Alex Warlorn

Just your average Brony who happened upon an idea that might actually turn out to be clever enough for guys to love.

This story is a sequel to Conversion Merpony

"Hi! I used to be human! But now I'm not! The world as we knew it is coming to an end! But I still gotta provide for my family! Same as any other working man! Do what you're good at, and be proud of what'cha do!"

Now this was awesome. Surprising there aren't more stories about Changelings being master thieves, they have the perfect skillset for it.

I imagine people are fixated on the 'poor misunderstood changelings, they just had a bad leader is all.'

Makes sense most humans wouldn't understand the black changelings are literally worse off than their colorful counterparts, just a little though and its clear the black coloration, leg holes and ragged wings is from improper feeding habits not good or evil. Sure Film and Flam play up the "goodie good" rep ponies have to con the hell outta "Earthlings". Ponies are on the whole more gregarious than humans, but there are pony conmen.

Personally I find it very disturbing how ponies are supposed to be spreading the enlightened view of friendship, and yet the majority of villains have been ponies!!!

"People love to think they're smarter than others, and the more different you are from someone, the smarter than them you are! And ponies are as different as different could be."

Funny how he says this, yet he's been styling himself as some genius thief and belittling others for being "morons" this whole chapter, influding calling furries "pathetic-shut ins".

"Those ponies are naive, they don't understand that people can love and still do evil things. Like how Nazis had loving families, and would go home to those loving families after a hard day's work at the death camps!"

Goodness, could he have chose a worse comparison, it's like a twisted version of Godwin's Law. Merely having a family doesn't absolve you of crime. I get this guy is supposed to be a scumbag, but he's taking this to extreme heights.

On a different note, I recall you saying you didn't want to write a chapter on changelings because you don't like their new designs, what changed?

I found a way to do it ironically.

Thank you for the comment!

A glimpse of the minotaurs huh.

And changeling scam artist both seems perfectly expected, and delightfully ironic. Particularly, as he says, they aren't looking for his kind of changeling. The cons you described are pretty fun though. And that action at the end. I think this is one of your longer ones, but it was amazing.

I think it speaks to the misunderstanding how a change looks depends on how they feed, not their moral compass.

9246029
That's the beauty of it and what makes it a glorious scam XD They basically scammed the entire conversion process so they could scam for money :rainbowlaugh:

9246030
Same thing with Amoral Ponies, playing up everyone's idea that ponies are all moral and sweet. Tempest Shadow is a pony but she can stomp your ass. Film and Flam will rip you off. Heck there are ponies with cutie marks for being henchmen!

Just the ones created by prototype testing of the potion.

EXACTLY! Ponies and changelings alike think turning pretty colors must mean they're good now, rather than a change in diet.

The cons you described are pretty fun though.

Did some research for those. I found I couldn't write the guy unless his marks were suckered in by their own greed as much as him.

Heh. You haven't read Pony POV Series.

Thank you for the comment!

Yeah, I only really follow the Conversion series. Never got around to the POV Series. I have WAY too much on reading list already XD Maybe one day.

Sounds like the author is a fan of The Stainless Steel Rat series by Harry Harrison. The writing for the main character here reads very similar to that for 'Slippery Jim' diGriz.

Tell me more. I hope you enjoyed it.

9307419
It was an interesting read; the character is likable and definitely has a patter to his thoughts.

I just wonder if Queen Chrysalis has tried to 'contact' the black changelings in regards to incorporating them into a hive mind. By force, if necessary.

9310860
We've seen no signs changelings use a hive mind... other than always agreeing with the leader.

This makes me think Moist von Lipwig would ponify extremely well.

So was all work stopped on the minotaur potion, or are the ponies trying to develop one that doesn't make new minotaurs go crazy for long pig?

9329782
I'll leave that up for whoever writes it.

When changelings first appeared, all of the fan fics surrounding them were fascinating. Many wrote them as having some kind of hivemind because it made sense for their form and diet. Another big trope was writing changelings as having no comprehensible individual personality. In order to be understood they had to take a form where they would then take on the full personality of that being. Honestly, the old rules made far more sense than the new ones. It bugs me that all of the changelings were transformed at once. Many fan stories had this happen, but over time where the changeling would actually become full of given love rather than poof-done.
