fly boy meets another. Among other things.
