Dashite forever!

T

Before May 23rd 2015, Charlotte "Charlie" Williams was a normal 22 year old woman living in Atlanta Georgia. She had a normal job and a boyfriend that she had a steady relationship with.

However one day she woke up in the body of a Unicorn mare and found herself in the otherwise empty city of Atlanta. Not knowing what's going on, she strikes out on her own to try and discover what happened and try and make a new place for herself.

The only complication, she's pregnant.

Set in Starscribe's Ponies After People Universe.

Prequel to The Lost Children.

Well this is interesting, I'll have to keep an eye on it.

Seems interesting, though a high concept, which is going to take a lot of work!
Good first chapter. :)
Thanks!

I love you story and it has me interested in seeing what comes next.  Yet, I hope Charlie is smart enough to take precautions such as closing and locking the community’s main gate.  Am I correct to assume that there is some type of wall around the abandoned, pony settlement?

I hope Charlie starts looking for a place that’s underground.  I suggest that she would know about “Underground Atlanta", which opened in 1969 as a “city beneath the streets” with a marketing slogan of "The Fun in Town is Underground".  This is a shopping and entertainment district in the Five Points neighborhood of downtown Atlanta.

Okay, interesting start so far. I admit, the only times I've been in Atlanta is the downtown Hell of concrete skyscrapers, and even then that's mostly when I've been traveling through the center of town so the smaller suburbs are a bit of a mystery to me. In that way, this'll be like an adventure in another way for me, just seeing another side of Atlanta, the part that proably attracts so many people to it, not the aforementioned concrete hell of traffic jams.

Also, a question on something that interests me.

I was there in those early days back when the Three Founders got together and helped shape the future of our part of America. I was there during the founding of the Settlement, I remember everything that happened after with the Great Schism and the war that followed.

But you don't know my story, maybe its for the best that I was mostly forgotten by the history books of Ponies and Zebras alike. There are a few Zencori that still tell my tale, but there's too much of an argument over exactly how I fit into their historical canon so I get left out of the tale of the Three Founders.

Who am I then you may ask, I'm the pony that started it all. Sure I'm not the one who founded New Atlanta, but if it wasn't for me things would've been a lot different in Georgia, for good and for bad.

So when President Charm asked me to write this story I wasn't really sure what to make of it. There's a lot of history that even Haven hasn't been able to preserve all the way, one such case is the days leading up to the founding of New Atlanta, and its time to change that.

My name is Charlotte Williams, but everypony calls me Charlie, and this is the story of how a waitress from a small town in Georgia changed the future of nations.

So, I assume in the PNP universe, the original one set up by the original author Charlie was a important historical figure and you're just giving her more background?

Ouch... Once again Ruin, you gave what TV Tropes would call the "Player Punch". You gave us a small little community, and made us like the characters in it only through diary entries and then you just kill off all but two of the members of the community. Least Rebecca and her daughter made it out alive from the slaughter...

But by God, I'm terrified for Charlie. She's in a brave new world so to speak, pregnant and in a unicorn's body not knowing how to use her magic just yet and she knows that there very well could be a fire breathing dragon that could swoop down at any moment and kill her and her unborn foal. (Course, I know she survives given the prologue, but still...)

So, a misleading chapter title! Ooh! ...Jokes aside, glad Charlie is no longer facing her troubles alone. Always best to have someone by your side when in stories like this. ...Though how long that said someone will last, is another question entirely.

All in all though, good chapter.

I'm emjoying this well enough. Nothing amazing about it but no real problems with it either.
Although you should have a second look at your chapter names and stay consistent.

I would be searching the city’s police stations for equipment.  For example, I would be looking for police dog body armor, with straps for carrying water bottlers, cameras, and first aid kits.

CaliberDog

8575442 Good idea, though I'm not sure how much is left after this long.

Imagine that a delivery truck with six, police dog body armor sets with extra equipment, along with other police equipment was driving up to the main police station cargo loading dock seconds before the event.  While they are walking up to the station, our two protagonists see the delivery truck appear and then gently bump onto the stations outside wall.  As the truck was moving slowly, the driver is ok, yet asleep.  The driver should be a bit different than a normal pony, similar to how Sassy Saddles is almost a head taller than Rarity, or Big Daddy McColt is shorter than the average pony.

Always remember that you are in charge of events in your story.  There should be unexpected good fortune in-between the conflict triggers and depressing events.

How about our two protagonists building up a new colony at the Hickory Ridge Landfill, which has a one-megawatt photovoltaic solar panel array?

8607114 Well, maybe, but I already have the main cast planned out actually, so I don't know.

Now, that might actually work, there is going to be a settlement founded somewhere in the city.

Merry Christmas Ruin, lovely chapter. Nice change from the usual.

Giving some thought, it surprises me how long there have been zebra tribes in your corner of this universe.
It would only take a handful to start a tribe, but I've gotten the impression that Jewel fell some years ago, and the total population in the area would still have been low, let alone specifically the zebra population. Why would they have formed their own tiny tribe rather than work more directly with other equine survivors?

8630827 That is an excellent question.

First, the Zebra Tribes really formed about 40 years after the Event, which is 100 years before this fic, so it’s been quite awhile.

Second, Georgia has a higher than normal Zebra population when compared to the rest of the planet. Likewise they exhibit unusual traits and traditions either not seen or rarely seen elsewhere.

Third, as implied in The Lost Children, there is an outside influence at work here. The Zebras formed the tribes as a result of this influence, and it may reflect Zebra society in Equestria or be something else.

I’d be attempting to find more returnees, by searching MARTA's Five Points Station. Here is a link to Atlanta’s busiest transit, bus and train station.

Five-Points - MARTA

Another place to find returnees is the Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

“Yeah…” I said and looked down at my hooves in thought. “I’m scared really… more scared than I’ve ever been in my life. We’re stuck in this strange new world together and there could be any number of threats at any time. And that’s not just the big stuff, what about diseases? Can we get equine diseases or just human ones? Did diseases mutate over the past 150 years so we’re not able to protect ourselves from them?”

Oh, Charlie... Thanks for reminding me to give you your daily hugs. (Not even gonna comment on the meta joke here in this chapter.)

Oh, it was the first chapter in over a year!

Dose love this story so far!:yay:

If I was in this situation, I would write down a list of things needed for a more secure home. If your two protagonists have not defined what they are looking for, how will they know when they find it?

Moreover, why don’t they attempt to find a library to find book on Stone and Iron Age tools and weapons? They could even attempt to make horse barding or body armor for war horses. When I dream, I dream big!

I can imagine that a colony the size of Jewel would have a library. This library would have books for returnees and those born as ponies describing how to use their natural abilities as well as the history of Jewel and surrounding colonies.

It would also have a Chamber of Commerce business directory describing family businesses and individual artisans. For example, if an Earth pony wanted to buy a plow, the directory would have the name and address of a blacksmith that makes farm tools.

I suppose that any library Jewel had was either destroyed by the dragon, or someone has moved it to another location. Finding books with useful information would make a good quest for our brave protagonists.

9517320 Well its not really that big, but a library does make sense.

Very interesting read so far, I can't wait for more updates.
