Oh neat,we get to see Gearing deep seeded secret of wanting to be a flesh and blood pony and a full fledged member of the herd. I take it that Gearing has created a good business relation with Bottle Cap, better then Black Jack in comparison.
Still I wonder when we will get back to the main mystery outside of the stable a little again, the cookie ark was a big improvement in keeping interest outside of the drama happening in the group, but it still feels he is on one side quest to another without much of a hint of an overarching plot at the moment, other then to go where Gearing feels like going. I do like the foreshadowing with the Reapers and Steel Rangers but I an seriously wondering what's happening back at the stable, sense it's feels so long sense we heard of them.

Yeah, each of the little 'past scenes' that are revealed give various glimpses into the overall picture. One of the ones THIS one brings up is indeed Gearing's feelings about his curse. And that is something that gets delved into more and more as the story progresses.
And, yes, Gearing has been working on developing that relationship for a variety of reasons. And he knows it's best to 'talk the language' of those you're wanting to work with. So in that regard, he's definitely got a better business relationship with Bottlecap than Blackjack. But, to be fair, that's because Blackjack and Gearing have different methodologies and goals with what they're doing.
As for the 'side quests' going on, the individuals of the group do have their OWN goals. And Gearing has a few specifically for his own that he doesn't share with others that will be talked about more over the next couple chapters and onward. But, they will be making their way back to 68 after doing a few things they need / want to do. I don't want to give too much information for the sake of spoilers, but, yeah, they aren't abandoning the stable and all of the occupants.
