While reading a book late into the night, Fluttershy is interrupted by a loud series of noises outside of her cottage.
Upon her investigation, the timid mare stumbles across a drunk Rainbow Dash in a sad state of mind. When she opens up her home to her life-long friend, it is evident that there is something that Rainbow wants to tell her.
However, when she is told what is on the pegasus's mind, she is unsure how to react.

I'm interested to see where this is going! But I need to point out something.
Try to avoid descriptions like these and just describe them by their name. Something to know for the future.

Darn it. I was really hoping for a romantic ending. Platonic endings like that really bum me out.
...They're not sisters you know. Even if they were, that interaction made no sense. And there's no explanation as to how they are.
The story felt like it was going well too, but that ending completely ruins it. It's never been established that they were sisters, so for Fluttershy to reveal that at the end there, it would be very shocking news. But it's mentioned very casually, like we're supposed to know that already.
In the end, it feels like Fluttershy just outright lied, and Rainbow just takes it.

Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash are obviously not blood-related. It was simply meant to imply that she considers Rainbow her sister.

Looks like you changed that. Earlier all it had was Fluttershy saying, "You're my sister.", and ending the conversation there. That didn't sound like a metaphor to me. It sounded like a serious response, rather than a symbolic one.
But if that's what you say it is, then okay. I'm not against the sister thought. It's just the way it sounded earlier made it sound serious than symbolic.

It should have been clear what I was hinting at. When you look at them in the show and observe their relationship, which started out as the earliest friendship that began at Junior Flight Camp, it becomes very apparent that the pair act like sisters. Quite a lot of people who watch the show actually consider them to be like sisters. That's basically what I was trying to get across.
Plus, the response was serious. I view their relationship as sisterly, so rather than go for that classic kissing scene, I tried out something different.
I honestly don't know how you thought I was saying they were siblings. We've seen both of their parents, so that one was plainly obvious. To be honest, you were meant to know that already. If you didn't know, well, I think you haven't been paying much attention to their relationship in the show. I mean, just about everyone who's ever watched it knows how close they are.
Going on that concept, it's no surprise that some see them as an easy target for shipping. Bear in mind, shipping relationships isn't always about the one character getting together with the other after confessing their love to them. It can be about their relationship and/or status with each other.
Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy are clearly the most popular shipping couple out there due to the fact that they were the first couple out of the Mane Six to meet and become best and close friends.
That was the whole idea of what I was getting across.
(It's also pretty frustrating that it went sailing rather than seen for what it actually means.)

Can you expect everyone to have the exact same visions as you from what the show shows? I've seen some people making very ridiculous claims about their relationship and even writing fanfics about it. One of them, I'm not kidding, makes the claim that Rainbow Dash pushed Fluttershy off on purpose during that fillyhood encounter. I don't believe that for a second, but I wouldn't be surprised that others would, and push that even further.
When I saw the line, "You're my sister.", I thought she was being serious because, I have no idea how you view their relationship. And I didn't get it from the story either that shows she was being symbolic. I could definitely go on a huge rant describing why I think Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy are the closest of friends out of any of the Mane Six pairings, but not everyone will agree with me, and even some people who write a story shipping them together won't agree.
I can't expect my visions of their relationship to be similar to what everyone else visions from the show itself. (And yes, I have seen their parents. But I know a few people who don't keep up with the show, some of them writers.)

I'm... Surprisingly not mad at this. Given my name, that strikes me at least as odd. Either way, I like this. I'm interested in seeing it continued. It probably won't be, but if it is, I'd read it. Wonder if Flutter-Butter would change her tune somewhere down the line. Oh well, my ramblings aside, well done on writing a FlutterDash ending in rejection that I don't inherently hate. This was a touch bittersweet but still cute. It was nice to see Fluttershy comfort Rainbow, and Rainbow provide first aid to Fluttershy was a nice touch as well.
