Well, that certainly went in an unexpected direction. Good on you for walking a path I haven't run across yet.

I was expecting Rarity to become jealous that Twilight became better at her than something she used to be praised for, but then it went in another, still interesting, direction.

Some of the exposition at the start was a bit awkward, but I thought it was interesting to explore different magic types and creating a virtual magic store. Incorporating computer concepts into magic is usually neat.

You did a good job making Twilight feel alien by the end.

"My not being able to do what you just did Twilight isn't some factor of practise, it's inescapable fact."

Pretty sure Twilight wasn't supposed to just say her name there, unless it is some kind of foreshadowing I don't get.

Otherwise, it is an interesting question. Twilight changed her"self", but why should she identify more with the clay she worked than with the will that worked that clay? I don't know if I'd say it was Dark. Sad, sure, for Rarity, but puberty is a confusing time and sometimes friendships started in childhood don't make it through that upheaval. Doesn't mean you should stay a child forever. A major cause of relapse for alcoholics is that their whole social circle is founded around drinking. That's part of the reason why programs like AA are successful, because they provide a new social circle. Hopefully, Twilight finds a Mortals Anonymous group out there in the stars.

I'm an idiot.
I usually don't read stories tagged as 'sad'. Because I cannot cope with those very well. Didn't notice the tag on this one, though.
This was a really, really well-crafted story. Makes it hurt so much more. This was my fault, and I'm sorry.
