Troublesome Beast

I don't know, man. Those weasels were on fire when I got here.

Shining Armor has always been a hero, especially to his family. He's a strong right arm for his wife-- sometimes literally, when she wants to rest her head on his right bicep. He's been a brother and mentor for his sister, and now is proud to be one of the archmages serving her as the Princess of Magic.

And he is a father. Which means sometimes, he has to field the tough questions.

Doubly so at bedtime.

Little Flurry Heart is a born alicorn. Just today, she saw a brilliant pony make the transition between 'here' and... where? She isn't sure. Her father has been a protector to her, she knows that in a vague, happy sense. A teacher, and a storyteller. A question-answerer.

"I need an explanation, Daddy."

"Okay, Chirpy Bird. I can tell you any story you want."

I clap for this.

This is... wonderful. That's all that comes to mind. Peace and tranquility, my friend.

9615988 9615978 9615818 Thank you very much. It started from speculation about the alicorns more in a spiritual nature, and then the idea of Love as a connector of afterlives, and then just this idea of what Cadance would have ready for Shining. Ageless does not mean invincible. And the rest flowed out from there.

The least, oddly enough, were one of the cousin-tribes, the donkeys. The technomancers among them were given to fits and starts of almost insane creativity with the physical world, but all but the most dedicated simply couldn't do anything with the preternatural.

Ooh, Palaververse.

sometimes, they end more randomly than daddy's dice that Flurry Heart isn't supposed to eat.

Heh. Not the first tabletop gamer to face that problem, not the last.

Or Aunty Pinkie explanations, which always, always involved cake in some manner.

"Cake ties ponies together. It exalts us, unifies us. Sugary beings are we, not this bland matter."

Beautiful stuff. I don't comment on the incredible worldbuilding you do nearly enough, since most of your other stories... Yeah. :twilightsheepish: Still, great work all around. Thank you for it.

Coming from a master world-builder, that's high praise. But I merely work around the shoulders of giants. Most of my stuff may be too starts-with-p-rhymes-with-pony to be truly connected to the Palaververse, but I did ask if I could use some of the presumptions. Especially back when we had less detail, it felt very solid and interconnected.

... Honestly right now given some current season decisions I _still_ think that world makes more sense, and since mine departed seasons back, I'm proud to still adhere to that fanon. Glad you enjoyed! The majority of my inspiration is rated differently, but there are some things in most of the big ones that aren't. It all just takes place in contexts that I usually feel it better to attach to the others; I respect peoples' filters.

If I get out of my current health-hole, I might explore more of those aspects; this is definitely a capital D-divine alicorn 'verse. Even if Celestia is still horrified by the Burning Times and has socially squished most religions direct at her.. She was absent when they were built, those are temples to her that Daring Do explores, in my mind. But she has still kept up the lonely center and orbital mechanics of the supernatural as much as the natural for the last thousand years, and she's very slowly handing those duties off to the Six (slightly faster though not fast enough to Luna).

Thank you for this. Just... thank you. It's a really good story, thank you for it.

I'm not around a lot anymore. Pain, and other things, keep me away, but... So long as this made your life a bit better, I'm glad it's had a chance to serve its purpose.

May the Rainbow Remind You.

That was a good story.
