When Cloudsdale's water supply is contaminated by industrial runoff, chlorine seems like the natural choice for disinfection. Celestia sends four cars of it to the area, shipping via the Equestrian Railway. Now, chlorine is highly toxic, and, in nature, takes the form of a gas. And when the line breaks down at the one station between the two cities, you have a recipe for disaster.

Meanwhile, Twilight Sparkle is preparing for a busy day of experiments. She's ready to log everything in her daily journal. But the sound of screeching metal interrupts her work, and she and all her friends head out to see the commotion.

Five months later, a decon team from Canterlot discovers Twilight's journal. Adding it to other documents they've recovered, they may be able to piece together just what happened during the Ponyville Quarantine.

"I've found from past experiences that the tighter you plan, the more likely you are to run into something unpredictable."
-MacGyver

This story will be told in the form of various documents (mainly Twilight's journal).

Just gonna jump in here and say something real quick.

Cloudsdale and trains do not mix. Trains cannot fly :V. This is completely based on the description, so go ahead and retort on this.

Ponyville Quarantine though, you make it sound like a zombie outbreak...chlorine gas IS very toxic, yes, and can kill you very quickly. I'll...I'll give it a look later on, see what I think. Feel free to bug me about reading it if you don't see a proper comment on the story within the next few days, life's pretty hectic right now.

908474 Yeah, what I pictured was that there's a station right below Cloudsdale, and anything that needs to go up to Cloudsdale is carried by pegasi or other forms of aerial transit. But because it would also serve smaller communities around Cloudsdale, being on the ground allows earth ponies and unicorns access to the station. I would've explained this out, but it would be hard to fit in, based on the format of my story.

I'm a sucker for "journal" style stories. I'll hang around and see where this goes. We are kinda railroaded (PUN!) with the plot, but that is the appeal to this style of story.

Is this going to be a true crossover, or is the Umbrella Corporation a red herring? Of course you're not gonna answer that, so I guess I'll have to keep reading. :pinkiehappy:

Depending how far you take that in the coming chapters, you may want to slap the crossover tag on it.

908702 Truth be told, I just wanted to having something bookending the chlorine tanks of the manifest, so I figured that since it really wouldn't affect the rest of the story, I could toss in a Resident Evil reference for kicks. I've actually never played the games, I only know them from MvC3. Sorry if I got your hopes up.:twilightsheepish:

Honestly that makes me more excited to see where you go. Before it was going to end in zombies. Now it can go ANYWHERE!

Hmm. Interesting. I don't think I'll favourite it just yet, but I'm certainly interested to see where this goes.
