The Salesman

T

Sometimes, things don't go exactly as one plans. Sometimes one spills their coffee, sometimes they might be late to a meeting, sometimes an entire eight-person exploration ship rams a planet that they didn't notice at significant speeds.

This is one of those times, with the UGS Possibility smashing into the planet of Equus, bringing a veritable cache of impossible wonders... if only its keepers can be convinced to share it. Needless to say, every sizeable power that hears of it wants a piece of the pie, some with far less scrupulous methods than others.

On hiatus until I'm more confident in my skills to do a good first contact story, see blog entry.

Interesting so far, it's been a while since I've read a good sci-fi fic.

Indeed, hope it pleases in that regard! Feel free to let me know if you have any questions that really, really need answering to make the story make sense, especially later on. I have the whole universe planned out, but I'm kind of worried that I'll skip over crucial details in the upcoming chapters and all that by mistake.

Oh i must say that this has my interest. I excitedly look forward to more of this. Good job!

This sounds AWESOME!
MOAR!!!
XD:pinkiehappy:

A good start; I'll be keeping track of this one.

Looks good.

Got nabbit, this is good.

I like this. More please?

This is really good, hope to see for soon. :)

It's back! HORAY!!! :pinkiehappy:
Please dont forget this awesome story. :fluttercry:

I hope these asshole humans get what's coming to them.

Oh nice. Different to see Luna doing the escaping.

So they fix her up in the med bay then end up tazeing her. Once they learn to communicate Luna is going to be upset from being jerked around like this.

A little too soon to call them assholes. Sure, things could've gone better, but let's keep in mind they could've just let her die in a ditch and then picked up her corpse to study it. They had no obligation to patch her up, but they did.

Also, you know, didn't know she was sapient and all that.

We need more plz~

Ok, let's watch where this goes...:derpytongue2:

Nice to see this updating again, and that you managed to carry things forward without causing too much confusion despite such a long hiatus.

Hopefully the next chapter doesn't take the better part of a year though :rainbowwild:

I like this story! I will try to recommend it to bronies in China.🇨🇳:D

Yay! You're back!:pinkiehappy:

A "Human in Equestria" that isn't a Displaced Brony story? I'm in.

Thank you! I definitely appreciate it, although it is an audience that I'd never thought I'd reach.

That's part of it, but I also wanted to get away from the whole one dude in Equestria thing that tends to happen, without going full society level first contact. It is a rather sad thing, you don't get to see multiple people thrown into such a situation playing off one another, you just have one person unilaterally doing things most of the time... it is generally especially egregious in cases where people come to Equestria via space travel, because apparently everyone explores the vastness of the universe solo or whatever, because fuck whatever happens if you get incapacitated for a couple days and die due to not doing whatever you need to get done.

Sir, there is a horse under our ship.

I am aware.

What do?

Are you still working on this story? Would love to see it updated!

I suspect based on the time since the last chapter was posted that this is effectively dead. I'm sorry to say, it may have been a mercy killing.

I was disapointed that you went with the 'Grr! Argghhh! Me am human, me fight!' tyoe scenario. I mean it's only logical that faced with a being that is clearly intelligent, and has displayed unknown powers, you immediately attack them. Let's not observe to learn more about them, or try to establish some sort of contact, no, let's send in the marines!

Because obviously, if there's one creature like this, there are probably going to be more, and considering their demonstrated powers, you want to make sure you come across as a hostile threat to be eliminated, After all, who needs potential enemies when you can make real enemies? Even if you capture or kill this one, if the others are intelligent, they will eventually work out you were responsible for whatever happened to it.

It's a pity, the writing was otherwise quite good. I do like a good first contact story, and this was shaping up to be just that.
