Well, that was clever of Dash. Nothing like beating up the legendary good gal Daring Do in public to cement the viewpoint that the new regime is evil. The Rebellion has its first martyr, hopefully not literally.
Nice writing on showing what's wrong with her too. Whatever the confrontation with Con Mayne did to the Element Bearers, the RD Daring confronted is missing her empathy, the ability to relate to and understand other ponies on an emotional level. Speculation in spoiler space: What's missing from the Bearers, their souls maybe?, seem to still be trapped in a space accessible through mirrors and are trying to get back when they look into them, judging by Twilight's interaction with Celestia and subsequent ban.
I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes.
This story needs more up votes. I still think we need more introspection into what Twilight's friends are thinking though... I thought that would happen with the Rainbow Dash chapter, but that was an outside view of Rainbow Dash.
Celestia, you only cared about them because they were useful to you. Nothing more, nothing less.

Maybe, but that is very taxing to write, depends what the author wants to do really.. not to mention it would add a LOT more POV characters which always brings its own problems. Besides, to me their motives seem more or less obvious, they are trying to build perfect utopia based on their ideals of what is right.

Twilight chose those forms for them when she took their Alicorn powers, so that they couldn't oppose her so easily. With Celestia and Luna being pegasi, they can't use their (still) more powerful unicorn magic anymore. At least if I remember correctly from the first chapter.

There are beliefs that mirrors have a connection to the soul...there's a reason "Empress" Twilight banned them from the castle. Maybe it's like that mirror from Equestria Girls, except instead of flat-out imprisoning something, it only takes the soul, or certain parts of who you are.
At the very least, this is definitely some sort of manipulative magic at play, the kind of stuff that I imagine Discord would have done with the Elements were Friendship is Magic not a kids show, or at least was oriented towards teenagers and had that as an excuse for more mature themes. Making ponies opposites of themselves is one thing, but twisting their true selves to where they could actually be convinced that they are doing the right thing, making it even worse for those who do recover seeing the very things they stood for be corrupted so, will forever haunt a person. It's like Luna recovering from being Nightmare Moon, probably worse.
