Orbiting Kettle

I've roasted a wealth of exotic things, All torn to ribbons at the hands of kings. Polished copper how I proudly shone, stealin' the fire of the blazing sun.

For the first time after her return, Princess Luna will be among the audience at a play. Expectations are high, yet everypony forgets a little detail.

Theater has changed.

The Princess? Less so.

That gave me a bit of a laugh :rainbowlaugh:. Best of luck with the contest

huh! when i first clicked on the story, i got it in my head that i did it through the top stories list. after having read it... i still thought it was through the top stories list, and spent a minute horribly confused as to why i couldn't find it there any more. and i don't think i can give a better compliment than 'sincerely mistook for one of the current most popular stories'. good job, now actually get on that list so i'm justified, please.

Granny Weatherwax has nothing on Great-great-great-grandma Luna. Thank heavens it wasn't a murder mystery.

Bzzoorrtt!!

The actors stared in horror at the charred and twitching form of Lord Olive Prance, the greatest actor who had ever touched the stage. He was certainly not acting as he spasmed in pain while being embedded half-way into the back scenery wall.

"There!" commanded a voice from the audience. Princess Luna rose from the darkness, a wisp of smoke still floating up from her horn. "Guards, arrest that assassin! He was going to stab Fair Lady Primrose right in the back while everypony was watching his accomplice. THERE!"

That long, noble horn swung to point at an aspiring first-year actor who froze under its most certainly real threat. "T-t-that's not in the script," he stammered.

This was a comedy? The poor guy’s life was ruined because Luna had to be a whiny bitch.

So, comedy/tragedy in both the play and the story?

Thank you.

That depends only in small part from me, but I will try. I'm glad you liked it, though, and your compliments are really appreciated.

Wouldn't be the first time she sees attempted murder on the stage, after a while it becomes a reflex. The story about how her first visit to Titus Equiniqus went are still told by the campfire in acting summer camps.

FimFiction shares Luna's disdain for Tragic-comedy, so I had to use the Drama tag.

This is a really good story! Thanks for sharing it with the community. Now, time to read all of your other tales. Have a fantastic day, and an early Merry Christmas to you!

I'm glad you liked it, and I hope my other stories will entertain you too.

Then thank Celestia for your absence so it could grow up and become something better.

Oof. Phrasing.

I do hope Luna takes the time study what drama has become in the interim. Nuance, my dear. Layers of meaning. Change can be a good thing, if you just keep an open mind. With any luck, she'll at least tolerate it.

In any case, lovely stuff. Thank you for it.

When the thing you love and you were certain you could return to is warped beyond recognition and doesn't make sense anymore, you lash out. She will come to understand it, she will learn, but that path will probably see more victims.

And thank you for the compliments:twilightsmile:

Which at least one commenter above doesn't understand. It's nice to find a writer who can believably put themselves into the mindset of someone whose experiences are so alien.

As Luna was physically depicted, this must have taken place very soon after her return. The actor did not deserve his fate, but he's lucky the "...thank Celestia for your absence..." remark didn't get him flash-fried.

I'm not sure it is as alien as you think. While the extent of the shock and the pain may be well beyond what I can (thank goodness) experience, the basic feeling is, probably, quite similar to what people feel when something they love (like, for example, a franchise) is fundamentally changed. They may exaggerate, they may be blind to the good things that came, but there is a reason for that.

It's funny that it took this story for me to make that connection.

She herself probably didn't have that power at that point, nor the will to do such a thing.

Her guards, on the other hand...

I meant alien as in having a life experience that would find modern theatre odd and disturbing. The resulting bit of psychology is all too familiar!

And you're certainly right about Luna's power level and inclination there. She may have had nothing more to do with the actor's downfall, and definitely wouldn't have had to.
