Abstract:
For millenia, the habits and life cycles of dragons were largely a mystery to ponykind. However, with the signing of the Treaty of Ponyville (1003) and the subsequent opening of trade relations, new opportunties for their study have emerged. In this letter we a case study in the dragons' molting cycle and the role it plays in the social and biological development of adolescent dragons.

Excellent dissertation.

It feels like something Twilight would write and present on the show. I would be interested in reading another!

Good story, sounds just like Twi. I would venture that the shed stone scales would be some type of metamorphic rock. Most likely a schist from the odor

Metamorphic seems probable, but what schists have an odor? A quick google suggests Antozonite may be a candidate.

This seems an opportunity for a follow-up collaboration with Maude...

Oh that reminds me I forgot to explain why it's called a letter in the author's notes. Disserations are usually longer. :P

Just a thought of you do continue this: Wouldn't the Bloodstone Scepter make for an excellent subject of magical study? It seems unlikely that Twilight would be allowed to properly analyze it but she could at least ask Ember questions.

Hmmm, yes it's a possibility, but the problem is there's not enough in the show to even elaborate. Perhaps the dragon rites of succession would be a better overall topic.

how about a story where ember is caught molting by spike........lol.
