This story is a sequel to A Pony Displaced: Another Path

Many years ago, Magic Barrier lost countless ponies that he held dear to Sombra's madness and his dark powers. Some years later, he lost the few ponies he still had to hold dear when Princess Luna fell to her inner darkness, Nightmare Moon and was banished for one-thousand years... taking him with her.

Now, a thousand years later, Nightmare Moon has been defeated and Barrier returned to Equestria a thousand years out of place. To top that off, Sombra was eventually defeated as well and with his defeat returned both the Crystal Empire and some of the most important ponies in Barrier's life. Ponies that Barrier had long since written off as lost.

Now, with their Captain guiding them, the recently returned group has to try and find their place in the madness that is modern Equestria, overcome what was lost, and hopefully find a new way that will help cement to them that they're not as displaced as they seem.

I imagine some of you have waited long and hard for this sequel to release. There are some of you who may have been there since the beginning of my stint as a fanfiction author, where I promised -and failed- to deliver a sequel to my first story, A Pony Displaced.

I am saddened to say that I have failed you once again with this sequel... but someone has risen to pick up after me, for the sake of those waiting for this sequel, and my own.

Those of you who follow my blog already know this, but Alticron, my co-writer/editor/proofreader/idea wall/friend is going to try and see the story to completion, after I suffered another writing burnout due in part to personal problems.

As I stated in my blog, I have the utmost faith in him and his abilities to see this story through to the end, and hope you will all enjoy his writing as much as I do.

As always, I cannot state how thankful I -and Alticron- are to Chaos Phantasm, DE_K,ChasingResonance and CanadianPony for being the editors, proofreaders, and idea-walls who made this story what it is.

o now this is starting out really good and looking super good at the same time

The wait has been indeed long.

8341006

Hat Trick was the first one up, taking a moment to yawn widely before speaking. “Tis good to hear those words. I feel as if we’ve been on this contraption for over ten months.”

Indeed.

8341016
Hopefully we'll get to see Barrier's comrades grow and develop as characters such as them overcoming their fears and bias.

8341250
One thing I'd really like to see is Iron overcoming his hatred of griffins, especially since there are now ones who are kind and cheerful like the young and adorable Gabby instead of the violent ones he fought.

With Sombra dead and his cadets and old friends in toe, Magic Barrier and company try to adapt to the modern world, heading forward to try and make Vanhoover their new home.

I think you meant to say they were in tow. Toe is a body part. Tow is when something is pulled along behind something. Like a tow truck would have a car in tow behind it, for example.

Don't feel too bad about the "true" sequel to the original APD story. The majority of readers can tell that the passion to make the story is still there, but other projects took priority, or real life happened.

If and when that particular sequel gets made, all that I ask is that you [Sober], Al, Wing, Chaos, and Company, don't feel the need to rush it out. To paraphrase Shigeru Miyamoto, "A delayed project has the potential to get better. A rushed project, can end up bad forever."

... Is Hat Trick's cutie mark a yugioh card? You know the one with the magical hats

Points. Gold star comment of the day. :3

Not bad if I do say so myself. I'm looking forward to working on the other chapters. I'm working hard folks, don't worry. I'll keep Homeward on its hooves. :ajsmug: :raritywink:

Yay:pinkiehappy: the wait is over. Must celebrate!!:pinkiehappy:

Oh boy! Yay!! It was a good beginning. I will keep my eye on this.

Yay! More Displaced goodness!

It is interesting what they were saying, that this is the peace they fought for. Given the nature of the times they once called home, they likely never would have seen such a sight. Its going to take a lot of work to readust to the idea there is little to no conflict in the modern era. At least they have each other to adjust where Barrier was alone.

At least they aren't headed to Pie's Pizzeria. I don't think they could handle the level of crazy that is Jasper Pie.

You do not know of Jasper Pie or his pizzeria? Then I direct you to the following audiomedia files:

Well, looks like Barrier, Daring, and their companions are going to be staying in Vanhoover for a long while.

