Long story short, Everlost (Skinjacker Trilogy)
tldr, half of the bat was "burned away" in sacrifice, and is now a ghost bat she uses to whack her ghost roommate.
There was a character in the final book where a firefighter gets half his body burned away, and now he has a ghost eye and a ghost hand
There is comfort in these words, the lack of beans brings a sense of serenity and calm.
