He who overcomes shall inherit all things.

E

Happy Trails was a human before he was a pony. With no hope of returning home, he wanders the furthest corners of the earth, hoping to get as lost as he feels. But the only interdimensional traveler in Equestria has been stranded long enough to have history. History that follows him, and leaves only ashes behind.

Gertie the griffon always wanted to fit in. She never will. But Happy Trails is also alone. Perhaps being alone together will make the road easier.

In a remote village at the end of the world, two castaways might finally find themselves.

Hm, interesting so far.

...Huh. That was pretty cool.

I rather like this start. It's a neat mix, and very unusual mix of quiet and loud, in culture.

I don't think people have anything to be so nervous about...yet.

inspired by austraeoh?

Mark me intrigued.

Hmm, a promising start, pretty interesting. The lack of an overly detailed exposition and introduction is quite fitting for the mood.

Fascinating griffonian caste system, strong characterization, compelling setting...

Oh yes, I'm definitely on board with this one.

Somebodies gotta stand up for the little guy!

Gizmonks! A relic from G1. Really something I'd expect to see in G4. Sad they never did.
And "supplicated?" Thats a super old word. Is the main character a great grandpa?

Huh. A bit more insight into Trails and a very nice use of a G1 species. Fascinating stuff.

Judging by his flashback to Earth while drinking that liquid nostalgia, I'd say he got sent to Equestria at some point in the mid-20th century at the latest.

I wonder whose mug of ale it was, the one that hit him in the face

Interesting note on the echoes of what was. The flashes, the moments, and the rage simmering beneath.

Huh..

I am right curious about the fire. As only humanity can truly be.

And while its one thing to be feared and respected. More so to consider just who he is to really have these weapons, these kind of creations.

So, let us see where the onion unravels at Mr Trails.

Well, I mean, the dragon king is dead.

Fear.

Raw, animal fear. Trails never felt that back home. His fears then were sophisticated. Philosophical. A child’s fright seeing his parents argue about things he did not understand. The twist in his heart when he looked over the farm’s accounts and saw numbers that never added up. The grinding anxiety of land that drank and only got more thirsty, of seeing clouds of dust reaching to the sky on the horizon, of letters ignored on his desk.

Those were the fears of man. Chased away by drinking and staring into a crackling fireplace. Fire was a man’s comfort. No more unnatural than a blanket or a chair. Only animals were afraid of fire.

Today, Trails was an animal.

Those lines, grab you, seizes you, and doesnt let go until the chapter ends. You set a harsh and human pace. And its great.

The next passage shows how often this has been done, how mechanical it is.

The fight is brutal, visceral, and ugly. It is everything a fight should be. And when he acts, truly acts. We get the taste of our villain, or foe. And it is a mighty juggernaut.

And I love such a force of nature type, they are rare, hard to do, and few give a malevolence like this.

This story will not be nearly as long, but yeah I'd say it was just a little bit!

Thank you. Part of the reason this chapter was short but took a while is because I wanted the Knight's appearance to be as punchy as I imagined. A monster whose whole existence revolves around singular objectives. Glad it worked out!

Its like a magical terminator of fire, lava, and death.

Excellent chapter, and I love your prose. It's good to see that you're still writing this.

I, erf. No wonder the gryphons are getting the way they are.

If all you do is fight like that, its not really progress, just playing musical chairs with awful punchlines...

Whoof. Sounds like they both need a solid dose of some friendship! Oh, and also there's a monster I guess.

Aww yeah, it's back.

Damn, what a brutal outlook on life from those gryphons.