Also Dark Roast reminds me of that waiter from Al's Diner of Reboot.

8383821
And that's where I stole got the inspiration for the idea of Alfredo the chef being near deaf.

8383825
I also remember, in that same Reboot episode, Bob asking a sprite "why is Six scared of Seven?" The hilarious response was: "'Cus Seven ate Nine!"

Who's Midnight Oil? After seeing the image of her I looked back through the chapter three times and didn't see any mention of her. Was she the pony that owed Daring the favor?

8396346
She was the mare refilling the street lights with oil that Verdant pointed out.

“How do they light these buildings?” Verdant asked. “Clearly the streetlights use oil.” He pointed to a violet mare with a faded pink mane and tail filling said lights. “But surely tis not so for all of these buildings.”

Though I will slightly revise this to point out she's a pegasus.

Looks like we've got ourselves a ship tease between Iron Forge and Snow Sweeper.

I'm certain that Drumstick had an interesting childhood... :trixieshiftright:

Also, who else would like to see them actually form a hockey team?

8424517
I'll gladly reveal Drumstick's backstory if anyone's interested. Just give me a shout and it will be told.

Also, I would probably love to see and pay for a pic of them in hockey outfits if it weren't for the facts that I'm low on cash and looking for ideas and an artist to help make the title card. Still, I'm also still looking for another editor/pre-reader if anyone wants it.

Iron Forge and Snow Sweeper a interesting paring.
this is a vary good chapter i love it.

You know what I like most about this series? You get pictures of the ponies and their cutie marks. Really helps wit the visual aspect of all the world building going on.

It will take a while for Barrier's comrades to learn how to speak in modern English.

What no Power Ponies? I image the pony equivalent of Captain America would appeal to old school guard..

8466289
This is actually somewhat inspired by my last few attempts to find comics in convenience stores. They never had anything one would call mainstream, but they would have more obscure titles.

FOALTROOOON! (Couldn't resist!) :twilightsheepish:

8466740
Form hooves and legs... And hooves and legs again

Lol.

And I'll form the head!...I think we missed a body.

8468473
Form hooves and legs! Form wings and torso! And I'll form the head!

Caballeron already knows where Daring Do lives and it wasn't too hard for Twilight to find her home when she was looking for A.K. Yearling. The cadets will have a hard time adjusting to all the changes and they haven't even met the therapist yet.

“Apparently.” Barrier shook his head. “Strange. She’s never been quite that moody before. Guess she really likes those wings. Mr. Cut, can I get an order of boneless wings to go, if you have them?”

Never this moody before, huh? Either I'm reading too much into things, or things are going to get very interesting, very soon.

Daring's comment about teaching is obviously a reference to Indiana Jones. I wonder how much pay Fleetfeather and the cadets will actually receive since it will be a lot of expenses at once for the treasury.

8510222
Spoiler alert: Daring really likes boneless wings. Not many places in Equestria sell them.

8510222
Daring Do and the strange cravings

Now when you say Hunt did you mean job hunt by any chance?

Also, this may sound strange, but I find myself imagining Barrier's voice sounding like Germany from Hetalia Axis Powers without the German accent. It feels that way on account that both characters have strict military backgrounds and I've been watching lots of Hetalia Axis Powers recently.

8510235
A herbivore eating meat? That's most unheard of for me.

8510260
It does occasionally happen with horses, usually with small birds. Also, the cadets, Barrier and Fleet were all trained to eat meat as part of their survival skills.

Also, Sober and I have said we picture Barrier having a voice like Nicholas Courtney, the actor who played The Brigadier on Doctor Who. Not to be confused with Nicholas Briggs, who voices the Daleks.

8510258
Well I will say the next chapter is called "The Hunt". As for what they're hunting... I'm such a tease. :P

Interesting name Crispy Wings.. Alot of stories have Pegasi at least eating fish and a little meat

8510278
Well, his parents do specialise at cooking meat dishes, and are named Clean Cut and Drumstick. If you want, I can tell you his parents backstories.
