Dangit, Spark, I was going to write about Cadance being a vampire! If we have one more instance of weirdly specific story idea synchronicity, that will be three and that's enough to call it a pattern.
But anyway, this is a sweet, romantic little fic. I love Shining and Cadance together, and I really like how you took a kind of 'Halloween' subject matter and made it about love and family so it felt appropriate to a winter holiday.

I like the "alicorns are actually changelings" thing, and I thought of a twist a while back I've never seen on it - Twilight is the first alicorn that isn't one. (And Flurry makes it even weirder - would she be a half-changeling?)
Alicorns as vampires is a neat concept, and them taking care of Fluttershy after Bats! would be interesting to see, too. (I'm still disappointed they never did anything with that single fang they showed she still had at the end.)

It's hard to imagine what exactly the show would have done with it. I did a stupid humor short with it once, and Jordanis did a really sweet little bit in one of his 30 minute pony stories that I really liked, Native Soil.

Would love a sequel where Twilight gets help from her friends to deal with this issue.
This is certainly an interesting concept to base a story on, but I have to say this doesn't feel like a complete story to me. It feels more like an excerpt from something larger, because on it's own, there isn't really any conflict. The only hint of a conflict that I get is Shining being slightly concerned for a few moments. Because we already know that Shining isn't particularly bothered, Cadance worrying about his reaction doesn't hold much weight at all.
I imagine that if I was seeing this from her perspective, then her anxieties and conflicting thoughts (which we are only told about after the fact) would actually make this be a pretty tense moment. As it is, though, our main character Shining doesn't give us much reason to be emotionally invested.
(Edit: I realized later that my use of "we" instead of "I" might have made people think I was trying to speak for everyone, so sorry if I gave that impression.)

Oooo, an "All stories require conflict" in the wild.
It might be a longer story or a more intense story, and certainly it would be a different story if it were conflict driven, but it's tagged with "slice of life" for a reason. It's not trying to be anything other than a little world-building idea and a small slice of life moment or two. There's no requirement that it try to be anything else.

You could, I think, also call them 'horswolves', or 'mearhwolves' (or even 'marewolves,' by happy coincidence).
Another nice name would be 'Verequine,' or 'Werequine' but with an accent, and thus the 'v' sound, heh. Maybe Werequin.

No, that still doesn't work. "Werewolf" means "man wolf", so "were equine" would mean "man pony". So that'd be a human who turns into a pony at the full moon, not a pony who turns into a wolf!

That's fair, and I'm not gonna try to tell you how you should be writing. I just thought I ought to explain why I personally wasn't satisfied, even though there's a lot to like about it.
As a side note, I've now become aware of what the literary definition of "slice of life" is, and I can now see exactly why the story being the way it is is warranted. The more you know, I guess.
